POSTED 7-31-09 WE MUST MAKE RACING FUN

I have sit back and read your post about Anthony, Daymond, Tony and Danny. I don't pretend to know everything, but one thing I know is hate will KILL the soul of man. In this sport (Stock Car Racing) it is very competitive, close hard nose type of sport such as rubbing fenders. If we love the sport and want to keep it going then we MUST stop all this HATE. I believe you have to love yourself before you can have love for your brother. Loving yourself will give you peace. Then you can love others and be able to forgive and forget. Sure it is easier said than done. And often times the other party involved doesn't have that love and respect for himself. He may attack you anyway. But remember you and only YOU are responsible for your own actions. There are men, women and children sitting in the stands each week watching your every move. How do you think they remember you? As a great driver and a great person? Maybe some of you don't really care. You are the ones that don't have any respect or love for your own self. Winning is not all about crossing the line first but being a real man or woman, and it's for sure that with all the fussing NO ONE IS A WINNER. Remember, lose your respect from others and you've lost everything. I must admit, I have gotten caught up in this HATE thing and it seems that it is just the natural thing for stock car racing, not so. After spending some time with the drag racing guys, it is so much more peaceful and FUN. I for one am going to try to change my ways and I'm calling on you the drivers, fans and etc. to lets put FUN and respect for one and other back in the sport that I love the most. You will still get mad in a race but don't fight, fuss and cuss. Go to the driver, just you and the driver talk, no crew and other people, just the two of you and then talk it out like real men should. It's much better to work it out than to fight and go to jail or tear up your car that you and your family don't have money to make repairs. I guess you think I have lost my mine with this sermon, but no I haven't, it's just that I love Stock Car racing and like all you guys and gals (maybe not all of your ways) but really most of you are great people. Lets be a big happy racing family. Thanks for reading this, yours truly Odell Turner

POSTED 7-31-09 STOCK CAR RACES AT BBR TONIGHT

Make plans to be at Beech Bend Raceway Park tonight for some exciting stock car races. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing starting at 8:00 p.m. Will Bo Miller take the win in the late model class or will points leader Sammy Sanders pull it off. It could be Chad Willis, Mark Oliver, Danny Smith or someone else. Look at the Sportsman class, it is full of some fast hot rods. Will Phillip Akin hold on to his points lead or will Robert Cohron take it away? The Modified Street class should be exciting with Tony Rothe running fast and coming off a win last week but hold on Danny Marr wasn't in that race can Danny come back and get the win. Don't forget Rita Cline is still trying to get her first win in the Modified Street. And can ANYONE BEAT Curtis Butler in the Front Runner Class? Will there be another first time winner in the Front Runner Figure-8? Can Dakota Gibson repeat in the Front Runner Figure-8? What about them All American Bombers, have they cooled down? Will the winner be David Harrod again this week or will Stacey Key, Darrell Alford or Jason Turner be in victory circle? Be sure to make plans to be here and see all this action and more. POSTED 7-29-09 RECAP OF FRIDAY NIGHT STOCK CAR RACES AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY PARK

