Ken-Ten Series KMS race # 9 9-27-09 Season Finale

Rain postponed the season finale 1 day with 19 cars on hand, we’ll take quality over quantity any day concerning the car count !! Sammy Sanders wins the AR Bodies fast time with a lap of 15:704,3/10’s separated 1^st thru 12^th ! Chad Willis was 2^nd,Josh Byrns 3^rd,Michael Driskell 4^th,Josh Brock 5^th and Kraig Hall was 6^th quick

Sammy draws a 4,Chad a 3,Josh Byrns a 5,Michael a 2,Josh Brock a 6 and local driver Kraig Hall draws the top spot to start the feature !!!

Kraig leads the first lap after getting a challenge from Michael and as they crossed the stripe its Kraig leading and Chad in 2^nd.By lap 9 Chad has erased the 4 car length lead of Kraig.

Lap 23 Chad takes over the lead from a fading Kraig Hall, it seems to be a brake issue with Kraigs car. Michael is 2^nd,Kraig 3^rd,Sammy 4th and Josh Brock rounds out the top 5.

Randy Pedley making his first start with us spins in turns 1 and 2 bringing out our first caution on lap 27.Chad is leading, Michael 2^nd,Sammy 3^rd,Josh Brock 4^th and Josh Byrns rounds out the top 5.

On the restart Chad gets a good start with Sammy Sanders taking 2^nd from Michael Driskell. is out again for the spinning car of Ryan Isaacs in only his 4^th late model start !

The 12 car of Gregg Carby pulls off the track on lap 31 after throwing the belts off!

Lap 49 caution for Larry Roberts spinning in turns 1 and 2.This is Larry's first start in over 4 years after running at KMS for several years. Chad is leading, Sammy 2^nd,Michael 3^rd Josh Brock 4^th and Brian Royalty rounds out the top 5.

Lap 49 restart we see another caution for the cars of Blake Hillard, Randy Pedley and Larry Roberts.

At the halfway point Chad is leading, Sammy is 2^nd,Josh Brock 3^rd Michael 4^th and Davey Coble rounds out the top 5.

Sammy Sanders takes the lead from Chad on lap 53 with Josh Brock in 3^rd.

Caution on lap 71 for the spinning car of Davey Coble with some help from Michael Driskell and both are sent to the tail! On the restart Sammy is leading with Josh Brock in second, Chad Willis is 3^rd,Mark Day 4^th and Mason Mingus rounding out the top 5.

The checkers are out, Sammy Sanders wins it and is the Ken-Ten Series Champion for 2009.Josh Brock crosses the line 2^nd and wraps up the DBV Properties Rookie of the Year award, Chad Willis is 3^rd and rookie Mason Mingus takes 4^th from Mark Day at the line!!

Josh Byrns was 6^th,Davey Coble 7^th,Brian Royalty 8^th,Michael Driskell 9^th and Hunter Willis earns the B & D Landscaping Hard Charger award, The Hitman moved from 18^th to finish 10^th.All 14 cars running at the finish where on the lead lap, Thanks to Scott and the whole KMS gang for a job well done !!

POSTED 9-21-09 LAST NIGHT RECAP, RUMORS, STORIES AND NEWS FROM THE LAST RACE OF 2009

(1.) SPORTSMAN CLASS: The only thing that I heard, and I heard it from a number of people in the pits was that #48 Anthony Russell was going to take the #99 Robert Cohron out during the race. I also heard many people in the pits say that Dallas Jones, Owner of Beech Bend Raceway told Anthony to leave the track. NOTE: Some one under anonymous posted that Anthony had a family emergency and had to leave. (2.) MODIFIED STREET CLASS: I heard all over the pits that #11 Matt Melton was going to take #11 Danny Marr out during the race. NOTE: Matt appeared to try that in turn one but failed and only hit the wall. Also I have seen posted on here that #11 Danny Marr was going to take out #44 Tony Rothe, However I never heard one word about that in the pits. And another thing, I never saw Danny try to take him out. Maybe I am wrong but I think someone is trying to tell a story on Danny. (3.) LATE MODEL CLASS: Never heard a thing about this class, not until the race was over. I have heard opinions siding with Sammy Sanders as to being ran over by Mark Oliver and I have heard others say that Mark got the position on Sammy and that Sammy cut back in on Mark. Also I heard others saying that Chad drove in over his head and almost wreck them all. Hey, I am friends with all these drivers and really think that all involved was driving maybe harder than normal because it was the last race of 2009. But what do I know, I just take the photos and write columns on this site. I am in no way an expert in stock car racing, and I know before you say it I will, AMEN to that. But I will say it was fun to watch. (4.) Front Runner Class: Didn't hear anything about this class. And I think it went fairly smooth. (5.) Front Runner Figure-8 Class: Heard nothing in the pits about this class except that some of the driver was protesting the #96 wing car (Out-of-Town car) because he had racing wheels. But nothing happen that I know of. (6.) ALL-AMERICAN BOMBER CLASS: I heard nothing before this race. But this class may have been the most wild one of the night. First Kenny Wells was not doing anything wrong that I seen and then from out of nowhere #29 takes #00 Kenny Wells out and it looked like it was on purpose. But hold on here comes Kenny wide open and hits him and spins the #29 and chases him out and off the track. Then #75 Jason Turner and #72 Stacey Key get into a pushing match and they both end up wrecking in turn four. Jason gets spun and Stacey continues on. Jason has a tire down but looks like he is going after #72 Stacey Key but can't get the car to drive and turn. By that time I think Jason had cooled down but I haven't talked to him so I may be putting words in his mouth. All I can say is I am glad he didn't run across the track and hit him that would be chicken in my opinion. Although I have used my car as a weapon before and it was wrong. I believe being a man and getting face the face. Anyway I don't think Jason or Stacey had any words after the race. Hold on that's not all. I was told that after the race #34 Jeff Farris, Sr. hit the back end of the #21 car of David Harrod and then David slammed his car in reverse and tore up the #34 and then that got out and had some words. So this class was crazy no doubt. Oh well last night of the season, what do you expect? All the others classes that raced had no problems that I am aware of. August 22, 2009 – Action was the word of the night at Highland Rim Speedway Saturday night. There was flat out fast high banked action, paint swapping, fender bending, racing in all ten classes. The rim Runners started things with a first lap spin that involved nearly the entire field forcing a complete restart. Everyone was able to continue on. Bevin Wilson and fast time winner, Donold Webb had a hard run going for the first five laps before Webb was able to stretch out into the lead. Wilson stuck right on Webb’s bumper with Christopher York on Wilson ’s. The trio ran nose to tail until they crossed up coming across the start finish line on lap 10. Webb slammed hard into the outside wall, hitting so hard that his helmet flew off. Webb was shaken and sore but his car was done. Points leader, Phillip Bilyeu snatched the lead on the restart leaving York to chase him to the checkers. The win was the third of the year for Bilyeu. York was less than a car length back for second. Wilson came in third with Kevin Figueroa and James Vaughn rounding out the top five.

The Rim’s newest class, Vintage Mini 1000 also started with a lap one spin when the leader looped it. On the restart, Michael Wood got the jump on Matt Reed and checked out on the pack. A couple of laps later, Jeffery Smith made his way to the second spot and began looking for the leader. The race was a fast one with no other cautions. Wood lapped every other car on the track except Smith by the time he crossed the finish line. Smith was second with Mike Reed finishing third. Fourth was Matt Reed followed by Bruce Davidson for fifth.

