These photos were taken today 5-17-10 of the drag track and area.  I'm happy to share this news with you.  Beech Bend Raceway will drag race this Saturday night.  Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00 p.m.  Then on Sunday 5-23-10 we will have the NHRA points drag racing with gates opening at 11:00 a.m. and elimination at noon with racing at 2:00 p.m.

Beech Bend Park Announces FREE Soft Drinks! 

Beech Bend Park will offer free soft drinks with every admission in 2010.  "Our guests have been asking for free soft drinks for the last couple of years.  Along with the doubling of our water park and all the other new additions, we are pleased to announce that all guests will receive free soft drinks in 2010", commented Dallas Jones, park president.  Beech Bend Park is a great family value.  Parking is free, sunscreen is free, inner tubes and mats are free and now soft drinks are free also!

 

Construction Continues on the New Splash Lagoon Water Park

Crews are working daily on construction of the new wave pool, lazy river and Tiki Island play structure.  The foundation work is complete and the river is being formed now.  The weather has slowed progress down slightly, but the project is still on schedule for opening by Memorial Day weekend.

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (December 28, 2009) –  Dave Moody, host of "SIRIUS Speedway" on SIRIUS NASCAR Radio 128 and lead turn announcer for MRN's NASCAR race broadcasts, has been named as the official starter of the Polar Bear 150 at Rockingham Speedway. Moody will wave the green flag at the New Year's Day event, officially starting the first race of 2010.
 

The 2nd Annual Polar Bear 150, which will be held at noon January 1, will be a chance for race fans to celebrate the beginning of the 2010 racing season with competitive racing by the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals Series. The entry list, which already has 71 registrants, includes a combination of NASCAR drivers and crew members, drivers from the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards, and previous Rockingham winners from the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals Series.

Speedway owner, Andy Hillenburg, personally chose Moody to give the green for the second annual running of the race. Moody, who has been a regular on MRN Radio since 1998, is looking forward to performing his official starter duties. “The Polar Bear 150 is grassroots racing at its best, and I'm proud to be a part of it,” said Moody. “I just hope I don't drop the flag.”

The 2nd annual Polar Bear 150 kicks off on Thursday, December 31, 2009. Gates open at 8:00 AM and practice sessions take place from 1:00-1:45 PM and 3:00-3:45 PM.

European-style qualifying will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 1, 2010, and the green flag will drop at 12:00 PM. A driver autograph session, which will include the starting lineup as well as Moody, Firestone Indy Lights driver Leilani Münter, and some all-star surprises, will take place at the frontstretch fence between the conclusion of qualifying and driver introductions.