Hello race fans! I will try to share a recap of the races by divisions. Let's start with the Front Runner Figure-8 Class. The points leader #32 Mark Cummings finished fifth, second in points #41 Jeff Hogan comes in second. The biggest story in my opinion was first time winner #5A Dakota Gibson. I didn't see anything in this race that needs to be discussed. Moving along to the All American Bomber Class. This class was crazy two weeks ago. I am happy to report that all drivers drove a really good race. The only thing that I saw was my son #75 Jason Turner gave #72 Stacey Key a shot to the rear on the start of the race and caused Stacey to go toward the wall. I ask Jason after the race what he was thinking and he said that he gave his car the throttle as he always does and that he didn't know what happen. He said Stacey was normally gone and that he thought Stacey's car hesitated or something happened. Jason said that you know I would not wreck my car on purpose. He also said that he talked to Stacey after the race and told him he didn't mean to hit him like that. Jason Turner #75 is the points leader and finished second, Darrell Alford #17 second in points finishing third. Now for the Front Runner Class. Points Leader #8c Curtis Butler wins again, second in points #23 Tommy Hoover comes in third. I didn't see anything that was a big news story except the #4 of Steve Schultz was all over the track sideways and hit several cars. This guy is wild and something to watch. One more thing, when will someone get tired of Curtis winning all the races and put the money on him? I personally don't care but just think these guys need to get in the billfold and fix their cars or put the money on him. Now for the Late Model Class. He's BACK!!!!! Bo Miller is back at Beech Bend Raceway and back in the winners circle. Points leader #12 Sammy Sanders finishes second and second in points #25 Mark Oliver comes in third. But #38 Bo Miller wins the race. I will have to say it was a great race and Sammy drove the wheels off his car, putting the bumper to Bo Miller on the last lap and pushing all the way to the flagman stand. Both drivers in my opinion are pros. Before I forget, I must say that #2 with driver Danny Smith lead the most laps but in my opinion saw too much of Bo Miller in his rear mirror and spun out going into turn three giving up the lead. I think Danny will be in the winners circle before the year is over. This next class is having real trouble with car count. In practice #11 driven by Smiths Grove's very own Danny "The Grove Rat" Marr spun out in the middle of turn three and four. Then #44 Tony Rothe comes into turn three and hits Danny. Tony said he didn't see Danny until it was too late because of the sun in his eyes. Danny thinks Tony had time to get his car stopped. Tony got his car repaired but Danny didn't. The Points leader is #44 Tony Rothe and won the race, #11M Matt Melton taking over second in points by only 5 points over #11 Danny Marr. Melton finished fourth. Now for the Sportsman class. This class was just about to be dropped because of a lack of cars. In tonight's race we had nine cars. Points leader #44 Phillip Akin in the Miller Lite car was the winner. Second place in points is #99 Robert Cohron finishing third. Robert is only FOUR POINTS behind Phillip. I have gotten several emails and Anthony's wife made a post about this next deal ( Posted 7-20-09 Top Eight Sportsman). The sportsman race saw #28 driven by Daymond Long in the Budweiser car and #48 driven by Anthony Russell in the WSM prepared car have a spin. I was looking through my view finder of my camera in turn three and four and did not see what happened. I have been hearing a lot of talk about both drivers not happy with each other. I know you are going to say, here you go stirring the pot. No, just reporting the races and if the pot gets stirred it will be you all. In closing with the recap I thought we had a good night of racing. See you at the track Friday. (If it don't rain!)

POSTED 7-29-09 THE HARD CHARGER AWARD THIS WEEK

My "HARD CHARGER AWARD" this week goes to Dakota Gibson #5A in the Front Runner Figure-8. Dakota has been racing only a few years and has improved every race. On Friday night Dakota got his first ever win in the Front Runner Figure-8. Congratulations Datoka on a job well done. As I always say, you win nothing by receiving this award. See you Friday night.

POSTED 7-22-09 RESPONSE TO A COMMENT

This is in response to the comment made under the title "What did your eyes see in the All American Bomber Class Race Friday Night?" First things first, you call me a blow hard. That is fine with me honestly it is. But, two things about that, one is if I am a blow hard and you don't like me for my reporting on this site I have a question to ask you, why do you get on my site and waste your time commenting about such a blow hard? I mean who really cares about what I say? You must think that if Odell says it, it is the pure true gospel! A note to you, please read the subtitle again, it states "NEWS and RUMORS" The rumors can be classified as my OPINIONS. Secondly, I post with my name, I know you don't have to use your name but if I was going to call a man names I would at least put my name on it, I sure do! Now you ask why shouldn't the others get barred? I stated that I didn't see the #34 spin Stacey, and I have NOT heard anyone from the #34 say anything about doing that on purpose. However, I have had many folks say that they heard that. Here is my reasoning for what I saw, I think Stacey Key should be barred for the rest of the year. How did I arrive with that? It is simple, Stacey came out of turn 3 and 4 and ran straight at the #34 with the throttle wide open and hit the #34. That is the same thing that Billy Williams did just not as dramatic. That is what Anthony Russell did, but hurt someone. Both those guys got barred for the rest of the year. Also, Stacey got out of his car and went to the #34 in the attack mode. So there you go for Stacey. As for as the #34, if the Track personal did not see or hear them planning the attack, which I didn't hear and they (BBR) probably didn't either then it becomes a judgement call from the flagman as to bar the #34 for rough driving. If the #34 comes back next week and take out the number 72 then he should be barred. But because the track officials have let the #72 get away with this I suspect that Friday will be wide open, with no rules in place. I would ask you another question, it sounds like you are a Stacey Key fan, so how did you get your information from the Farris Family that they were going to take out Stacey. And about me reporting bits and pieces, not even CNN or FOX NEWS can report everything. The other thing about my son, he doesn't need my help, he has won races and is in the points lead all without my help. Jason (my son) gets along with all the drivers. It you haven't noticed David Harrod has been fast and won, Darrell Alford is tied with Stacey for second and is just as much a threat as Stacey. Besides, why should I worry about Stacey, I don't need to get him barred to save my son, Stacey seems to do a good enough job of taking his self out. Another thing, I'm not in anyones pocket, as you stated that I must be friends with the #34. I know all the Bomber drivers about the same. Let me address the cussing, I think most of that came from the grandstands and I DO NOT AGREE with that, I don't care if it is me, you or whoever. There are young kids in the stands, families and church people that just wants to watch racing and not hear all that foul language. Please let me say this, I am not mad at you that wrote this, but you need to realize that I do a TV show, Blog site, photos for Beech Bend Raceway's web site and track photography, with all this it is because I LOVE STOCK CAR RACING. I don't always get it right but I can say I'm sorry when I'm wrong. In closing on this story, Thanks to all you readers and supporters of Local News and Rumors by ODELL. Odell Turner (PS: IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A COMMENT DO NOT USE FOUL WORDS OR EVEN %$#, IF YOU WANT TO BE HEARD THEN KEEP IT CLEAN. ALSO NOT STUPID STUFF LIKE COMMITTEE'S AND SPELLING LIKE YOU ARE A HILLBILLY. ONLY REAL COMMENTS WILL BE ALLOWED. THANKS FOR HELPING KLEEP THIS SITE CLEAN AND SOMEWHAT SENSEABLE.)

