POSTED 7/29/07 EMAIL FROM TJ AT HIGHLAND RIM SPEEDWAY WITH A NEWS UPDATE!

Hey Odell it is Tj from the Rim will you please post this for me Thanks: The Staff of Highland Rim Speedway is dedicating the night of August 4th 2007 to the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Also that night the Late Models will run 100 laps. Highland Rim Speedway will be accepting donations for the Hospital. We have already spoken to several drivers and officials and they will be donating their money for that night to this good cause. For you that don't know it Highland Rim's clown (CHECKERS) donates every penny he makes from the track to the hospital. Good Job Checkers!!! Lets make this a positive night and help out the Children and the medical advances that need to happen for the Hospital. The competition director (TJ) at the speedway had this to say, " I have had a experience with a child in the Children's Hospital for almost a month after he was born. The people and the Technology of the Hospital were awesome. If it was not for them my son might not of been here in my arms. My son had to have open heart surgery. These nurses and doctors are the best in the whole wide world and will not leave until the job is done. If any of you have ever experienced this you know what I am talking about. It is cool to walk into the hospital and see all of the companies that donate there money. There are a lot of families that cannot afford these high bills ,but these children we are talking about could possibly be the future of this track. I Challenge everyone to donate, I know I will that night." If you want to donate to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital on race night. Stop by the Office at the track or Call them at 643-8725. You can even email Tj at riminspector@yahoo.com

THIS IS A EMAIL FROM BOBBIE & JOEY STANCIL Joey and I have talked about it and we are going to cancel this Monday night due to fair. Let everyone know that we will have both races and figure 8 from fair next Monday night. Thanks Bobbie

POSTED 7/21/07 RICKY DICKENS #28 GETS A RAW DEAL AT BEECH BEND

Ricky told me that Beech Bend officials told him that he had to remove his wings by next Friday. First let me say I have no money or no ties to this car. But I think that Beech Bend should look at this decision and change their minds. This car had wings when Jerry Newkirk #10 from Louisville owned and drove the car and he was allowed to race it, by the way he didn't wins as many races as Ricky has, so is it wings or driver? And Ricky has been allowed to race them wings over half the 2007 season with only nine races left you tell him to remove them? Change the rules in the middle of the season? I know this post may not help get them wings left on the car, but I hope maybe it will. Please look at my poll question and vote. Ricky and all the Dickens have raced the eight for years and is this anyway to treat faithful drivers. PLEASE DALLAS & BEECH BEND LET THE WINGS STAY THIS YEAR.

POSTED 7/21/07 PRESTON WHITE #3 HAS GOOD SHOWING!

Preston White #3 Baby Grand Jr Pro Class had his win taken away last week after beating #29 Mary Daniels. The riv limiter was to be set at 8500 and Preston's was at 9000. The crew for White said it was a over site and not done on purpose. But this week Preston redeems his self with a very impressive second place finish and gaining points on points leader #29 Mary Daniels who must have had trouble and finished last.

POSTED 7/21/07 LATE MODEL CLASS WAS ROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT

Tommy Climer #05 of Murfreesboro, TN. is pictured here on the scales after the late model race in which Tommy finished 3rd. It was a wild night. You can see in post earlier on this site of winner Bo Miller with his car torn up. Tommy is the son of Late Model great James Climer who drove the famous #55. Tommy has made a name for his self as a great driver too.

POSTED 7/21/07 DANIEL YOUNG HAS MORE BAD LUCK!

Daniel, in my opinion is one of the most improved driver at Beech Bend. Daniel has run in second place time and time again, but seems to also have something go bad. Daniel and his #9 chevy was hauling the mail Friday night and was going to the front putting the heat on #44 Tony Rothe when with just one lap left the #10 Joey Stancil and another get together and Joey Spins leaving nowhere for Daniel to go and he hits Joey pretty much at speed. Daniel keep your head up buddy a win is just around the corner.

POSTED 7/21/07 BEECH BEND RACEWAY'S FRONT RUNNER FIGURE-8 CAR'S HAVE A BAD WRECK!

Folks I have been involved in stock car racing for years, my Dad drove some back in the 60's at Beech Bend and My wife and I have been at Beech Bend for years as the track photographer for Beech Bend and I have raced Front Runners,Bombers, Street Stock, Modified Street, Sportsman and Figure-8 but I have never seen a stock car wreck this bad. The blue and red car is the #17 of Front Runner Figure-8 points leader Tony Peak. The White car is that of #109 Rick Simpson of Portland, TN. The word in the pits was that Rick had said Tony spun him out during the Front Runner race (Round, not the eight) and that he (Rick) was going to finish it in the figure-8 race. So as the race was being ran Rick slowed and then when Tony was going through the X (crossing) toward turn one of the eight (Turn four of circle track) Rick was in turn two of the eight and you could hear the #109 of Rick floor the gas pedal and sure enough they hit in the X. Rick did the hitting with the front end of his car which has all the weight with the motor, transmission and all being in the front end of a front wheel drive car. Rick hit Tony in the passenger side about the door toward the rear and the blow actually cut Tony's car into. The rear of Tony's car went several yards toward turn three of the eight and toward the wall on the side of the fans in the stand. The half Tony was sitting in was close to the X and Tony was still in it, while Rick's car went toward the flag stand. Tony never moved inside the car as far as we could see. We later talked to the EMT's and was told he was knocked out for a while. They (the track crew) had to use two trucks (wrecker) to get Tony's car off the track. Tony did have some bruising on his neck and shoulder but said he was OK. Both Tony and Rick had a few words to each other in the pits and both said they would be back next Friday. I for one think the man up stairs was watching over Tony this night. I know that some of you out there have some harsh words for posting but remember keep it nice. I will delete anything I feel shouldn't be posted. Good luck Tony!

