Double-Down Fun for Climer Fairgrounds Speedway PR Story by Rob Spires-When Murfreesboro’s Tommy Climer pulled into the Fairgrounds Speedway on June 7, he hoped for a good night. Little did he know that by the time he left the historic speedway, he would have two trophies in tow. Climer began the night by dominating the field in the Open Wheel division, leading every lap of the race. Just a short time later, Climer was standing in victory lane yet again after capturing the Supertruck victory. “When I showed up, I wanted to win both races,” Climer said. “On Monster Jam, they get a double-down trophy for winning the racing and freestyle. I wanted my own double-down trophy.” Climer said he had expected success in the Open Wheel feature. “I bought the Open Wheel car about a month ago. Since then I have won three times between here and Carthage.” That victory tally has now grown to four, as Climer once again led every lap to capture the victory last Saturday. While Climer may be dominating the Open Wheel division, his success in Supertrucks hasn’t come quite as easily. “The truck win definitely wasn’t a gimme, we had to race for that one,” he said. In post qualifying inspection, Climer’s truck was found to be too low, meaning his time was disallowed and he had to start at the rear. “I had a good truck, but we had to come from the back,” Climer said. “I was picking them off and when I got to third the caution came out. I knew I had them then.” Climer was able to pass leader Rob Sanders with 11 laps remaining and distance himself from the pack to take an easy victory. Though he didn’t dominate the race, Climer said it was favorite of the two. “The trucks are the most competitive series at the track,” he said. “They’re the most fun division out here.” In victory lane, Climer expressed gratitude to his sponsors, Uptown Collision Centers, Climer Bail Bonding, DM Tires, and Averitt Auto Salvage, and said that he expects to be in contention for victory throughout the rest of the races on the schedule. Climer will have an opportunity to defend both wins as the Supertruck series returns to the schedule on Saturday night after an off weekend. The Late Models, Sportsman, Thunderstox, Super Stocks, Open Wheel, Legends, and Dwarf cars are all also in action. As always, tickets are only $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and children 10 and under are free.