POSTED 7-20-09 MY HARD CHARGER AWARD FOR THIS WEEK

My "HARD CHARGER AWARD" goes to the winning driver of the Front Runner Figure-8 this week. Jeff Hogan #41 is this weeks Hard Charger. Jeff has lead probably more laps in the Front Runner figure-8 than any other driver to come up in second or worst. If my mind serves me right this is Jeff's first figure-8 win. Good driving and a job well done Jeff! Congratulations.

POSTED 7-20-09 WHAT DID YOUR EYES SEE IN THE ALL AMERICAN BOMBER CLASS RACE FRIDAY NIGHT?

Hey race fans, I'm not on here to stir up things (as some have said about me) but only report the news and rumors of local racing. That brings me to what I think is the story of the week. Let me set the stage here. This story comes from the All American bomber class this last Friday night (7-17-09). It involves two racers, #72 Stacey Key and #34 Jeff Farris. Hold on, first lets go back to the week before. The #17 car driven by Darrell Alford and #72 of Stacey Key got into a bumping match which then turns into a little more with the #17 cutting across the track and going straight for the #72 of Stacey Key, luckily Darrell missed him. Now that sets us up for this last Friday night. The #34 of Jeff Farris spins #72 of Stacey Key in turn three and four (which was really turn one and two. NOTE: The bombers ran backwards) as Stacey was leading the race. I did NOT see that spin. I did hear that they (72 and 34) had been having trouble before Friday night. Anyway, after the spin, what I saw was the #72 take off from turn four and drive straight for the #34 in which he did and with a wide open speed hit the #34 car which cause the #72 car to become airborne almost roof high of the #34 car. Both cars were damaged. Neither driver was hurt, luckily. After the hit the driver of the #72 car got out of his car and went to the drivers door of the #34 car and was having what looked like an unfriendly conversation and I was out on the track with the camera so I could see this plainly. In my opinion #72 should have been barred and he was not according to Track Director Gary Dalton. I ask Gary after the race and he said that he, and other track officials didn't see anything that would grant barring Key. I say BULL. So I ask you the fans to comment about what you saw. I may very well be wrong. But hold on don't the rules state that a driver MUST ALWAYS stay in his/her car while on the race track? Stacey DID get out of his car and made the aggressive move toward Jeff. Anyway, I know some fans like the action but as a former driver and a father of a Bomber driver I DO NOT LIKE to see drivers use their cars a a WEAPON! Be a man and face the driver face to face after the race in the PITS so families and KIDS don't have to see the unsportsman like conduct of you brainless drivers. Remember you do set examples for up and coming drivers and I hope they didn't think you were right in your attach Friday. These cars have NO roll bars and if this keeps on someone may get HURT or KILLED. Drivers we the fans pay to see hard nose racing not a demolition derby. I like all you drivers and understand as a former stock car driver that tempers do run high but you need to keep it in check or find another sport to compete in. RIGHT OR WRONG?

