IOFS SEASON OPENER NEARS
April 23, 2009 - Indianapolis, IN - With the Inaugural International Outlaw Figure 8 Series (IOFS) season opener fast approaching, series officials today indicated interest is at an all-time high. The series is set to invade the recently reopened Kentucky Motor Speedway in Whitesville, KY in just a few days. Drivers are contacting the series almost daily as they finalize preparations for the May 3rd event.The format for the season opening event calls for time trials, heat races, and a fifty lap feature on the 1/4 high banked speedway. KMS promoter, Scott Greer, has also announced there will be an open practice on Saturday afternoon May 2nd to get the teams acclimated to the speedway. On Sunday gates open at 12pm, practice at 1pm, qualifying at 3:30 pm, and racing will begin at 5pm. Greer has also said that the IOFS series will be the first events of the night to get fans and drivers on the road earlier.Kentucky Motor Speedway opened in 1960 but it wasn't until 1980 that a Figure 8 course was added. The track was closed after the 2004 season and has set idle until Greer took over promotional duties in late 2008. A single event was held in November.Drivers who have earlier indicated they may participate in this event include: Chuck Rogers, Rich Fenwick, Charlie Hargraves, Johny Hargraves, Butch Winters, Doug Greig, Tony Anderson, Bob Knauss, Jeff Hizer, Rodney Sizemore, and many more from the Indiana and Kentucky areas.For fans and teams looking for accommodations, IOFS officials have indicated that Days Inn in Owensboro, KY will be offering a special rate of $65.99 per night from May 1-3, 2009 by asking for the IOFS racers rate.