The Front Wheel Drive Modifieds had an awesome near miss on the first lap as they went into turns one and two. Several cars tried to go for the same piece of track at the same time but all were able to gather their cars back up and continue going until a car bounced off the wall coming out of turn four bringing out the caution to remove his damaged car. Jerry Nuckols took the lead from David Frost on lap eight. Two laps later the caution flew again for a stalled car. It took three attempts to get the race restarted from the caution. Once it got back underway, Dustin Goodwin put his nose under Nuckols for the lead. Goodwin wasted no time opening up some track between himself and the others. Nuckols managed to pull up on Goodwin in the final laps of the race but couldn’t take the top spot back. Goodwin won the race with Nuckols coming home second. Sam Arnold, Paul Lambert, and Kasey Williams had a three way battle going on for a lap in the final laps of the race. Arnold pulled ahead and battled with Scott Allen for third. Arnold got the position when Allen slowed on the last lap of the race. Lambert was fourth with Williams taking fifth place. Allen’s brakes had been sparking the last few laps of the race and caught fire after the race. Track officials quickly put out the flames on the car.

Toby Tobitt launched himself out front at the wave of the green flag in the Challenger class. Billy Schaffer had his hands full with a loose racecar as he chased Tobitt around the high banks. Schaffer tried a last lap, last ditch run on Tobitt coming out of turn four for the checkers. Schaffer fell short with Tobitt taking home the trophy. Schaffer settled for second. Third place, a lap down was Kevin Gregory. Fast Time Winner, Jamie VanEtten had mechanical problems on lap 11 but came home fourth. Fifth place went to Kenny Newsom, Jr. driving a borrowed car to keep up his points.

A spin across the starting line slowed the Vintage Mini 600 race. Once they got going, Chad Locke rolled out into the lead. A restart after a caution on lap five allowed mike Reed to get the jump on Locke for the top spot until Reed looped it on lap nine bringing out another yellow. Jeffery Smith was all over Reed on the restart as Freddy Prosser, Jr moved into the play. By lap 16, Prosser challenged for the lead. Prosser showed his sportsmanship two laps later when he dropped down to help a stalled car off the track under caution. On the restart, Prosser shot himself out front leaving everyone to chase him. Prosser was the victor with Smith coming away second. Mike Reed was third while Troy Taylor took the fourth spot. Locke ended his night in the fifth slot.

The Fitzgerald name is not a new one in the truck class though it has been a while since there’s been a Fitzgerald running in the Pro Trucks. Jerry Fitzgerald, Jr. set fast time and led every single lap of the race. Chuck Adkins got the break he was looking for when Bobby Wingo spun out of turn two with just three laps to go. The restart allowed Adkins to stay with Fitzgerald, but it wasn’t enough to allow him to take the lead. Fitzgerald won the race with Adkins finishing a truck length back for second. Roger Cunningham got a little loose on the final restart but managed to hold off the hard charges of James Baggett, Jr. for third. Taylor Woelk got the bugs worked out of his truck from last week to finish fifth.

Third time was the charm in the Super Stocks. The first attempt to start was waved off by the flagman as a bad start. The second attempt ended when Travis Smith and Spurt Goddard got together in turns three and four. As they tangled, they swept up into Tink Jackson turning his car greasy side up. All of the drivers were able to walk away. One track official got his arm cut on one of the cars when he slipped in some of the fluid running down the track. Jackson and Goddard were done for the night. Smith was able to rip the passenger side off his car and continue on. Roger Birdsong, Jr. led the first several laps with Smith and Danny Johnson battling just behind him. The pair got together bouncing off of each other going into turn three. Points leader, Daniel Barnes tried to get around them and ended up in the wall in turn three along with Johnson. Both drivers were done for the night. After a lengthy clean up, Smith challenged Birdsong for the lead. The pair ran three laps side by side before Smith took over the top spot. Mechanical problems forced Birdsong in with nine laps to go. Smith took it all the way to victory lane by a half track over Lance Steele. Willie Coats had some mechanical problems early in the race, even going down into the lower pit area during the caution but managed to come back to finish in the third position. Birdsong and Johnson were fourth and fifth respectively.

It took Thomas Pannell less than a lap to go from last to first in the Sportsman race. The only caution came for debris on the track on lap five. Pannell won the race by a full straight away over Jonathan Wilhite. Matt Goodwin came in third. Kevin LaMastus was fourth with Rusty McKee finishing fifth.

The Late Models had a strong field of cars. The first caution came on lap 3 when Zach Evans spun. Bennie Hamlett was extremely loose but managed to keep the car under control. The next caution came on lap 11 when Wayne White and Evans got together going into turn one. Hamlett was all over leader, Scott Gay on the restart. The pair pulled away into their own race. On lap 18, the pair touched with Gay going spinning in turn four. Gary Love, Jr. inherited the lead. Evans stuck right with Love on the restart. Evans and Hamlett had an incident with just two laps to go. The incident left Evans parked but Hamlett was able to continue the race. Love held onto the top spot in the two lap shoot out to the checkers. Sam Willard came home second followed by Gay. Hamlett was fourth while James Willard was posted in the fifth place. Love’s win was extra special to him as this was the first race he had been able to make all season. A friend helped Love to get the car finished so that he could make the race.

The Taxi Cab start was a little hung up when Bruce Johnson, Kenny Newsom, and Charles Pruett hung bumpers going down the back stretch on the first lap of the race. Johnson had been on the pole with Newsom just behind him, as they pushed around the track, their bumpers hung heading them to the wall. Once they got separated and the race got underway, Johnson jumped out front. Tink Jackson used his chrome horn on Johnson a couple of times before he and Bill Benson tried to split Johnson for the lead. Benson ended up with a popped tire. Eugene Anderson nosed out front on the restart. Anderson held the top spot in a race all by himself as Jackson and Michael Oldham ran side by side for second. Jackson finally pulled ahead of Oldham with just a handful of laps to go. Oldham tried one last ditch effort to get Jackson at the line. Anderson won the race with Jackson taking second by a fender. Third place was Oldham . Eugene Holt crossed the line for fourth with Pruett coming home fifth.