POSTED 7-20-09 KEN-TEN PRO LATE MODEL SERIES RACE # 5 RECAP

Ken-Ten Series race # 5 Riverview Speedway 7-18-09 Racing for the Kids of St. Jude 100 His last name says it all Victory, Local hot shoe Jimmy Victory sets AR Bodies Fast Time and after the draw(top 6 fastest draw for their starting spots) Jimmy pulls out the # 1 spot! Sammy Sanders starts 2nd after qualifying 5th,Davey Coble 3rd after timing in at 3rd quick.DBV Properties Rookie contender Josh Brock qualified 2nd and started 4th.Local favorite Zach Taylor currently Tim Steeles driver in the CRA Series was on hand driving his family owned car, he qualified 4th and started 5th.Brian Royalty timed in at 6th and started 6th,that rounds out the top 6. Michael Driskell started 7th,Josh Byrns 8th,Mason Mingus another one of our DBV Properties Rookie rookie contender 9th,Gregg Carby 10th. James The King Climer qualified 11th,David Guenther 12th,Marty Taylor 13th,Bennie Hamlett driving the #00 of Tommy Climer was 14th,Adam Wright 15th and Ben McFarland 16th. We had just 16 cars on hand, but I would have to say it was the best race of the season for the Ken-Ten Series. The pole was a 10:792 and 15th quick had a time of 11:383.So far this season we’ve had 47 cars run with us!! On the start of the race, Jimmy Victory driving the 18 car of Tracy Wix slips a little out of turn 2 washing up the track in front of Sammy Sanders, this allowed Davey Coble to take the lead down the backstretch. Davey held onto the lead till lap 16,Jimmy had made a great save on the start and took over the lead on lap 17.Our first caution came on lap 26 for both 98 cars of Mason Mingus and Zach Taylor who where running in the top 5 at the time.RVS officials ruled it a racing incident, Mason gets his spot back and Zach who came into the pits restarted on the tail. A few laps before this action Davey Coble who had a strong run going in 2nd got super loose, headed to the pits under this caution for some adjustments!! On the restart Jimmy is the leader, Sammy 2nd,Michael Driskell 3rd and Mason 4th.Lap 32 caution for the car of James The King Climer hard into the outside wall in turn 3 after some contact in the left rear. James gets the AR Bodies Hard Luck award for the race. Our top 8 eight at the time where, Jimmy leading, Sammy 2nd,Michael 3rd,Josh Brock 4th,Brian Royalty 5th,Mason 6th,Josh Byrns 7th and Bennie Hamlett 8th Lap 50 we still had Jimmy leading, Sammy 2nd,Josh Brock,3rd Brian 4th and Josh Byrns 5th.We had just 2 cautions on the nations fastest ¼ mile track and at the checkers Jimmy Victory gets the win!!DBV Properties Rookie of the race Josh Brock was 2nd after putting a move on Sammy during the 68 lap green flag action. Sammy was 3rd,Brian 4th and Josh Byrns 5th Rounding out the top 10,Benny Hamlett 6th,Mason Mingus 7th last car on the lead lap! Michael Driskell 8th,Zach Taylor 9th and in 10th Gregg Carby. The racers who did show up to put on a great show and drove each other with respect, you guys deserve a that a boy for that. The ones who didn’t show missed a GREAT show, 2 cautions guys, that says it all. The only knock I had was the late start which will be addressed next year when we go back and the lapped cars at the end of the race, guys the shoe will be on the other foot some time!! Respect the leaders and move over, that very well could have affected the outcome of the race. Jimmy did a great job getting thru that mess, He and Tracy will be running with us more this year, a lot of smiles after the races especially in the payout line! Big hats off to the sponsors for your help on the race and for the help with the series. I cannot express my gratitude enough!!!Thanks to all of you, Bo and Arty Hall of RVS and his crew on a job well done, also the local racers with late model stocks for showing up!! A very special thanks to Randy from Circle Wheels for showing up and giving the command to start you engines and the extra money on their gift certificate. Craig Thompson

