POSTED 4-28-10 HARD CHARGER AWARD FOR RACES 4-23-10
My choice for the "HARD CHARGER AWARD" this week goes to driver of the Front Runner Class. Josh Wyatt #1 with an impressive second place finish. Josh has had some good runs at Beech Bend Raceway. He won at KMS awhile back. I don't think Josh has had a win a BBR. On Friday night I watched Josh drive his line and hold off a really good car of Jeff Hogan #41. Josh is another young driver at Beech Bend Raceway Park with alot to come on down the road. Great job Josh! And congratulations!
I don't give out other awards, but this week, I am adding two more awards. First, I am giving the "GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD". As most of you know, I stand on the wall and shoot photos all night. As I was shooting Friday night, I saw something that most of you may not have seen. During the front runner race, as the cars were going down the front stretch, the lead cars were coming upon a car to lap him. As they got near turn one, this lap car drifts up torward the wall and throws his hand out the driver side window to motion the lead cars around him. I have driven stockcars and came upon a lap car not knowing which way he was going. This caused me to lose the lead or the race. So my "GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD" goes to #25 David Alessio. Great driver and great sportsmanship. Congratulations to David!
The third award is "HARD LUCK AWARD". This award goes to a driver that could have and maybe should gotten the HARD CHARGER AWARD. He drove the best race I have seen him drive in sometime. I think he could or may have won the race. This award goes to Sportsman driver, Daymond Long, driver of the #28 Budweiser car. I was confused as to why Daymond didn't have the lead after the caution came out. After talking to the officials, I understood the call. However, it is a call I don't like, but it is fair for everyone. With the transponders on the car, it counts each lap at the finish line in front of the flag stand. And on a caution we go back to the last lap. Phillip Akin #44 never really passed Daymond as a complete pass. As they crossed the line, #44 was six inches (a guess) in front of #28. In turn two, Phillip got up high and #6 William Johnson, passed #44. But the flag came out and as I said earlier we go back to the last completed lap. The transponder showed #44 ahead of #28 followed by #6. So just inches put Phillip in the lead on the restart. To me this is almost like the lucky dog in NASCAR. I am friends with Phillip and in no way am I saying that Phillip didn't deserve the race, it's the rules. Just a very bad break for Daymond. Better luck next race Daymond!

If you came to the swap meet then you got to see the drags for your $5.00 ticket into the swap meet. Even if you didn't make the swap meet and came to the drags, you got a good show. Beech Bend Raceway had lots of cars, trucks and bikes. About is a couple of photos from the Saturday night drags.
POSTED 4-18-10 SWAP MEET AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY
The swap meet at Beech Bend Raceway Park on Saturday 4-17-10 was a lot of fun. The top photo shows Bobby White (second to the right) at his table trying to sell something. Margaret and I also had a spot set up and I sold 13 bicycles and one scooter. The photo on the bottom shows Margaret riding Angie Dickens (rear) on my two seat bicycle. The crowd was small and not a lot of vendors. But I have a great day of selling and talked to Bobby and he had a couple good sales.

I would like to thank C & P Racing for their hospitality to us (Odell & Margaret) PBO Media Productions. It was hot and we were trying to get some really good shoots of the Frank Kimmel and ARCA races. C & P Racing let us use their gazebo for shade. They gave us drinks and were very kind. For me, this is what racing is all about. Sure, I love to see the cars go fast and compete, but the friendship is by far the best thing about the family of racing. Thanks to Jerry, Linda, Robert and Amanda Cohron, Jay, Joann and David Parrish, Ricky Jones of C & P Racing. Oh yeah, Doodle too!