Highland Rim Speedway Race Recap August 15, 2009 – It was a night of extreme racing action at Highland Rim Speedway on Saturday night. With 10 classes running, there was something for everyone! The Vintage Mini’s made their first appearance at the Rim with two feature races. The Vintage Mini’s are scaled race cars. The class is based out of Shelbyville , TN and was thrilled to be on the Rim’s high banks! Freddie Prosser, Jr. won his race in the 600 series. Prosser leaped out front early leaving the rest to be sorted out behind him. Prosser won the race with a half track advantage over the rest of the pack. Mike Reed, Fast Time Winner, Jeffrey Smith, and Troy Taylor had a close race all night as they jockeyed for the second spot. Reed took second with Smith inches from his bumper for third. Taylor faded at the end but still pulled off a fourth place finish. Fifth place went to Chad Locke. The Front Wheel Drive Modifieds and Rim Runner classes combined for a 40 lap shoot out sponsored by Shawn Jackson of Jackson Automotive. The winner of the race stood to win $300 for the race. The race ended up being a two in one race – each class had their own race within the race as well. The race was only slowed by a couple of cautions for minor incidents. One incident earned Paul Lambert a good sportsmanship nod as he pulled in behind the failed car of Justin Dickens to help him around into the pits after Dickens bounced off the outside wall coming out of turn four. Jerry Nuckols won the race in grand style. Nuckols was in a race all by himself beating Fast Time Winner, Dustin Goodwin by a full half track advantage! Harold Cole had a great run, coming away in third place. The race will be Cole’s last for a while as he will undergo Chemotherapy treatments starting this week for cancer. Bevin Wilson was fourth followed by Phillip Bilyeu for fifth. Wilson and Bilyeu are both Rim Runner cars. In the Vintage Minis 1000 race, Jeffery Smith was the man to beat. Smith launched himself into the top spot and never looked back. Only one caution slowed the race on lap six when another competitor spun in turn four. Smith put a lap on the third place car as he came down to take the checkers. Six car lengths back was Troy Taylor, the only other car on the lead lap for second. Third was Alan Sawyer. Matt and Mike Reed were fourth and fifth respectively. The Challenger race ran caution free. Fast Time Winner, Billy Schaffer took six laps to get around early race leader, Jason Baker for the lead. The pair had a great run going for those six laps. Neither was willing to give the other an inch. Schaffer finally took the top spot holding just out of Baker’s reach. Baker spent the rest of the race with Toby Tobitt on his bumper. Tobitt ran at Nashville earlier and made it up to the Rim just in time to race the feature. Schaffer took the trophy with Baker’s ride rolling home second. Tobitt was third. Kenny Newsom was posted as fourth place finisher. The Pro Truck race appeared to be a mix match race when it started. Seven trucks, two Challenger cars, and a Rim Runner car lined up to compete. The Rim Runner car was being commandeered by Taylor Woelk. Woelk had problems on his truck earlier in the day and borrowed the car to ride a couple laps to keep his points up. The Challengers, Billy Schaffer and Toby Tobitt just wanted to be able to race a bit more! Fast Time Winner Zach Evans grabbed the lead early. Just past the halfway point, Chuck Adkins caught Evans and began to challenge for the lead. Evans held strong but Adkins never gave up. With four laps to go, he tried to make another run on Evans but got a little loose in the corner. Adkins was able to gather it back up and keep going as Evans pulled away. Adkins caught Evans again on the final lap. Evans won the race by a fender. Roger Cunningham was the only other truck on the lead lap finishing third. Richard Hamilton and Doug Colbert were fourth and fifth respectively. The Super Stock race had a first time winner in it. Danny Johnson not only set the fast time of the night but he also won the race! Johnson has not run a full season but has been a strong contender each week that he has raced. Johnson took the top spot on lap six and began to open some track between himself and Daniel Barnes. The race was halted when the cars of Mike Forsythe and Bubba Turner got together coming out of turn four. Both had heavy damage. Turner slammed into the pit wall hard as he tried to enter pit road at near full speed. Tempers flared but neither driver seemed to be injured from the original incident. Back underway, Johnson rolled on to victory with Barnes finishing about five car lengths back for second. Travis Smith was third with Lance Steele finishing fourth. Roger Birdsong, Jr. had some early race mechanical problems but was able to come back out to finish fifth. During the post race interviews, Barnes showed true sportsmanship as he congratulated Johnson on the win and noted both driver’s hard work and dedication through the week on their cars. Matt Goodwin earned his first victory of the season in the Sportsman race. Goodwin jumped out front with the wave of the green flag and never gave it up. Fast Time Winner, Thomas Pannell and Tim Ezell had a hard race going for several laps. Both drivers were giving it everything that they had. On lap 17, the pair touched and Ezell’s car shot out towards the wall. Ezell held it just missing the wall as Goodwin rolled on. On the restart, another car looped it forcing an immediate caution. Goodwin, Ezell, and Jonathan Wilhite were nose to tail on the restart and all the way to the stripe. Goodwin nosed up to the front straight away wall for a royal burn out to celebrate his victory. Ezell and Wilhite were second and third. Ricky Goins was fourth with Thomas Pannell being posted in the fifth place. The Open Wheel race started out as a battle of Father and Son. Timmy Gay led the way for his dad Scott for the first couple of laps before the pair got together in turn four on lap two. Dad’s night was done, but Timmy was able to continue on. On the restart, Frankie Martin inherited the lead. Martin led the remainder of the race taking home the trophy. Martin has not