WHITE BECOMES FOURTH DIFFERENT IOFS WINNER Plymouth, IN - July 11, 2009 - Casey White earned his first career International Outlaw Figure 8 Series (IOFS ) feature win Saturday night at Plymouth, IN Speedway. He becomes the fourth different winner in as many events in 2009. The evening began with a new track record. Eddie VanMeter earned the Edco Welding Fast Time Award with a lap of 18.623 seconds around the 3/8 mile Figure 8 coarse. Heat races went to Charlie Hargraves and Rich Fenwick. When the feature began, pole sitter Jeff Hizer's night got off to a rough start as he was involved in a crash on the opening lap. When the race finally began Jeff Shackleford found himself leading the first 1/4 of the event. Shackleford was being trailed closely by White and VanMeter. VanMeter was forced to the pits with a flat left rear tire prior to the half way point. White then took command of the event for good building a small lead the rest of the way. Shackleford and Van Meter battled for second place until the checkered flag with VanMeter coming out on top. Fourth place went to Chris Green while current point leader, Doug Greig, rounded out the top five. Richard Dickens earned the highest finishing stock award with his seventh place finish. The IOFS will not be in action again until August 15 when the series returns to Plymouth Speedway. The event will be round #5 of the IOFS 2009 season schedule. OFFICIAL FINISH: 1. Casey White2. POSTED 7-14-09 EMAIL ABOUT DOODLE'S IOFS RACE

Odell, It's me again! Here are two pics that were taken this past weekend at Plymouth. Yes, that white car with the yellow duct tape 85 IS Doodle! The car may not have been the best looking thing but I think "The White Knight" looked pretty dang good going around Plymouth considering the limited amount of time they had to get it ready! Doodle and Billy Williams once again worked their tails off and it paid off since Doodle brought home a 7th place finish, the highest finishing stocker award & the hard charger award!! I had a hard time deciding what to name this car. I thought of "The White Knight" or "Big Bertha". Since this car "came to the rescue" for Doodle, no other name would fit as perfect as "The White Knight"! We had to deal with some slight issues. There was water in the fuel but thanks to some of the other IOFS crew members that jumped in to help out, Doodle and the guys were able to get the fuel cell pulled out, emptied and put back in before the feature started. He also had some handling issues but he dealt with that the best he could. All of that should be worked out before the August 15th show back in Plymouth, IN. Slowly but surely, we are knocking these races down one by one, only 5 more left on the circuit- 3 more in IN and 2 in KY!! With each race we have gone to, the racing gets better and better so you can only imagine what kinda of show BBR will get being that it is not until Sept. 18th. Bowling Green race fans will get their money's worth!!! The IOFS has had 4 races with 4 different winners if that tells ya anything! I for one will be glad when they roll into BBR. Not only because the racing will be off the charts but we will be close to home, lol. Again, I can't go without the thanks going out to all that has helped Doodle do what he loves to do and that is nothing but racing- figure 8 racing at that! I hope each and every person that has helped in any way knows that Doodle and I are extremely appreciative! Thanks so much to: Pro Machine, Cohron's Mechanical, Jerry's Tires & Mufflers, Photo's By Odell, B&R Racer's Supply, C&P Racing, Billy Williams, Jay Parrish, Robert Cohron, Keith Montgomery, Danny Montgomery, Bill Phelps, Steve Wyatt, Robert & Rita Cline, all of the family & fans that have supported Doodle throughout all his years of racing...and I know I am leaving someone (some people) out and I apologize deeply for doing so. Thank You just doesn't say enough to everyone that helps out! Please continue to support our BG driver in his Chase for the Chassis! He is sure to make you and BG proud!

POSTED 7-6-09 NO SHOW FOR TONIGHT

NO SHOW TONIGHT! INSIGHT STILL HAS SOME PROBLEM'S SORRY TUNE IN NEXT WEEK MAYBE?

