POSTED 8-24-08 LUCAS OIL SERIES FIRE AND SAFETY CREWS DO A GOOD JOB AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY

As a photographer and a former stock car driver let me start by saying this. There were hundreds of drag cars at Beech Bend Raceway this weekend from all over the states. With that being said, sometimes thing happen that you don't what to happen. As I was on the starting line shooting pictures, I most always watch toward the next car coming up. And that is what I was doing, when I heard the tires and crowd react to a wreck at the finishing line of the quarter mile track. I was most impressed with the Lucas Oil Series Fire and safety crews along with Beech Bend Raceway crew. Almost before the cars got stopped the fire and safety crew was on the track and there. I give them a big thumb's up! I am also happy to report that both drivers walked away. That says something to the safety of NHRA. I think the only real hurt to both drivers was their feelings. So, in my final thoughts, who said Stock Car drivers are the only ones to crash and put on a show. See you at another drag event. If you see me with the Photos by Odell shirt on, give me a shout. I was at Beech Bend Raceway all weekend for the Lucas Oil Drag Series. Even though I worked on the starting line most of the time shooting photos for this blog site and my other site www.photosbyodell.com it was a real fun event to see. If you like motorsports, then you need to make plans to visit Beech Bend Raceway. Folks some of you live right here in Bowling Green, Ky. with Beech Bend Raceway and Park in your backdoor. With gas so high in price, Beech Bend should look even better to visit. I will tell you that your money to get into one of these events is money well spent. Ok, enough! And the answer is NO! I don't get paid a penny for promoting Beech Bend. I simply love racing of all types and hope to keep Beech Bend here by supporting them. Odell Paul is at home but will have to have one or more surgery's.I attached some photo's of the accident it will make you wonder how he survived. Paul would like to thank every body for calling, it meant a lot to find out that you have so many friends. It will be several months before his recovery will be complete we won't race any more this year but we will be back next season.Paul has two broken bones in his right leg and a small blood clot in his lung. Paul's leg has not been set at this time we go back to Vanderbilt on the 21st of August.Paul says Thanks

Posted 8-14-08 SPORTSMAN DRIVER HAS BAD WRECK AT WORK

A source has told me that sportsman driver #80 Paul Watkins had a bad wreck this morning while at work. I was told that he is at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. I will update as I know more. Please keep Paul in your prayers. UPDATE: I TALKED TO JOHNNY, PAUL'S DAD. HE SAID HE IS IN SURGERY AT THIS TIME (4:05 P.M. CST) HE SAID PAUL HAS CUTS ALL OVER BUT THE WORST THING WAS ONE LEG WAS BADLY HURT. JOHNNY SAID PAUL WILL BE IN REHAB FOR 8 TO 12 WEEKS. ONE GOOD THING AS OF NOW HE HAS NO LIFE THREATENING INJURY'S. I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED AS I HEAR MORE.

_________________________ Odell I went and saw paul on sunday at vandy he looks good and is doing well. He right leg was broken twice blow the knee. He has gone through two surgerys and has hopefully only one more to go. He is in very hi spirits and hopes to come home soon. He would like to thank everyone for there thoughts and prayers. Skeeter