competed at the Rim in several years. The win was a great way to mark his return to the high banked track. Timmy Gay came in second with Bradley Arms finishing third in the number 3 car. Scott Gay was credited the fourth place after being involved in the lap 2 jumble with his son. Michael Maynard lead early in the Taxi race. Charles Pruett, Jim Bork, and Tink Jackson had a tight race going just behind Maynard for second. Maynard got a bit loose on lap four letting Bork pull out into the top spot. Two laps later the yellow flew. Bork held the top spot on the restart as Jackson and Michael Oldham battled for second. As the laps ticked off, Jackson gobbled up Bork’s lead. Bork won the race by a car over Jackson . Oldham held on for third. Kenny Newsom. Sr. finished fourth with Willie Coats driving away in fifth place. This Saturday night August 22nd, will Poker Night at the Rim with a full night of racing excitement including the newest class of Vintage Mini’s. POSTED 8-16-09 KEN-TEN RACE 7 NASHVILLE FAIRGROUNDS RECAP

Ken-Ten Series race # 7 Fairgrounds Speedway (Nashville) 8-15-09 We had 23 cars on hand, Chase Oliver breaks something in the RF during practice and hits the turn 1 wall. Out of the 22 cars, Sammy Sanders blisters the track with a 18:979 earning him the AR Bodies Fast Time Award! Local hot shoe Mark Day was 2nd with a 19:469,Clay Alexander making his first start with us was 3rd with 19:603,Jimmy Victory was 4th with a 19:685,Davey Coble was 5th with a 19:765 and rounding out the top six was Daniel Bolden with a 19:775 in only his 2nd late model start. Daniel has been running the truck division last several years and has 4 wins so far in 09. The Ken-Ten Series has a complete redraw of the top 6 spots. Sammy pulls a 1,Mark a 2 ,Clay a 3,Jimmy a 5,Davey a 4 and Daniel gets a 6 for the start of the 125 lap feature. We would run 75 laps, stop for a 10 minute break for adjustments with NO tires and finish with a 50 lap shootout !!At the end of 75 laps the top 6 would redraw again for the start of the last 50 lap segment. We’re here to put a show for the fans and they got their monies worth tonight!!! Mark Day gets the jump on the start of the race and caution flies for the 7 car of Tony Ussery after contact from the 5 of Blake Hillard. Marty Taylor has nowhere to go and slides into the 7 car ending his night! We’re back to green on lap 8 with Mark leading till lap 9 and Sammy takes over the point till lap 29.At lap 30 Mark regains the lead till lap 38 caution for some kids up next to the fence out of turn 4 on the grandstand side of the wall !!! Mark is leading, Sammy is 2nd,Clay is 3rd,Jimmy is 4th and DBV Properties Rookie contender Mason Mingus is 5th and looking pretty sporty!! We have a new leader on lap 46,Sammy regains the lead from Mark !! Lap 48 caution flies for the 98b car of Bobby Buttrey who makes some hard contact with the backstretch wall, he made have had some help!! The top 8 are Sammy, Mark, Jimmy, Clay, Mason, Davey Coble ,Daniel Bolden, and Bennie Hamlett. On the 55th lap, we have a new leader, Mark takes it and holds it till lap 69 when Mark falls off the pace and Sammy regains it again !! Sammy leads us to the 75 lap break with Clay 2nd,Mason 3rd,Jimmy 4th,Mark 5th and Davey 6th. Sammy draws a one, Davey a two, Clay a three, Mason a four, Jimmy a five and Mark a six. The guys could change anything but not bolt on fresh tires !! This was going to be a tire management race and the last 50 laps was going to be a show. After the first 75 laps it was a set on the edge of your seat race anyway, how would the next 50 play out !!! The cars rolled off with the exception of Mark Day who had a gas pedal break at the foot box!!! The only car who could possibly run with Sammy was out of it !!! Everyone was thinking it would be Sammy taking the checkers, on the restart of the race Davey Coble jumps out and leads till lap 83.Sammy shows his muscle and takes over the lead, with Mason Mingus almost loosing it out of 4 and holds onto it just dropping a few spots. Lap 93 caution flies for our 4th and 5th place runners, Mason is hard into the backstretch wall along with Jimmy. Mason is done for the night ending a great run for the 14 year old rookie! Jimmy is able to continue racing. Sammy is 1st,Clay 2nd,Davey 3rd,Daniel Bolden 4th,Bennie Hamlett 5th and Michael Driskell is 6th after changing a motor in practice, missing qualifying and starting shotgun on the field !! You have to give the 7d crew a shout out for all that work boys ,it was hot and they could have loaded up and went to the shop Thanks guys !! The caution flies again on lap 108 for the cars of Michael Driskell and Bennie Hamlett. Sammy leads Clay 2nd,Davey 3rd,Daniel Bolden 4th and Stacy Crain local star in the truck division making his first start with us in 5th.Josh Brock is in 6th after getting the luck dog pass early in the race !! On the restart at lap 113,Clay gets the jump on Sammy and is looking good for the win !! Clay has saved his tires and is on the bottom of the track in 3 and 4!! Sammy is dogging him every lap searching for a way around him for the next 9 laps !!! On lap 121 Sammy gets into Clay in turns 1 and 2 sending Clay into a spin. Clay is able to continued but under Ken-Ten rules both cars go to the tail ending both of their nights for a win !! The 09 of Daniel Bolden is our new leader, with Josh Brock in 2nd and a slowing Davey Coble 3rd.Stacy Crain is 4th and Blake Hillard is in 5th after going to the tail from a earlier incident!! Fairgrounds rules are the last 5 laps must be green with one shot at a green, white,checkers Lap 125 restart had the car of Davey Coble slowing even more and pulling off with a motor problem on lap 128 !! At the checkers on lap 130 Daniel Bolden gets the win, Josh Brock is 2nd,Stacy Crain 3rd,Blake Hillard 4th,Bennie Hamlett 5th and Brian Royalty in 6th,the only racer to have finished in the top 10 in all of our races!!! Congrats to Daniel Bolden and his whole crew on a job well done and to all of you racers who showed up to put on a GREAT SHOW !!!! Thanks to Danny and his whole staff at The Fairgrounds Speedway. POSTED 8-9-09 BEECH BEND RACEWAY STOCK CAR RACES RECAP FRIDAY 8-7-09