POSTED 7-6-09 RICHARD "DOODLE" DICKENS WRECKED IN THE X OF THE IOFS RACE AT ANDERSON SPEEDWAY IN INDIANA

Hey Odell, here are some pics from Anderson. These pics were not taken by me. I actually stole them from Race8.com members that had them posted. My pics are still on the camera with a dead battery and it is taking forever to charge. I figured you can use these. I know they aren't going to mind. The damage here does not look that bad but it is bad enough that Doodle and Billy Williams (BG Billy Williams) are putting a car together right now so we can make Plymouth this Saturday. I am not 100% sure on this but I think that Doodle still finished 15 even after the wreck. At this point, I do not know where he sits on the overall points but he is still leading the "stocker" points. Going into the Anderson race, he was 7th in overall points. So, still not bad for what he is running against. He has a 4th, 10th and now 15th. Hopefully at Plymouth we can grab another top 10...top 5 would be nice though, lol. Well, as always, I want to thank everyone that helped make this trip possible: Cohron's Mechanical & B&R Racer's Supply....a very special, huge thanks goes out to them!!! C&P Racing, Jerry's Tires & Mufflers, Photos by Odell, Pro Machine. Billy Williams, Jay Parrish and Jerry Cohron have helped tremendously! Doodle or I could never say thank you enough!! I hope everyone that has helped knows that we certainly do appreciate it and hope that one day we can return all the favors! I also want to say thanks to everyone that called, emailed and texted to check on Doodle and for giving/offering their support while he is attempting to finish these next 6 races. Hopefully all the hard work put out by everyone will pay off in the end and Doodle will win that chassis! Only time will tell. Sure do wish y'all could make it to some of these races. It is by far some of the best figure 8 racing I have seen. Not to mention the racing that is taking place in the other classes that run at these tracks. All I can say is "WOW"! The crossover action resulted on or around lap 25 or so. Doodle had made the decision to go behind Magee once Magee had made his way through the "X". The leader, Van Meter, was coming along side of Doodle about the same time Magee was going to cross through. Magee must have suddenly changed his mind once he began to go through because he basically stopped in front of Doodle resulting in Doodle hitting him. After the initial contact with Magee, somehow Doodle took a shot right behind the driver's door from someone else. The damage to the car caused the throttle to hang and Doodle was headed straight toward the wall. Luckily, he got the car shut down before anymore damage could occur. The end result: two torn up race cars. More importantly, both Doodle and Magee are ok. Angie Dickens NOTE: WE HERE AT LOCAL RACING NEWS AND RUMORS BY ODELL WOULD LIKE TO PUT THE CALL OUT TO ALL OUR LOCAL BUSINESS OR FANS AND SAY IF YOU COULD SEND MONEY, PARTS AND ETC. POSTED 7-6-09 IOFS RACE RECAP AND FINISHING ORDER

VANMETER MASTERS HIGH BANKS Anderson, Indiana - July 3, 2009 - Eddie VanMeter used patience and experience to his advantage to claim the International Outlaw Figure 8 Series (IOFS)event at Anderson Speedway Friday night. It was VanMeter's first career IOFS victory and he becomes the third differentwinner in as many events thus far in 2009. Twenty-three cars were on hand as the series made it's first visit of the year to the unofficial home of the IOFS, AndersonSpeedway. Current series point leader, Gary Bedell, was the Edco Welding fast qualifier with a lap of 16.957 seconds. Heatraces went to: Johnny Magee, Eddie VanMeter, and RJ Norton III. A 15 pill was drawn just prior to the feature insuring that fans were in for a treat. Fast qualifier Gary Bedell would have to start no less than 15th in the 50 lap IOFS main event. The front row would find Johnny Magee and Jeff Hizer taking the green flag from starter Ron Sheedy. Jeff Hizer got the jump and lead the opening laps. Within seconds the "X" began to get crowded. The leaders began encountering close calls as theyweaved through the slower cars. Rick Fenwick was beginning to work his way to the front with VanMeter trailing closely. The two would put on a driving exhibition as they worked aroound slower cars that were virtually all over the speedway. Fenwick took the lead near the lap ten mark. Vanmeter began to challenge Fenwick who seemed to be getting around the lapped cars with ease. Just after the half way point, Fenwick was forced to the pits with a flat right rear tire. VanMeter would now have to contendwith Jeff Shackleford who had started dead last in a back-up car after his primary car had broke. Shackleford thrilled fans as he had arguably the best drive of the night up to this point. VanMeter was able to get around lapped cars quickly the finaltwenty laps holding on to claim his first-ever IOFS main event. Shackleford was the 'AMSOIL HARD CHARGER' award winner presented by authorized dealer Elmer Schaeffer. Jeff Swinford wasthe highest stock finisher. The next IOFS event will be July 11, 2009 at Plymouth, IN. For more info log on to: www.iofsracing.com OFFICIAL FINISH: 1. Eddie VanMeter2. Jeff Shackleford3. Casey White4. Doug Greig5. Jeff Hizer6. POSTED 7-5-09 HARD CHARGER AWARD FOR THIS WEEK