October 22, 2009 Josh Weston to race in the GAS 150 during Nashville Fairgrounds 400 Weekend Josh Weston will return to the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville to run in the Georgia Asphalt Series 150 on November 1 during the Nashville Fairgrounds All-American 400 weekend. “I’m very excited to be at my home track for the first time this year,” said Weston. The 27-year-old from Mt. Juliet, TN will pilot the #97 Red Arrow Delivery Service/AR Bodies Ford Fusion out of the Josh Weston Motorsports, Inc. stable. This will make the second start of the year in his #97 Late Model. Weston’s last start came on August 15, when he finished 6th in the ASA Challenge Series race at the Nashville Superspeedway. Earlier this season, Weston won at Riverview Speedway in the Late Model and Sportsman divisions driving for Johnson Racing. “I have had a great year so far, but nothing would be better than winning a race at the historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. My team has worked really hard preparing the car for this race and I have high expectations for the Nashville Fairgrounds All-American 400 weekend. I have not been able to race much the past two seasons due to concentrating on graduating with a bachelor’s degree in marketing this December, so I try to make it count when I do get to race occasionally” Weston stated. Weston has a history at the Fairgrounds Speedway from his first go kart race on the ¼ mile track in 1991, becoming the 1999 Late Model Rookie of the Year, to finishing 3rd in the 2007 Late Model points. INAUGURAL IOFS FWD EVENT SATURDAY; GREIG HEADLINES OUTLAWS SEPTEMBER 2, 2009 - Indianapolis, Indiana - International outlaw Figure 8 Series (IOFS) officials are preparing for one of the biggest Figure 8 events of the entire 2009 season. The IOFS will debut their new Front Wheel Drive series in a special twenty-lap feature capped off by a fifty-lap affair for their Outlaw Late Model division this Saturday night at Anderson Speedway. The IOFS program will be part of the popular 'Night Of Thrills' event and a huge crowd is expected for this historical evening. It is believed that this will be the first time ever that Front Wheel Drive cars have been allowed to utilize wings in Figure 8 competition. Anderson Speedway is no stranger to Figure 8 racing as it contests the Nation’s oldest Figure 8 event each year with the running of the National Crown. It is only fitting that the IOFS will stage its first FWD event at Anderson. Several drivers from the Indianapolis and Anderson areas have expressed interest in participating and include: Andy Kellar, Elliott McKinney, Chad Sizemore, Nick Warner, Jess Holiday, Brian Dunn, Brian Cooper, John Greer, and Tony Hackney among others. The winner of this event will be able to stake claim to bragging rights as the first-ever IOFS FWD division winner. The IOFS FWD division will utilize all 2009 Anderson Speedway FWD Figure 8 rules including tire rule and payout. The lone exception will be the use of wings that are safely secured to the cars. A twenty-lap event is scheduled as this experimental event could lead to a handful of future IOFS FWD events to be announced in the near future. The IOFS Outlaw Figure 8 division will cap off the night with a fifty-lap event. Doug Greig enters the Anderson event the point’s leader through five events thus far in 2009. Greig will be looking to score his first-ever IOFS victory as well as leaving Anderson with a larger lead. Other notable drivers expected include: Eddie Van Meter, Chris Green, Jeff Hizer, Charlie Hargraves, Casey White, Nick Moore, Jeff Shackleford, Butch Winters, Corey Turner, Dane Laster, Richard Dickens, and Bob Knauss among others. The largest field of the year is expected for this event. This event is being considered the biggest Figure 8 event in the state this weekend. Saturday's schedule has pit gates opening at 4 PM, spectator gates at 5 PM, practice at 5 PM with racing to begin at 8 PM. Ticket prices for the event are Adults: $10, Kids 6 to 12: $4, Children 5 and under: free. Also on this racing program will be School Bus Figure 8's, Figure 8 Trailer races, and spectator races. In other IOFS news the series has announced that the IOF S will be sanctioning a West Coast tour through California in late October. A twin 100-lap event scheduled for October 24, 2009 at Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, CA is currently being finalized. A $25,000 guaranteed purse with $7500 to the winner will be paid for this historical event. IOFS officials are currently negotiating additional events at other speedways for this West Coast Tour. POSTED 7-4-09 TURN OR BURN MOTORSPORTS RECAP