Bowling Green's Richard "Doodle" Dicken ran the IOFS last year with his old faithful the stock appearing "ROCKET". Doodle won the 2009 Stock Rookie of the Year. He received a outlaw chassis for winning the Rookie of the Year. Now in 2010 he is running for the Outlaw class Rookie of the Year. Saturday night in Anderson, Indiana Doodle took a strong stand toward that title of Rookie of the Year with a fourth place finish. Doodle has had great help from Bowling Green folks like Billy Williams which goes with him and acts as his crew chief. C & P Racing, Jerry Cohron has help Doodle out. I know I may be over looking many of you. And I know Doodle and Angie would thank you all for your support. From this site and all the race fans in Bowling Green, I know I can say we wish you the best in 2010. Have fun and be safe! Congratulations Doodle.
POSTED 4-12-10 FRANK KIMMEL 50 AT SALEM SPEEDWAY
The Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals 50 at Salem Speedway is in books. It was a beautiful day at Salem, Indiana on Sunday, April 11. Todd Kempf #19 of Huntingburg, IN. takes the win. Bowling Green driver Jay Parrish #79 of C & P Racing started mid pack and finished somewhere around 12th. The results have not been released as of this posting. I will update the results as soon as they come in.
More on local driver Jay Parrish. Jay was in the qualifying race on Saturday and lead some of that race until his car had some handling problems. On Sunday in the Frank Kimmel 50 lap race Jay ran really good but near the end started to slow down as his car developed a vibration causing him to brush the wall. Jay finished the race around 12th place. After the race and bringing the car to his pits his crew found that the bell housing had moved and maybe the engine had also moved. This problem may have gave Jay his ill handling car. After all was said and done Jay did a very good job on the very fast high bank track of Salem Speedway. Congratulations Jay!

POSTED 4-12-10 ARCA 200 WINNER AT SALEM SPEEDWAY
SALEM,
Ind. (4-11-10)-Steve Arpin earned his first career ARCA Racing Series
victory Sunday afternoon, winning the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200
presented by ApplianceZone.com at Salem (Ind.) Speedway.
Arpin,
driving the No. 55 Tag Heuer Chevrolet from the Venturini Motorsports
stables, powered around the outside of Joey Coulter on lap 142 and
outran a hungry field to claim the win, leading the final 57 laps. For
Arpin, the Salem win was special, as it also marked the scene of owner
Billy Venturini's only career win as a driver.
"Our
day was pretty good!" Arpin, the Aaron's lap leader, exclaimed. "This
is the place I wanted to win the most. It's just wild...the fans are
right on top of you...it's just a rush driving around this place! Billy
won here, and now I've won here!"
Venturini
reflected on the win, "This is where I got my first win, and it was so
special. Steve is like a brother. I just love him. He has been an
awesome addition to this team. I thank God every day that he is a part
of this program and to give him his first win was almost as emotional
as my first win here."
Craig
Goess, the CGS Imaging Hard Charger of the race, also posted his career
best finish in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards,
earning runner-up honors. "Johnny made the adjustment to try to make
the car driveable, and I think considering everything, it was a good
finish for us," Goess commented. "I think that we could have had the
win without that happening, but we will take second. Only one more spot
to get, and I'm looking forward to Texas."
Point
leader Justin Marks finished third, with defending race winner Patrick
Sheltra fourth and Tom Hessert fifth. Coulter, who was completive all
day, didn't have a finish that reflected his car. "The car was awesome.
The guys gave me an awesome car, and anyone who watched the race saw
that. Anytime I wanted to, I could just zip up to the front," Coulter
commented.
As
usual, the action was fast and furious on the .555 high-banked Salem
oval, and the event was slowed 11 times for caution, none of them
serious. The slam-bang action at the high banked Salem oval started
early, as the field bunched up with an accordion-effect on lap one,
causing a caution for debris.
Another
yellow flag was waved on lap 15, when Brent Brevak spun in turn 3. The
No. 3 Brevak Racing Dodge obtained significant front end damage. As the
field went green again, Menards pole-sitter and ARCA rookie Max Gresham
fell back to third, with Arpin and Coulter in the first two spots.
Arpin and Coulter battled hard until lap 50, when two cars got together
on the backstretch. Sixteen cars took advantage of the caution and pit
for fuel and tires, while ten cars, including Arpin and Coulter, stayed
out.
On
lap 78, the No. 6 ApplianceZone.com Toyota of Brandon McReynolds,
making his ARCA debut this weekend, pulled off the race track due to a
engine problem. Lap 79 brought on another caution, as the No. 36
Orchard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Dodge and No. 89 Lafferty Performance Chevy
made contact in turns 1 and 2. Robb Brent's No. 36 Dodge had major
front damage. Arpin and Coulter took this opportunity to make pit
stops, with eight other lead lap cars.
As
the field went green on lap 86, Patrick Sheltra led the field in his
No. 60 Buffalo Wings and Rings Dodge. As halfway approached, Coulter
got into Nick Igdalsky in turn 3. Igdalsky's No 1 ModSpace Ford slammed
into the outside wall, resulting in significant damage to the right
front. Coulter was on a hard charge when the green flag dropped on lap
103, picking up six spots in six laps and taking the lead in 13 laps.
The bad day continued for Igdalsky, cutting a right front tire, he hit
the turn 2 wall. The No. 1 car, again, received damage on the right
front. Coulter stayed out, when 13 cars took advantage of the caution
for pit stops.
Coulter's
lead was challenged again by Arpin, with Arpin taking the lead on lap
142. His lead did not last long under green flag conditions, as his
teammate Mikey Kile got into the wall in turn 4. Kile's No.25 Venturini
Motorsports Toyota stalled on the frontstretch and had severe damage on
the right front. The field once again slowed for a yellow when the No.
14, 48 and 47 got together and spun in turn 3.
As
the field went back to green, Arpin got to a good start and a sizeable
lead. Working his way back to the front, Coulter and RE/MAX Rookie of
the Race Dakoda Armstrong made contact and spun into the turn 3 wall.
Coulter's fast racecar received heavy damage to his racecar, and he
settled for a disappointing 14th place finish. Four laps
later, Alli Owens, Bryan Silas and Chris Buescher got together in turn
2. The last caution of the day occurred on lap 186, as Coulter made
contact with the inside wall of the backstretch. As the checkers fell
with Arpin in the lead, a battle was heating up for the top-5. Coming
out of turn 4, Sheltra got into the turn 4 wall but caught the car to
get a fourth place finish.
Seventeen
cars survived the 11 cautions and were running at the end - ten were on
the lead lap. Of the five drivers making their ARCA Racing Series
debut, Gresham finished the highest in sixth place.