LOCAL RACING NEWS AND RUMORS BY ODELL Gives the "HARD CHARGER AWARD" And it goes to two drivers to share for this week. First driver is #11 Danny Marr. Danny ran second to Tony Rothe in the Modified Street class. He ran a almost perfect line and bumped Tony but didn't spin him. Danny was very fast and I know as a former stock car driver that the temptation was there to make a bone head move, Danny never did that. Like him or not he drove the wheels off that #11 Chevy. A winning Modified/Sportsman driver once told me this "The best driver doesn't always WIN, sometimes it's best to finish second and have respect from fans and drivers" (The Late Wade Johnson) The other driver is #12 Sammy Sanders. I know before I start this story some of you are going to say that Sammy is stinking up the late model show. I heard that from fans in the stands as I took Sammy's winning pictures. That is another story for another time and we will talk about that later. Now for the reason to give Sammy the award. Sammy had fast time with 50lbs added to him, he ran a good clean race in race one. Second race Sammy had to start in the back with good drivers like Bo Miller on the pole. By the way another story for later, did Bo Miller Miller have REAL trouble and fall to the back so he could be on the POLE in race two? Did anyone else see that? Back to the real story, Sammy started in the back and picked off one at a time until he got to the better cars and then did you see what he did? He passed them on the outside. On that track you just don't usually do that. Very impressive Sammy! And then closing in on then race leader Bo Miller and he (Sammy) plants his car in deep and hard on Bo in turn one on the inside and makes a very clean pass. I will give it to Bo, he give Sammy plenty of room. Good Job Sammy. And to both drivers, Congratulations on sharing the "HARD CHARGER AWARD" this week. As always you guys win absolutely nothing by winning this award. See you next race at Beech Bend Raceway.

POSTED 7-5-09 HIGHLAND RIM SPEEDWAY RAINS OUT SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Due to the questionable weather, Highland Rim Speedway Management has decided to cancel the races for today. Armbands and tickets from Saturday July 4th’s race will be honored on 7/11. The Sportsman 50 lap race will be held on 7/11 plus racing in 8 other divisions! It will be a full night of racing! Tickets will be $10 for the grandstands, but for those living in East Nashville (37206, 37207 & 37216), show your drivers license and get free grandstand admission!! Below is the recap of the action before the rain won the race… July 4, 2009 -- Highland Rim Speedway celebrated Independence Day all day long on Saturday. Seven cars and trucks participated in the Greenbrier July 4th Parade Saturday morning. The parade went through the heart of Greenbrier. Sportsman Driver, Jonathan Wilhite, Super Stock Driver, Willie Coats, Front Wheel Drive Mod Driver, Tim Jacobs, Challenger Drivers, Terry Conn and Toby Tobitt, and Pro Truck Drivers, Chuck Adcock and Buddy Williams all brought their racecars and trucks out for the event. Threatening weather loomed all around most of the afternoon, but die hard Rim fans came out to cheer on their favorite drivers! But rains washed out the Rockin’ and Racin’ Extravaganza Saturday night at Highland Rim Speedway. The Front Wheel Drive Modifieds were the only class to complete their race before the rains came. The race ran caution free, though there were several near misses. Kevin Gregory nosed out into the lead early in the race with Harold Cole and Sam Arnold right in his tire tracks. Jerry Nuckols and David Frost had some great side by side racing for four laps before Nuckols completed the pass and looked towards the front. Nuckols challenged his teammate, Cole the next lap for third taking the spot and then the Gregory’s lead the next lap. Points Leader, Scott Conner and Chris Allen bounced off each other on lap ten. Allen got out of sorts but was able to gather it back up without loosing much ground. With just two laps to go, Gregory and Frost got together. Frost did some fancy driving to save his car and continue on. The checkers flew for Nuckols who finished several car lengths ahead of second place Conner. Third place went to Allen. The Rim Runners got to start their race, but the rains washed things out. Chris York jumped out to the lead on the first lap with Donold Webb all over him in second. Webb made his move on lap three challenging for the lead as Paul Lambert and Bevin Wilson worked on each other for third. The top four ran two by two for five laps before they got crossed up coming down the front stretch. Rain came before the track could be cleared. Since the race hadn’t made it to half way, the race was not official and will be started over fresh next week. Racing continues next Saturday night at the Rim with 9 spine tingling classes of cars and trucks competing for over 200 laps of high banked racing excitement highlighted by an always exciting 50 lap Sportsman Race! East Nashville residents (37206, 37207 & 37216) residents can show their driver’s license and get into the grandstands absolutely FREE!!!! Make plans now to see what’s new at the Rim! Grandstand Admission is $10, Youth 6-11 is $5, Children 5 & Under are free with a paid adult. Pit Admission is $25. Racing starts at 6:00 pm. Pit gates open at 1:00 pm, grandstands at 3:00 pm. Qualifying at 4:30 pm. Highland Rim Speedway is a high banked 1/3 mile asphalt track competing weekly from March through October. For more information check the website www.highlandrim.com. Subject: Highland Rim Speedway Postponed!!! Rains got the best of us tonight at Highland Rim Speedway. But we’re going to try again tomorrow to get our race in! Racing will start at 2 pm. Pit Gates open at noon, Main Gates open at 1 pm. We will have 6 classes running including a 50 lap Sportsman Race! (The Front Wheel Drive Modifieds got to run tonight – Jerry Nuckols picked up the win!) POSTED 7-4-09 TURN OR BURN MOTORSPORTS RECAP