POSTED 7/21/07 MORE PHOTO'S OF TONY PEAK WRECK

In these shots you can see that Tony got hit in the passenger side rear. Can you believe he walked away? Wow!!!!

POSTED 7/21/07 MORE PICTURES OF THE #17 TONY PEAK WRECK

POSTED 7/14/07 FIGURE-8 DRIVER WAYNE GREEN SR. WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME!

Early in the figure-8 race Mike Mason spins out in the middle of turns three and four with several cars barrelling in on Mike and one was Wayne Green Sr. with no place to go. Just simply bad luck for Wayne!

POSTED 7/14/07 MIKE MASON AND DENNIS "ZOOMIE" OLIVER FIGHT WITH THIER CAR'S IN THE FUGURE-8

I was told before the race that Mike was saying all week that come Friday night he was going to take Dennis "Zoomie" Oliver out. That was hear say and don't know it to be true but fron what happen it must have been the gospel. Late in the figure-8 race Mike goes hard into turn one of the eight and runs over the #34 Dennis "Zoomie" Oliver. Then Zoomie fires the car back up and goes fast and hard into turn three of the eight and smashes Mike Mason #M1 into the outside wall. Both cars are torn up bad, but Mike fires his up and drives off the track. Zoomie's car was towed off. So is this over? Will mike be back next Friday? Will Zoomie be back next Friday? PICTURED: TOP PHOTO IS MIKE MASON'S #M1 BOTTOM PHOTO IS DENNIS "ZOOMIE" OLIVER DRIVER OF THE #34 AND ERIC "BUBBIO" JOHNSON IS THE CAR OWNER OF THE #34.

POSTED 7/14/07 BILLY GRIDER WRECKS HIS NEW CAR IN THE SPORTSMAN RACE

First let me say, Billy I hate that you wrecked your car. Billy Grider #30 sportsman car was on the track Friday night for the second race in that new car. Billy qualified second fastest at a 17:13, that is great for only the second night out. But then he wrecked in the back straight away. I was in this race and did not see what happen. I was told that Billy and William Johnson #6 raced really hard with Willie bumping Billy in some turns (I was told that Willie was not too rough but only racing bumps) then Willie got under Billy coming off turn two and then Billy got in the gas hard and his car broke lose and turn in to Willie and then it shot into the wall. Billy laughed and told me after the race that he just ran out of talent, I don't believe that, I think he just had too big of a shoe! (Ha-Ha) and a super fast car. As most of you know I think the world of Billy Grider and hate it for him, also I am a friend to William "Willie" Johnson and in no way saying that he was at fault. If anyone has more to add to this story please post. I may not have it all right. Good Luck Billy if you need any help or anything call me.

POSTED 7/14/07 PRESTON WHITE WINS AND THEN IT WAS ON AT THE TECH SHED

After the Baby Grand Jr Pro class there were a difference of opinions at the tech shed. David Daniels owner of the #19 car and Mary Daniels father was really voicing his opinion loudly at Bobby White about something on the car of Preston White #3 the winner of the feature race. I do not know what David was mad about, but did see Bobby teching the cars and looking under the firewall of each car and before Bobby looked under Preston's car he ask David to look as he did so he would know Bobby didn't change anything. As they looked David jumped up and said rather loudly, see it's wrong, it's 9000 (I think that is what he said) and then it just kept on with words being passed back and forth. Also Marty White was upset as well (Marty is Preston's uncle). Then there was a small altercation between Bobby and David. I don't know really what happen but it appeared that David was saying that Preston had more horse power than his daughter. I will say this it looked to me like Preston just out drove Mary in that race and I am not taking sides but Preston drove a great race and really in my opinion won it in the turns and that isn't anything to do with horse power, it is handling. Remember this is only my opinion and from my spot in the stands may differ from yours. Please respond by making your comments.

POSTED 7/14/07 BO MILLER WINS AGAIN!

Bo Miller wins again! I am hearing a lot of negative comments about Bo Miller both on my site and at the track. Some think Bo is cheating with some sort of traction device. And lots of people have made comments about Bo being very cocky and having a very bad personality. Bo got his win last night (7/13/07) after #12 Sammy Sanders led twenty plus laps. Bo bumped Sammy in some of the turns and then with just a few laps left he hit the rear of #12 in the exit of turn #4 and got Sammy side ways, up and out of the groove and then made the pass. Do you the fan think this was a good racing move or is Bo just a race track bully? And should the track officials do something to any car that stinks up the show, like add weight until the show is fun to watch? No one in the stands wants to watch the same car win time and time again. I listened to the crowd last night and when Bo pulled into victory lane and got out, I heard NO clapping of hands for him. Does this mean everyone hates Bo? No, but it is no fun see him win every race. It is kinda like wrestling, it seems scripted. Plus look at the car count, no Louisville cars, why? Maybe because you can't win at Beech Bend?