Hello race fans! Friday night stock car races and a full moon? Let's start with the first race of the night. The Sportsman Class once again had a good field of cars with nine taking the green flag. Once the green flag was dropped the battle was on. Flagman, K.P. Payne had the green flag in one hand and the yellow in the other. With only a few laps made we saw the #28 of Daymond Long take a scary ride down the back stretch coming to a rest against the wall in turn three. I believe the #00 and another car or two got some damage in this wreck. That forces the #28 car of Long to the pits, returning later. That was not the end to the wild racing. Going into turn three, the #6 of William Johnson, #9 Jason Floyd and #44 Phillip Akin pile up. If you go to my photo site you can see #44 Phillip Akin almost turn over as his car gets up on two wheels. One photo shows William Johnson #6 with his right rear tire and wheel in the air. Finally the race gets started back and William Johnson #6 claims his first win of 2009. I didn't see these two accidents completely if you did please post your views. The Modified Street Class. This class needs more cars. In my opinion, I wouldn't build a car for 2010 unless it was legal for sportman class. Let me clear this up, I have NOT hear this from Beech Bend Raceway or it's officials. This is strictly my opinion. With that being said, Rita Cline and Matt Melton started on the front row but was quickly over taken by Tony Rothe #44. Tony seem to have this race in the bag when in turn one smoke poured from his machine bringing out the yellow flag. The restart found Matt Melton leading the race with #11 Danny Marr chasing him. It took Marr several laps as Melton put up a good fight for the lead. In the end Marr claims the win. The Late Model Class. How do I start this story? The car count was great with 13 cars taking the green flag. I for one am glad to have all these great drivers. It is most pleasurable to have non-regulars to visit us at BBR. Drivers such as #22 Mike Barrett, #8 Dustin Arms and #14 Davey Coble. This race may have been the best of the night. Points leader #12 Sammy Sanders couldn't get to the front as he started in the rear. Bo Miller #38 a donate driver at BBR couldn't get through the traffic either. Visitor #22 Mike Barrett had some adjusting during practice and did a better job in the race, but couldn't get the handle. This left the car that start up front #99 Chad Willis jumping out in the lead and not looking back. However, Chad had to feel the heat from visiting driver #14 Davey Coble. I was in turn four on the wall and could hear a car that sound like it was on 7 cylinders, I think it was #12 Sammy Sanders or #38 Bo Miller. Now for The Front Runner Class. Talking car count, this class had 17 cars take the green flag. This race was a battle with #23 Tommy Hoover, Paul Cummings and then Steve Vincent and Curtis Bulter coming into the battle. Where you a little confused with the winner? Yes, you were right it was a Cummings winning but not the usually Mark Cummings. It was his brother that doesn't race every week at BBR winning. Paul Cummings collects this win. There were some disagreements between driver #8c and track officials Gary Dalton and Bobby White before the race started. It was said that Butler while appearing on the local radio show of Spivey Williams and Smokin Joe quoted the track officials as to telling him NOT to bring his car back to BBR. The track officials said they didn't say that. Anyway, Butler was back but in another car and the car that Butler normally drives was bought by Steve Vincent which had a #6 on it. What a mess! Please comment on this if you have anything to share. The All American Bomber Class. This class had eight cars. David Harrod #21 won this race with ease. Points leader #75 Jason Turner had second but felt the pressure of Kenny Wells and drove off into turn three way too wide leaving Wells all kinds of room to make to pass. Wells never looked back and finished second. Eighth place finisher #7 Henry Belcher, Jr. took a wild ride spinning into the infield. The Front Runner Figure-8 Class. Did you see what I saw? Curtis Butler in the #8c flying through the field and taking the lead away from Mark Cummings and then driving that car hard into the turns. But hold on! I went to take the winning photo of Curtis and guess what? It wasn't Curtis. It was young driver, Dakota Gibson #5. Apparently Dakota had just bought this car from Cutris only minutes before the race. What a move Dakota. I think someone may want to look at putting this kid in a sportsman or late model car. Ken-Ten Series Race #6 Corbin Speedway 8-1-09 American Mortgage Lenders 100 We had 18 cars on hand for our first race at Corbin, it was a wild ending to say the least!! Mike Bargo set fast time with a 13:702 and won the AR Bodies fast time award which was a carb airbox.This new airbox from Jerry is the stuff, it makes more hp than the other ones on the market!!!Top six fastest redraw for their starting spots. Mike Masters making his first start with the series qualified 5th and drew the pole, Davey Coble qualified 3rd and drew 2nd,Mike Bargo drew 3rd starting spot. Josh Byrns qualified 6th and drew 4th,Brian Royalty started 5th after qualifying 4th and Robbie Brown started 6th after qualifying 2nd. The 12 car of Sammy Sanders and the 5x of Russell Smith where too low, we have a 3” inch ride height rule that has been enforced all year. We have thrown out several guys during the year but more on that later in the week. The 12 and 5x had to start on the tail. Chad Willis broke a trailing arm mount during practice and jumped into the #9 car of Hunter Willis. The race start was set for 9:00 and at 9:05 they started their warm up laps, one of the local racers got into the 17 car of DBV Properties Rookie of the Year leader Josh Brock. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the night!!!At 9:30 and 3 complete restarts we finally got to run 6 green flag laps!!At the caution Mike Masters was leading, Mike Bargo 2nd,Davey Coble 3rd,Brian Royalty 4th and Robbie Brown rounded out the top 5.On the restart next time by Mike Bargo grabs the lead going down the front stretch with Mike Masters in 2nd.Lap 8 caution for the spinning car of Robbie Brown down the front stretch. Mike Bargo still leads followed by Mike Masters in 2nd,Davey Coble 3rd,Brian Royalty 4th and Josh Brock in 5th. Lap 9 Davey Coble takes over 2nd place with Mike Masters slowly backing up down the running order and on lap10 he spun in 3 and 4.Lap 16 Mike Bargo is leading and clicking off some 13:80’s and on lap 19 contact between Robbie Brown and Eric Centers on the backstretch brings out yet another caution!!Mike Bargo is leading, Davey 2nd,Brian 3rd,rookie Mason Mingus up to 4th,Josh Brock 5th,Marty Taylor 6th,Chad Willis 7th ,Sammy Sanders 8th,Jason Jones 9th and Josh Byrns rounding out the top 10. On the restart Davey Coble is the new leader, lap 23 Davey was running 14:00’s while leading, lap 30 caution flys for the spinning car of Robbie Brown on the backstretch. The top 5 are Davey Coble, Mike Bargo, Mason Mingus, Josh Brock and Sammy Sanders in 5th.Around lap 39 it started to drizzle, Davey is leading with a lot of pressure from Mason Mingus and on lap 44 caution flew for Mason getting into Davey in turn 1 and 2 collecting Mike Bargo and Sammy Sanders. Mike headed to the pits and Sammy had to be towed off the track!!Davey and Mason where sent to the tail for the restart. In the meantime it starting raining heavier, we elected to keep the cars out on the track to help keep the track dry in their running order. The radar showed a slim chance of getting the race to lap 50 which would have been official! In the Ken-Ten Series we don’t count caution laps, we’re on lap 44 with the expectations of getting the race in!!Some of the racers got their cars fixed and some on the tail chose to pit for fuel! We stopped the cars on the backstretch to allow them to add fuel, we lost the track to the rain and pulled them to the infield. After asking some of the racers their thoughts on the race, come back in September to finish this race on the 5th and then run our other scheduled 100 lapper. Come back next weekend and finish it, all 17 cars divide the purse equally. It was going to rain Sunday so that wasn’t going to work. John and I both agreed to call the race the way they where lined up on the track, we had every intention to go back green. John didn’t have to do that, his fans in the stands and his sponsor got the short end of that stick!! Rookie Josh Brock wins his first Ken-Ten Series race, Jason Jones 2nd,Josh Byrns 3rd,Robbie Brown 4th and Chad Willis rounding out the top 5.Somebody had to make a decision guys, there where several things that went wrong and shouldn’t have that effected this outcome, more on that later in the week!!