The Turn or Burn Motorsports team has a great start to the July Fourth weekend. Fireworks lit up the sky and the air was cool, Josh Byrns started the Ken-Ten series Late Model race from inside the pole. Abruptly the No. 31 Southern Foods Chevy dropped back one position. As the race developed, Byrns found the tempo of the race and maintained the third position. On lap 12 the No. 31 Chevy slightly kissed the front stretch wall only leaving cosmetic damage. A yellow flag was produced on lap 25 slowing Byrns’ progress. Throughout the course of the next run, Byrns drove away from the field. Still in third position, Byrns trailed on the back bumper of the No. 14, getting a better run on Coble through turn two. On lap 36 the caution flew and suspended the Turn or Burn driver’s advancement. Byrns reported the car handled better on a longer run and the car was tight, it needed work before the next 50-lap race. For the remainder of the race the Southern F oods Chevy fell in line to finish in third position. Second Race-Beech Bend Raceway Park 50-Lap Due to an inverted field, the No. 31 Turn or Burn Motorsports team was forced to start the second 50-lap race at Beech Bend Raceway Park in the seventh position. A quick caution resulted from the No.5 car spinning in the middle of the track, gave Byrns the break he was looking for. A restart from the inside granted him a steal to the sixth position. The speed of the car was comparable to the front-runners, but positioning was hard to gain. On lap 12 the caution flag was displayed for a spin and hard impact on the back straight away. Byrns began working his way to the front gaining two positions. He held his line to finish the race in fourth position. Byrns will return to the seat of the No. 31 Turn or Burn Motorsports car July 18 at Riverview Speedway for the 100 lap Ken-Ten Late Model series fifth race in Carthage, TN. Next weekend, the rookie driver Mary Daniels will debut her sto ck car career at Beech Bend Raceway Park. For more information visit www.TurnorBurn.com

POSTED 7-1-09 IOFS PRESS RELEASE

IOFS TO KICK OFF INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND FRIDAY The International Outlaw Figure 8 Series (IOFS) is set to kick off Independence weekend this Friday night at Anderson Speedway for round #3 on the 2009 schedule. A full program of events including qualifying and heats will be capped off by a 50 lap feature. Also on the racing program will be the ThunderCars and Front Wheel Drive oval divisions. A huge field is expected with current IOFS point leader and round #1 winner, Gary Bedell heading the list of expected entries. Also expected is defending Anderson 2008 IOFS winner Charlie Hargraves and Doug Greig who is currently second in the IOFS point standings. Greig has been by far the most consistent driver in the series to date with two runner-up finishes. Perhaps one of the most interesting entries expected is Christian Rayburn, who is the son of car builder and Late Model Legend CJ Rayburn.Rayburn is a name familiar with Anderson Speedway fans as well as Midwest Late Model fans. The elder Rayburn set a world qualifying record at Anderson Speedway on September 22, 1984 with a lap of 10.880 second around the .250 mile oval. Rayburn set the record in a winged Super Late Model and the record stood for thirteen years until Denny England lowered it to 10.678 with a winged sprint car in 1997. The younger Rayburn will be making his first asphalt start as well as Figure 8 start in a Jeff Shackleford owned car. Rayburn has spent the majority of his career up to this point running Dirt Late Model's throughout the Midwest. Seeing the Rayburn name associated with Anderson Speedway once again should bring back memories to many who were in attendance that cool fall night in 1984. Other expected entries include: Jeff Hizer, Chris Green, Jeff Shackleford, Johny Hargraves, Rodney Sizemore, Rich Fenwick, and Richard Dickens among others. Several Anderson Figure 8 drivers are expected to compete as well. A field of twenty-plus cars is expected. On July 3rd the pit gates will open at 4pm, practice at 5pm, qualifying at 6:30pm, and racing scheduled to begin at 8pm. Admission prices for this event are $10 for adults, children ages 6-12 $4, and children under 5 free. For more info go to: www.iofsracing.com or www.andersonspeedway.com