POSTED 7/4/07 THANKS TO B & R RACERS SUPPLY

I have wrote about many drivers and tracks, but I would like to blog about two people that very rarely get credit for helping us racers. This story is about B&R Racers Supply. The two men behind B&R are Brad Spinks and Rick Falcone. I have known these two guys for over twenty years. Brad drove a stock car and did a fine job back in the days. Brad is married to Becky (Phelps). They have one son, Matthew Spinks. Matt is a crew man on the number #30 sportsman car of Grider Racing. Brad works for the Bowling Green City School System where he is in management. Rick is married to Barbara (Phelps). They have one son, Scott. Scott is married to Crystal and they have a daughter, Makayla. Scott also helps on the sportsman car of Phillip Akin #44. Rick manages Toohey's Auto Parts. Brad and Rick started selling parts soon after White Bros. Oval Track Supply sold out. Some of you reading this may say that they don't need any thanks because they make money off us drivers. Duh! Auto Zone, Toohey's, Advance, O'Reilly's and catalog mail orders don't? These guys are at the track every single race. It is a job for them and I know they get tired. I for one have broken a part and didn't have to run to town. I only walked across the pits to buy a screw, bolt, fluids and etc... Plus they give me advise on what I need for my car. Thank you guys and your families for supporting stock car racing. Racers please leave your comments for Brad and Rick along with your name and car number. Again, Thanks, Odell Turner, Sportsman Car #99

POSTED 7/4/07 MIKE MASON AND DENNIS "ZOOMIE" OLIVER HIT IN THE FIGURE-8!

The figure-8 race was not that wild for most fans last night. But if you watched close you would have seen a couple of cars bump into each other. I did not see everything that a source told me that happened. I did see Dennis "Zoomie" Oliver #34 get into #M1 Mike Mason. Mike got lose and Zoomie took over second from mike. I don't know if Mike had hit Zoomie before to cause Zoomie to retaliate. I don't think Zoomie did it on purpose unless Mike did something first. But I do not know. Maybe the two drivers will post on here what they know happened. I know that there was some action in the pits after the race. Lots of words flying and a few fist. Remember if you post comments DO NOT USE FOUR LETTER WORDS AND KEEP IT CLEAN! I will delete anything I think is not proper.

POSTED 7/4/07 THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

I will be fifty years old this year, have raced for several years off and on. I learned two things last night at the races. First, let me say I don't know much about setting up or building a stock car. I don't know how to build an engine. I do know how to do a lot of little things to a car. One thing is for sure, I love driving a stock car as much as anyone. I have a lot of friends and family that has help me, and I appreciate that very much. This season I have to thank my sponsor's for their help. I have had many of you drivers that have said I should be doing good with all them sponsor's but honestly the money I got from sponsor's this year was good but when it comes to racing in the sportsman class and spending thousand's of dollars I like many of you am short handed. I worked so hard to get my new car out at the track as many of you fellow racer's have also done. All the little things that kept going wrong as you guys know about. The season started April 6, and I was not ready so I used my back up car. Then on July 2, I had the new car ready to go to the track to test only to find out my car was too wide to fit on the trailer. The next day I bought another trailer and then got home and get ready to back up the the garage to load the car and my van will not start. I finally get to the track for the July 3rd race with no practice and take the new car out to qualify and make about seven laps, not getting up to speed but running really good. I was so happy with the handle of the car and knew I had more gas peddle left. On the seven lap, I go off in turn three and the engine sounds like a hand grenade going off. Yes, my new engine just broke. So here is the two things I learned last night. I had that sick feeling that you fellow drivers get when you blow and it was bad. I was so sick. But the thing I was most proud to have learned was that after I blew up and loaded my car up there were guys over at the trailer to help push it on and many, many fellow racers and fans came up to me and said they hated it for me and offered to help in any way. This is not a feel sorry for Odell post, I just wanted to share something I learned. From now on I hate to see anyone blow or wreck their car. Been there done that. And last, with all the smart remarks that people put on this site I can still be proud to be a racer at Beech Bend Raceway. Last night you drivers and fans made me realize that we are a small racing family. Thanks to you all for your support.

POSTED 7/4/07 LOCAL DRIVER MAKES A GOOD SHOW IN OPEN WHEEL MODIFIED

I race with Brian Cherry in the Sportsman class each week and it is hard to pull for him with him winning a lot and I am having a hard time just keeping up. But as a writer on this blog and after blowing my engine Tuesday night I became a fan in the stand. Saying that brings me to this story. I would like to say personally to Brain, good job! You drove the wheels off that Open Wheel Modified. I for one was pulling for you to win it. Even with the spin, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Again, good job Brian!