POSTED 7-29-09 RECAP OF FRIDAY NIGHT STOCK CAR RACES AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY PARK

Hello race fans! I will try to share a recap of the races by divisions. Let's start with the Front Runner Figure-8 Class. The points leader #32 Mark Cummings finished fifth, second in points #41 Jeff Hogan comes in second. The biggest story in my opinion was first time winner #5A Dakota Gibson. I didn't see anything in this race that needs to be discussed. Moving along to the All American Bomber Class. This class was crazy two weeks ago. I am happy to report that all drivers drove a really good race. The only thing that I saw was my son #75 Jason Turner gave #72 Stacey Key a shot to the rear on the start of the race and caused Stacey to go toward the wall. I ask Jason after the race what he was thinking and he said that he gave his car the throttle as he always does and that he didn't know what happen. He said Stacey was normally gone and that he thought Stacey's car hesitated or something happened. Jason said that you know I would not wreck my car on purpose. He also said that he talked to Stacey after the race and told him he didn't mean to hit him like that. Jason Turner #75 is the points leader and finished second, Darrell Alford #17 second in points finishing third. Now for the Front Runner Class. Points Leader #8c Curtis Butler wins again, second in points #23 Tommy Hoover comes in third. I didn't see anything that was a big news story except the #4 of Steve Schultz was all over the track sideways and hit several cars. This guy is wild and something to watch. One more thing, when will someone get tired of Curtis winning all the races and put the money on him? I personally don't care but just think these guys need to get in the billfold and fix their cars or put the money on him. Now for the Late Model Class. He's BACK!!!!! Bo Miller is back at Beech Bend Raceway and back in the winners circle. Points leader #12 Sammy Sanders finishes second and second in points #25 Mark Oliver comes in third. But #38 Bo Miller wins the race. I will have to say it was a great race and Sammy drove the wheels off his car, putting the bumper to Bo Miller on the last lap and pushing all the way to the flagman stand. Both drivers in my opinion are pros. Before I forget, I must say that #2 with driver Danny Smith lead the most laps but in my opinion saw too much of Bo Miller in his rear mirror and spun out going into turn three giving up the lead. I think Danny will be in the winners circle before the year is over. This next class is having real trouble with car count. In practice #11 driven by Smiths Grove's very own Danny "The Grove Rat" Marr spun out in the middle of turn three and four. Then #44 Tony Rothe comes into turn three and hits Danny. Tony said he didn't see Danny until it was too late because of the sun in his eyes. Danny thinks Tony had time to get his car stopped. Tony got his car repaired but Danny didn't. The Points leader is #44 Tony Rothe and won the race, #11M Matt Melton taking over second in points by only 5 points over #11 Danny Marr. Melton finished fourth. Now for the Sportsman class. This class was just about to be dropped because of a lack of cars. In tonight's race we had nine cars. Points leader #44 Phillip Akin in the Miller Lite car was the winner. Second place in points is #99 Robert Cohron finishing third. Robert is only FOUR POINTS behind Phillip. I have gotten several emails and Anthony's wife made a post about this next deal ( Posted 7-20-09 Top Eight Sportsman). The sportsman race saw #28 driven by Daymond Long in the Budweiser car and #48 driven by Anthony Russell in the WSM prepared car have a spin. I was looking through my view finder of my camera in turn three and four and did not see what happened. I have been hearing a lot of talk about both drivers not happy with each other. I know you are going to say, here you go stirring the pot. No, just reporting the races and if the pot gets stirred it will be you all. Ken-Ten Series race # 5 Riverview Speedway 7-18-09 Racing for the Kids of St. Jude 100 His last name says it all Victory, Local hot shoe Jimmy Victory sets AR Bodies Fast Time and after the draw(top 6 fastest draw for their starting spots) Jimmy pulls out the # 1 spot! Sammy Sanders starts 2nd after qualifying 5th,Davey Coble 3rd after timing in at 3rd quick.DBV Properties Rookie contender Josh Brock qualified 2nd and started 4th.Local favorite Zach Taylor currently Tim Steeles driver in the CRA Series was on hand driving his family owned car, he qualified 4th and started 5th.Brian Royalty timed in at 6th and started 6th,that rounds out the top 6. Michael Driskell started 7th,Josh Byrns 8th,Mason Mingus another one of our DBV Properties Rookie rookie contender 9th,Gregg Carby 10th. James The King Climer qualified 11th,David Guenther 12th,Marty Taylor 13th,Bennie Hamlett driving the #00 of Tommy Climer was 14th,Adam Wright 15th and Ben McFarland 16th. We had just 16 cars on hand, but I would have to say it was the best race of the season for the Ken-Ten Series. The pole was a 10:792 and 15th quick had a time of 11:383.So far this season we’ve had 47 cars run with us!! On the start of the race, Jimmy Victory driving the 18 car of Tracy Wix slips a little out of turn 2 washing up the track in front of Sammy Sanders, this allowed Davey Coble to take the lead down the backstretch. Davey held onto the lead till lap 16,Jimmy had made a great save on the start and took over the lead on lap 17.Our first caution came on lap 26 for both 98 cars of Mason Mingus and Zach Taylor who where running in the top 5 at the time.RVS officials ruled it a racing incident, Mason gets his spot back and Zach who came into the pits restarted on the tail. A few laps before this action Davey Coble who had a strong run going in 2nd got super loose, headed to the pits under this caution for some adjustments!! On the restart Jimmy is the leader, Sammy 2nd,Michael Driskell 3rd and Mason 4th.Lap 32 caution for the car of James The King Climer hard into the outside wall in turn 3 after some contact in the left rear. James gets the AR Bodies Hard Luck award for the race. Our top 8 eight at the time where, Jimmy leading, Sammy 2nd,Michael 3rd,Josh Brock 4th,Brian Royalty 5th,Mason 6th,Josh Byrns 7th and Bennie Hamlett 8th Lap 50 we still had Jimmy leading, Sammy 2nd,Josh Brock,3rd Brian 4th and Josh Byrns 5th.We had just 2 cautions on the nations fastest ¼ mile track and at the checkers Jimmy Victory gets the win!!DBV Properties Rookie of the race Josh Brock was 2nd after putting a move on Sammy during the 68 lap green flag action. Sammy was 3rd,Brian 4th and Josh Byrns 5th Rounding out the top 10,Benny Hamlett 6th,Mason Mingus 7th last car on the lead lap! Michael Driskell 8th,Zach Taylor 9th and in 10th Gregg Carby. The racers who did show up to put on a great show and drove each other with respect, you guys deserve a that a boy for that. The ones who didn’t show missed a GREAT show, 2 cautions guys, that says it all. The only knock I had was the late start which will be addressed next year when we go back and the lapped cars at the end of the race, guys the shoe will be on the other foot some time!! Respect the leaders and move over, that very well could have affected the outcome of the race. Jimmy did a great job getting thru that mess, He and Tracy will be running with us more this year, a lot of smiles after the races especially in the payout line! Big hats off to the sponsors for your help on the race and for the help with the series. Ken-Ten Series race # 4 recap Beech Bend twin 50’s 7-3-09 It was the Sammy Sanders show again; Sammy set AR Bodies fast time with a 15:687 out of 17 cars. The racers are glad to get out of is home area for the next 4 races! The first 50 lapper was started straight up, on the first start the car of Kevin Willis went spinning, another complete restart. The next start was good with Sammy in 1st, Davey Coble 2nd,Josh Byrns 3rd,Michael Driskell 4th and Chris Harmon rounding out the top 5.Caution on lap 25 for the spinning car of DBV Properties Rookie contender Mason Mingus.Sammy 1st,Davey Coble 2nd,Josh Byrns 3rd,Michael Driskell 4th and Brian Cherry rounding out the top 5. On the double file restart Brian Cherry made a 3 wide move off of turn 2 with Michael Driskell being the meat and Chris Harmon on the outside, both Chris’s and Michael’s car where able to drive off but needed some major work! Sammy is leading, Davey 2nd, Josh 3rd,Brian 4th and Bo Miller making his first late model start of the year rounds out the top 5. Yellow flies again, Mark Oliver spins in turn 2,top 5 hasn’t changed. lap 46 Bo Miller drops off the pace but stays on the lead lap, playing the invert!! Sammy wins his 4th in a row running laps of 16: teens during the race!! Davey along with Josh Byrns have their best runs of the year Davey finishes 2nd and Josh 3rd, Brian in 4th and DBV Properties Rookie of the race Josh Brock in 5th that’s your top 5 for the first 50. We had 15 cars start the 2nd 50, with Bo on the pole and Marty Taylor outside. Brian Royalty 3rd,Brian Cherry 4th.Caution on lap 5 ,Bo is the leader, Brian Royalty 2nd,Josh Brock 3rd,Brian Cherry 4th and Davey Coble 5th.On the restart the 53 car of Marty Taylor, the 121 car of Dennis White and the 66 car of Kevin Willis make contact with Kevin hard into the backstretch wall ending him for the night! Lap 18 the 7D car of Michael Driskell to the pits with overheating problems. Lap 29 we have a new leader, Sammy Sanders running some 16:03’s laps. At the checkers its Sammy Sanders,Bo Miller runs 2nd,Brian Royalty 3rd,Josh Byrns 4th and Davey Coble rounding out the top 5. Josh Brock 6th, Marty Taylor 7th,Dennis White 8th,Tommy Lawrence 9th and Chad Willis driving The Hitmans car was 10th.