We just found out that we'll be going to Buffalo Wild Wings on the last Thursday of every month for the show, and they are going to do a wing special on that night. I REALLY REALLY need the stock car guys to come out there. If you do you can eat cheap and we'll try to let you on the air for minute or two to thank your sponsors or ask questions.
Thanks to BW3's and their crew for making it happen.
See you at the races!

Van shown here in this photo spins out in turn three. Van will be a rookie at Beech Bend Raceway on the asphalt but Van is in no way a rookie. He is a dirt track racer. POSTED 4-7-10 DENNIS WHITE HAS NEW LATE MODEL AT THE TRACK TUESDAY NIGHT!
Photo courtesy of PBO Media Productions
In this photo you can see the new late model #3 of Dennis White. Dennis had his black #3 Chevy Monte Carlo at Beech Bend Raceway last night (Tuesday 4-6-10) to shake it down for Friday night races. As you can see the shake down didn't go as planned or did it? You say what Odell? Yes, maybe the shake down did go as planned. Let me explain. This is why Dallas Jones of Beech Bend has opened up the Beaver Fun night on Tuesday. Let's say that Dennis could not have tested his car then on Friday night during the race the mechanical problem had happen. We would or could have seen more damage to a lot of cars. Oh, by the way Dennis was not driving his car when this happen. Sammy Sanders a good friend of Dennis and driver of the #12 Chevy late model was the driver. Sammy had made few laps and then coming down the back straight away goes off into turn three and finds he has big problems. Was it no steering, no brakes, locked up brakes? I don't know and neither did Sammy at the time. However, has the two teams put their heads together I'm sure they will find the problem. The million dollar question is can/will they get this car back together for this Friday night? I hope so, because for one, Dennis is a super great guy and we (Beech Bend) needs the car count. Good luck men! NOTE: To see more photo's of this wreck and Tuesday night go to www.photosbyodell.photoreflect.com