The Turn or Burn Motorsports team has a great start to the July Fourth weekend. Fireworks lit up the sky and the air was cool, Josh Byrns started the Ken-Ten series Late Model race from inside the pole. Abruptly the No. 31 Southern Foods Chevy dropped back one position. As the race developed, Byrns found the tempo of the race and maintained the third position. On lap 12 the No. 31 Chevy slightly kissed the front stretch wall only leaving cosmetic damage. A yellow flag was produced on lap 25 slowing Byrns’ progress. Throughout the course of the next run, Byrns drove away from the field. Still in third position, Byrns trailed on the back bumper of the No. 14, getting a better run on Coble through turn two. On lap 36 the caution flew and suspended the Turn or Burn driver’s advancement. Byrns reported the car handled better on a longer run and the car was tight, it needed work before the next 50-lap race. For the remainder of the race the Southern F oods Chevy fell in line to finish in third position. Second Race-Beech Bend Raceway Park 50-Lap Due to an inverted field, the No. 31 Turn or Burn Motorsports team was forced to start the second 50-lap race at Beech Bend Raceway Park in the seventh position. A quick caution resulted from the No.5 car spinning in the middle of the track, gave Byrns the break he was looking for. A restart from the inside granted him a steal to the sixth position. The speed of the car was comparable to the front-runners, but positioning was hard to gain. On lap 12 the caution flag was displayed for a spin and hard impact on the back straight away. Byrns began working his way to the front gaining two positions. He held his line to finish the race in fourth position. Byrns will return to the seat of the No. 31 Turn or Burn Motorsports car July 18 at Riverview Speedway for the 100 lap Ken-Ten Late Model series fifth race in Carthage, TN. IOFS TO KICK OFF INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND FRIDAY The International Outlaw Figure 8 Series (IOFS) is set to kick off Independence weekend this Friday night at Anderson Speedway for round #3 on the 2009 schedule. A full program of events including qualifying and heats will be capped off by a 50 lap feature. Also on the racing program will be the ThunderCars and Front Wheel Drive oval divisions. A huge field is expected with current IOFS point leader and round #1 winner, Gary Bedell heading the list of expected entries. Also expected is defending Anderson 2008 IOFS winner Charlie Hargraves and Doug Greig who is currently second in the IOFS point standings. Greig has been by far the most consistent driver in the series to date with two runner-up finishes. Perhaps one of the most interesting entries expected is Christian Rayburn, who is the son of car builder and Late Model Legend CJ Rayburn.Rayburn is a name familiar with Anderson Speedway fans as well as Midwest Late Model fans. The elder Rayburn set a world qualifying record at Anderson Speedway on September 22, 1984 with a lap of 10.880 second around the .250 mile oval. Rayburn set the record in a winged Super Late Model and the record stood for thirteen years until Denny England lowered it to 10.678 with a winged sprint car in 1997. The younger Rayburn will be making his first asphalt start as well as Figure 8 start in a Jeff Shackleford owned car. Rayburn has spent the majority of his career up to this point running Dirt Late Model's throughout the Midwest. Seeing the Rayburn name associated with Anderson Speedway once again should bring back memories to many who were in attendance that cool fall night in 1984. Other expected entries include: Jeff Hizer, Chris Green, Jeff Shackleford, Johny Hargraves, Rodney Sizemore, Rich Fenwick, and Richard Dickens among others. Several Anderson Figure 8 drivers are expected to compete as well. A field of twenty-plus cars is expected. On July 3rd the pit gates will open at 4pm, practice at 5pm, qualifying at 6:30pm, and racing scheduled to begin at 8pm. Turn or Burn Motorsports makes their annual pit stop this Saturday, May 9th at the Mini Corvette Challenge. Local late-model stock car driver Josh Byrns and Baby Grand Champ Mary Daniels will be attending the event, along with Turn or Burn Motorsports Ministry Team. The drivers will be signing autographs from 10 am. to 2 p.m. The Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky will hold it’s 15th annual event this weekend at the Corvette Museum. The Mini Corvette Challenge is a community fundraiser to raise money for area programs and schools. Last year the event raised over $30,000. The event features area drivers from local businesses and organizations racing against each other in miniature corvettes. This year the event has signed 23 teams to compete for the cause and they are ready to make a roar.

IOFS SEASON OPENER POSTPONED May 2, 2009 - Indianapolis, IN - Kentucky Motor Speedway and International Outlaw Figure 8 Series ( IOFS )officials announced today that the season opener originally scheduled for Sunday May 3, 2009 has been postponed one week due to flooding in the Whitesville, KY area and a high probability for rain on Sunday. Series Director, Charlie Hargraves, explained why the event was postponed." KMS promoter Scott Greer, David Sink, and myself agreed this is in the best interest of the fans and drivers. The area is just flooded right now and there is even more rain in the area forecasted for today and tomorrow " explained Hargraves. " We will try it again next weekend as the weather looks more promising" concluded Hargraves. As it stands now the season opener will be next Sunday May 10, 2009 and everything will be the same in regards to the weekend format and starting times. The format for the rescheduled opening event calls for time trials, heat races, and a fifty lap feature on the 1/4 high banked speedway. KMS promoter, Scott Greer, has also announced there still will be an open practice on Saturday afternoon May 9th to get the teams acclimated to the speedway. On Sunday may 10, 2009 gates open at 12pm, practice at 1pm, qualifying at 3:30 pm, and racing will begin at 5pm. Greer has also said that the IOFS series will be the first events of the night to get fans and drivers on the road earlier.

POSTED 4-24-09 MMRA DRIVER IS ON FIRE FOR 2009

BOWLING GREEN, KY. Local Racer, Blake Isenburg #77 won at Beech Bend Raceway Park and then went to Riverview Raceway Park, Carthage, TN. Blake set on the pole with the fastest time of the night. The green flag dropped for the MMRA Baby Grand Pro Series and Blake walked away with yet another victory. Talking to his Dad, Eldon, and he said, " Blakes goal this year is to win the MMRA National Touring Series Points Championship." Eldon also added that they would be racing in KY,TN, AL, MO and Maybe OK and VA. I would like to take this time to wish Blake and his entire team good luck and we hope he gets that title and puts Bowling Green, KY on the map. Again, good luck in 2009!