POSTED 6-29-09 HIGHLAND RIM RACE RECAP

Highland Rim Speedway Race Recap June 27, 2009 – It was sweltering hot Saturday night at Highland Rim Speedway. An afternoon rain shower pushed the action off by about half an hour but did nothing for the heat! The Shriner Clown cars were the official pace car of the night and the clowns put on a show during intermission thrilling the crowds. But the real action was on the track. Lucky Sevens night meant that each race ended in a 7 – so a 15 lap race would be a 17 lapper and a 30 lap race would be a 37 lapper for event. Bevin Wilson started the night by grabbing the fast time honors and winning the Rim Runner feature race. Wilson survived three cautions to take the trophy. He had about an eight car advantage over Donold Webb when the checkers flew. Adam Felts survived an early race caution to finish third. Paul Lambert and Chris York got tangled up with six laps to go but were able to finish the race in fourth and fifth place respectively. Mike Womack was the man to beat in the Taxi race. Womack pulled out into the lead at the wave of the green and never looked back. Caution on lap 13 for a stalled car bunched the field back up. On the restart, Bill Benson did a great job saving it when he bounced off the wall and kept going without bringing out the caution. Fastest Qualifier, Tink Jackson caught Womack on lap 15 just before a caution for a spin. Jackson stayed right in Womack’s tire tracks on the restart with Eugene Anderson staying within striking distance of the top two. The trio pulled out into their own race in the final laps with Jackson making a last lap run on Womack. Womack held on by a fender to pick up the win. Anderson was third. Charles Pruett passed Michael Oldham with five laps to go for the fourth spot. Oldham ended the night in fifth. Chris Allen stretched out into the lead early in the Front Wheel Drive Modified race. David Frost was on Allen’s bumper in the early laps of the race. Frost got into Allen on lap 6. Allen got a little out of shape but was able to gather it back up without losing it. The maneuver allowed Fast Time Winner, Dustin Goodwin to close up on the top two. Goodwin overtook the second spot on lap 8 and the lead the very next lap. Once out front, Goodwin took off leaving the rest to be settled out behind him. With just two laps to go, Scott Conner moved to the outside of Allen for second. Jerry Nuckols eased into the picture for a three wide final lap for the second spot. Conner stretched out to grab second with Nuckols stealing third. Allen settled in for fourth. Frost took home fifth. Toby Tobitt added to his points lead winning the Challenger Race. Fast Tim Winner, Tobitt jumped out into the lead at the start and set sail. Billy Shaffer kept Tobitt in his sights but never made a move on him for the lead. Tobitt won the caution free race with Shaffer finishing second. Terry Conn finished third. Kevin LaMastus led flag to flag in the Sportsman race. LaMastus ran all by himself most of the night. Fast Time Winner, Brice Crabtree caught up to LaMastus with a handful of laps to go but was not able to make a pass. LaMastus took home the trophy in the caution free race. Crabtree finished less than a car length back for second. Nearly a straight away back was Matt Goodwin and Jonathan Wilhite for third and fourth respectively. Fifth place was Jay Parrish. Chuckie Adkins came back with a vengeance in the Pro Trucks. Adkins was in a last lap crash a couple weeks ago that left his truck with heavy damage. Two weeks later, Adkins comes back stronger than ever setting fast time of the night and winning the 37 lap feature. Adkins took the lead on lap ten from early race leader, Bobby Wingo leaving the rest of the pack in his dust. Caution on lap 25 brought the field back together. Zach Evans and Chuck Adcock crashed in turn three. The duo had been laying on each other down the back stretch as they battled for position. Back underway, Adkins opened back up leaving Wingo and Matt Spurlock to settle it out for second. On the white flag lap, Buddy Williams lost his motor looping it as he went through turns three and four. Williams backed his crippled truck down out of the way so that the race could end without further incident. Adkins won the race with Wingo coming in second. Spurlock took third followed by James Baggett and Richard Hamilton for fourth and fifth. It took a while to clean the track from the blown motor for the Super Stock race. But once they got going, Daniel Barnes showed them how it was done. Barnes set fast time for the class and went on to win the trophy! Barnes took seven laps to move into challenge Willie Coats for the lead. Barnes and Coats ran side by side for four laps until Coats slid into the corner dirt track style allowing Barnes to pull ahead into the top spot. Barnes won the race with Tink Jackson pulling double duty in both the Taxis and Super Stocks finishing second. Third went to Coats. Lance Steel and Timmy Coats rounded out the top five. It took a couple tries to get the Late Models going. Once underway, it took Mike Barrett just three laps to steer his way into the lead. Yellow slowed the race on lap six when Zach Neely looped it in turn two. On the restart, Barrett held his lead with Scot Gay and Bobby Terry battling for second. Fast Time Winner, Terry took second on lap ten and set his sites on Barrett. A second caution for a three car jumble with ten to go gave Terry a break. But it was all about Barrett. Barrett won the race with Terry finishing three car lengths back for second. Gay ended his run in third place. T.W. Fisher and Neely both survived early race incidents to finish fourth and fifth. Highland Rim Speedway Race Recap May 30, 2009 – Highland Rim Speedway closed out May with some great racing action in all eight classes! A caution riddled Rim Runner race started the night’s action. Kevin Figeuroa split it up the middle making it three wide on the start to snatch the lead. Paul Lambert didn’t make it easy on him. The pair ran wheel to wheel for several laps before Lambert completed the pass for the top spot. A lap later, Figeuroa, Donold Webb and Bevin Wilson crossed up in turn four. All three were able to continue but the crash gave Lambert a break. On the restart, Lambert shot out over the rest of the pack, leaving them to shake it out among them. Second place finisher, Philip Bilyeu had a good race going with Steven Hobock for most of the race until Hobock bounced off the wall in turn two, allowing Webb to take 3rd place. With just three laps to go, Adam Felts’ engine let go, but he was still able to limp around to a fifth place finish. Toby Tobitt walked the dog in the Challenger Class. Toby stretched out into the lead with the wave of the green flag and never looked back. Tobitt, Jamie VanEtten and Billy Schaffer broke out into their own three car race pulling away from the pack. Just past the halfway point of the race, mechanical problems forced VanEtten’s night to end too soon. Tobitt and Schaffer circled the track, gobbling up asphalt, putting every other car down at least one lap by the time the checkers flew. Tobitt was victorious followed by Schaffer. Christopher Zentz came away third with Kenny Newsom taking the fourth spot. Austin Beatty survived an early race spin to finish fifth. The Front Wheel Drive Modified race came all the way down to the wire. Chris Allen took the lead on lap one with Joey Williams all over him for the spot. A restart following a spin on lap two allowed David Hummel to pull up on Williams. The duo had a hard race going for the second spot before they tangled going into turn two. Williams slammed the wall hard ending his night. The rest of the 15 car field did an excellent job of missing Williams’ car as it sat crossways across the track. A couple laps later, Hummel got squirrelly coming out of turn four and almost had it straightened back up but the 08 car of Jared Eidson caught him sending him around. On the restart, Scott Conner made his move on Allen for the top spot. Conner looked under Allen on lap nine but wasn’t able to complete the pass. Two laps later, Conner took the lead but only for a lap. Caution flew for a spin with just two laps to go. On the restart, Allen dove under Conner to try and take his lead back. The pair ran wheel to wheel for the final two laps with Allen stretching it out by a fender over Conner at the wire! Allen’s teammate, Scott Allen came home third with Jerry Nuckols and Benjamin Pulley rounding out the top five. Chuck Adkins won his second Pro Truck feature of the year holding off Zach Evans. Adkins took the lead from Buddy Williams on lap two and checked out on the field. Evans tried to run down Adkins, but it wasn’t meant to be. Evans rolled in second. Ryan Arms took the third spot. Williams slid home fourth. Matt Spurlock had a rough night, coming in for some pit work before the green flag ever flew. Spurlock was posted as fifth place finisher. The checkers flew for Daniel Barnes in the Super Stock feature. Barnes pulled under Roger Birdsong, Jr. on lap seven to take over the lead. Birdsong made Barnes work for it for a couple laps before he could complete the pass. With Barnes in the lead, he opened up some track over Birdsong as Josh Hood moved in to challenges Birdsong. Caution on lap 14 gave Hood a break. On the restart, Hood stuck right with Barnes. Hood gave Barnes a bit of a love tap as they rocketed down the back stretch. Both competitors nearly looped it but were able to straighten it back up. Another car wasn’t so lucky bringing out the final caution. Barnes held the lead on the restart with Birdsong right in his tire tracks. At the line, Barnes had the win just a car length over Birdsong. Charlie Briley was third. Tink Jackson and Willie Coats were fourth and fifth respectively. The Sportsman feature saw a first time winner – Chris Willard. Willard inherited the lead from Thomas Pannell when his car died on lap seven at the start finish line. Willard had a strong lead, holding off birthday boy, Johnathan Wilhite. Wilhite kept the heat turned up on Willard. Caution at the midway point of the race for debris bunched the field back up. On the restart, Brice Crabtree got a little loose allowing Willard and Wilhite to pull away. The lead got erased in the closing laps when Crabtree looped it going into turn one. Johnathan Dishman had no where to go and slid into Crabtree. Both were able to continue on. Willard charged out front to take home the trophy. Whilhite, Ezell and Dishman fought it out finishing second, third and fourth respectively. Crabtree coasted home fifth. Less than a fender decided the Late Model feature. Davey Coble grabbed the lead early in the race with Bobby Terry and Mike Barrett nose to tail behind him. The top three pulled out like a freight train in their own three car race. Barrett dove under Terry on lap ten for second. Just five laps later, Barrett got a bit out of shape but was able to gather it back up without loosing the spot. Coble looked like it would be his trophy. But with thee to go, Barrett made his move running the final laps door to door with Coble. At the stripe, Barrett had the advantage by less than a fender! Terry faded at the end but wound up third. Ricky Patton took fourth with James Willard in fifth place. The Taxi Division winner was not the first person to the line. Eugene Anderson lead early in the race with William Newton on his bumper. Terry Swift used the old chrome horn and split the two stealing the lead on lap five. Swift checked out on the pack until a spin brought the pack back together. Tink Jackson used the restart to make a run on Swift. Both push out front as Newton , Tim Bork, and Michael Maynard battle for third. Maynard makes it three wide on the back stretch to the high side to take the position. Swift was first to the line four car lengths ahead of Jackson . Maynard held off Newton to cross the line third. But in post race inspections both Swift and Maynard were found with rules violations. Jackson was proclaimed winner with Newton taking the second spot. Michael Womack finished third. Fourth place was Charles Pruett while Jason Ladd came away with the fifth spot. Racing continues next weekend at the Rim with racing in seven classes for nearly 200 laps of high banked racing excitement! Fairgrounds Speedway Wrap: Rowdy Night in Music City! By contributing writers Paul Jensen, Rob Spires & Tammy Brewington It was a wild night of racing at Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday that saw Andy Johnson, the reigning track champion, and former track champion Mark Day both losing their poise and later receiving harsh penalties for their actions. NASCAR driver and two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin was also penalized for working on his car under a red flag. Where have we seen that before? The occasion for the gathering was the Full Throttle 200 presented by Nossi College of Art. Top Late Model drivers from throughout the area converged on the grand old track for an evening of banging and bumping, and that's exactly what happened. The rivalry between reigning champion Andy Johnson and former champ Mark Day goes back several years. Saturday night it boiled over. The race was to run in three segments, the first for 100 laps, then 50 laps, and then a final 50 laps for the cash. A bonus was on the table for anyone who could win all three segments from the inverted fields. The fun started after qualifying when it was determined Michael House's car had illegal tires, so he was sent to the back of the starting grid. Chevy White jumped out into the lead at the start of the race, but he eventually fell back, was lapped, and then had to pit under green to change a flat tire, putting him several laps down. Daniel Pope passed White and took the lead on lap 18. Baker Curb Racing developmental driver Tommy Joe Martins and Marlin also passed White to take second and third. The first caution came out on lap 39 when Chuck Tuckspun on the frontstretch. Pope held the lead to the next caution at lap 73 when Martins and Day made contact with each other, sending Martins hard into the frontstretch wall, ending the night for him. Paul Connelly got loose and spun in turn 2 on lap 80. When the race restarted on lap 87, Joseph Meyer and Dean McIntyre got together near the entrance to turn 1, causing a red flag to come out as debris was strewn across the track. In the short shootout to the end of the first segment, Day passed Pope on the final lap to grab the lead going into the break. Pope, Sterling Marlin, Steadman Marlin, and Andy Johnson rounded out the top 5. An inversion of 6 was drawn for the second segment, putting Daniel Boldenin the lead, followed by Johnson, Steadman Marlin, Sterling Marlin, Pope and Day. On lap 106 the large crowd came to its feet as Sterling Marlin passed Pope for the lead in a move Nashville fans have witnessed for decades. Marlins' lead would be short-lived as four laps later, Day, who was simply running in a zone apart from everyone else, breezed by to retake the lead. By lap 132 the caution flew for a light mist that began falling over the backstretch and then enveloped the entire track. On lap 144 the track went to green-yellow, allowing the cars to go faster to help dry the track, but still no passing. After surveying crew chiefs and getting a mixed response, track officials were set to restart the race, but they had gotten to lap 150, the scheduled end of the second segment. Day won the second segment followed by Sterling Marlin, Pope, Bolden, and Johnson. If he could win the final segment, Day would score the $500 bonus. The third segment was to pay $1,400-to-win, so everyone was getting dialed in during the brief break between segments. An inversion of 6 was again drawn for the third segment. That put Steadman Marlin first, followed by Johnson, Bolden, Pope, Sterling Marlin, and Day. As the third segment began, all hell broke loose. Johnson passed Steadman for the lead and then Johnson and Day collided with each other in turn 1. The entire field was collected in the mess except Pope. After the cars untangled themselves and came around the track under the caution, Johnson and Day were playing bumper tag with each other. Day tagged Johnson at least twice between the backstretch and turn 4. When the cars came down pit road, Day stopped at his pit as Johnson pulled up next to him. Johnson then intentionally plowed his car into Day's stopped race car, pushing Day's car up against the pit wall as crew members and officials scurried behind the wall to avoid being injured. As the drivers got out of their cars, a large brawl ensued. As the ruckus grew, Steadman Marlin could be seen running from the south pit area to join the fracas. His father Sterling stayed in his pit box, watching the spectacle several stalls in front of him. Sterling eventually moved his car to the south pits, apparently ready to start loading up to leave, as at first race officials said they were going to call the race at that time. The red flag was out, thus Marlin was penalized for working on his car during the red flag, reminding fans of the famous incident in the 2002 Daytona 500 when Marlin, leading the race with six laps to go, hopped out of his car and began pulling on a fender during a red flag. He would finish 8th that day. Officials decided they had to let what cars remained race so a winner could be determined. Johnson was tossed out of the race, but Day was allowed to continue, although he too was penalized for working on his car during the red flag. It was determined by officials to run the race to 165 laps, as weather was threatening, and even though the normal 11:00 curfew was not in affect for the special race, it was well past 11:00 and track promoter Danny Denson made the call to end the race early. When the race resumed the leaders were Pope, Riverview Speedway lead foot Jimmy Victory, TW Fisher, and Bolden. Sterling Marlin ran a couple of laps, then took his ailing car to the hauler and called it a night. Pope ran the short distance to the win with Victory taking second. "Man, the fans got their money's worth tonight. It was wild out there with all the on-track and off-track craziness. I have to thank my whole racing operation for this win and also my parents and the fans for supporting my racing efforts," said an excited Pope. As hard as it is to believe, this was not the only race Saturday night at the Fairgrounds. The evening began on the 1/4 mile with the Legends Semi Pro/ Young Guns. A.J. Carlisi took the lead from the pole. The caution flew on lap 6 when C.J. Tuck broke a left front wheel and pulled off the track in turn 3. Another yellow flag flew on lap 14 when Ross Rollings, Tanner Derryberry, and Jake Dunsmorecrashed in turn 1. Dunsmore was done for the evening. Carlisi held off a strong rush from Cody Fernett on the final lap to take the win. In the Legends Pro/ Masters feature, Kenny Summers and Kevin Riggscrashed on the frontstretch going into turn 1 on the first lap. Both cars were too heavily damaged to continue. Tyler Slayden passed Chris Wilson for the lead coming out of turn 4 on the first lap. Wilson then pulled his car off the track. On lap 6 Josh Berrypassed Slayden for the lead, then held off a hard-charging Tyler Cordell for the win. Mitchell Vickers grabbed the lead from Art Choateat the end of the first lap of the Thunderstox feature. The caution flew on lap 19 when Stephanie Barnes spun by herself in turn 4. Travis Ryman spun by himself in turn 4 of lap 22, bringing out the yellow again. Mitchell Vickers then won the race while Charles Goddard prevailed in a 3-wide photo finish for 2nd. Robert Forsythe muscled his way past Clint Iveyto take the lead on the opening lap of the Super Stock feature. The caution flew on lap when 23 when Forsythe, still leading the race, spun by himself in turn 2. Charles Goddard took the lead and won the race pulling away from the field. Racing then moved to the 5/8-mile track, where Blake Carter spun Stacey Crain going into the first turn of the first lap, causing a complete restart for the Super Truck feature. Blake Williams jumped out to an early lead when the caution flew on lap 14 after Jason Adamsgot loose and hit the wall hard on the frontstretch. The red flag came out while the track was cleaned up. Williams held off hard charges from Clint Crowell and Bobby Buttrey to capture his first career victory. "This is my first win here at the Fairgrounds Speedway. My team and I have been digging for four long years and it finally paid off. I feel almost speechless. I have to dedicate this win to my father and the fans that support us. I had to hang on the last 5 laps because I was easing in the corners on very slick tires. I'm grateful for this win," stated Williams. Second-place finisher Crowell said, "I drove my butt off tonight. I have to give props to my crew tonight because even with my right rear burned up we still brought home the runner-up spot. This was a good night for this race team." Truck Series points leader Bobby Buttrey hung on to the points lead with a 3rd place finish. Buttrey said, "We had to do a motor change and start at the back so I knew I had my work cut out for me, but I have full faith in this phenomenal team to give me equipment to move to the front in any race. We're still on pace towards the Truck championship." In the Sportsman feature, Michael House pulled out to the lead after battling Jeff Belt through turns 1 and 2 on the opening lap. House held off spirited charges from Belt and Lee Goddard to win the lightning fast, caution-free race. House said, "It's really good to be back racing at the Fairgrounds Speedway and it was even nicer grabbing the win tonight. We had a strong car and I definitely want to thank my crew and all the fans who came out to support us." The evening was then topped off by what would be a 165-lap Late Model feature.
