We feel the race was a huge success. Car turn out was very impressive, with drivers from all parts of the area. Here is a short list of some great drivers, Martin Belcher of Brooks, Ky., Steve Ashley of Central City, Ky., Kevin La Mastus of Bowling Green, Ky., Tommy Climer of Murfreesboro, TN., Bobby Terry of Nashville, TN., and last year Late Model Champion, Bo Miller. Sammy Sanders of Bowling Green, Ky (formerly Nashville, TN.) set on the pole with a speed of 15.67. After winning race number one, Sammy had to start in the rear of the next race. With a field of twenty cars, Sammy worked his way to the front to pick up win number two for the night. Race one top three were, Sammy Sanders, Bo Miller, second and Mark Oliver finishing third. Race two were, Sammy Sanders, Martin Belcher, second and Steve Ashley finishing third. We took some really great photos at this event.

POSTED 9-6-08 ODELL IS REPORTING RACING ON THE SITE WNKY.NET/YOUNEWS

I have been trying to promote racing for about two years now. I just had the pleasure to post as a photojournalist on this site www.wnky.net/younews It is a site for WNKY TV. I post as photoguy57. My first post and story was of the Ricky Sanford crash. It was just put on today and has already been placed as "Most Popular". Be sure to check this site out. I will be posting for them about our local racing. Maybe it will help you the racer. There is a link to this site on my side bar to the right if you want to click on it later. Thanks, Odell

POSTED 8-31-08 FORDS WIN TWICE

This hurts me bad. Why? Because I am a Chevy Man. And Sunday night at Beech Bend Raceway two FORDS in two different class WON! The top photo is #46 John Summers of the Modified Street class. He drove off with a sizable lead to take the win. John's car had been sitting in a barn for a few years and they just knock the dust off and come out and won. The photo below is #87 Jeff Bush. Bush knocked the dust off his car also. It has been sitting at home too. Oh well, I guess the chevy guys need to step it up with these HOT ROD FORDS coming to town. Good Job John and Jeff.

POSTED 8-31-08 DONT LET A SIMPLE LITTLE RACE HURT A FRIENDSHIP!

Wild, what can I say about this deal? First, I am friends with both you guy's. And Tommy and Doodle were friends. Doodle needed a ride to keep up his points lead and Tommy let Doodle drive his car. Doodle won in Tommy's car. What a great thing for two racers to do for each other. I am not going to say much more except read the writing below (Melton-Bland Battle) and most of that applies to you guy's. I hope you both find it deep down in your soul to forgive each other and finish this season out with some good hard racing. Like Forrest Gump said, that's all I got to say about that.

POSTED 8-31-08 LET'S HAVE RACES, NOT WARS

I thought about this war between Matt Melton and Joe Bland most of the day. The question was how do I report this incident without making one or both parties mad at me? With that being said let me first say this. I love stock car racing as much as most anyone out at the local tracks of Beech Bend Raceway. I would do nothing on purpose to hurt Beech Bend Raceway, Stock Car Racing or any of you racers. I happen to feel that I am friends with both parties. Again, with all that being said, as I have said on here more than once I DO NOT LIKE TO SEE RACERS USE THEIR CARS AS WEAPONS ON THE TRACK OR IN THE PITS. I also have raced many times at Beech Bend Raceway and other tracks. I have gotten so mad that I could have beat the daylights out of another racer. But I didn't! If you are going to race or compete in any competition you must learn to keep your feeling and tempers in check. Easier said than done, I know! Losers KEEP fighting and WINNERS and REAL men can say I'm SORRY and go on racing. The only trouble with that is sometimes neither side feels like they were wrong and that MALE macho thing comes into play. Well tough, get over it. The crowd keeps most of this stirred up. Why? Because they like to see you all put on a show. And if one of you hurts, kills or do anything bad, you go to jail and they go home and laugh at you while they sleep in their nice warm bed and you are in a cold old jail and maybe for a long time. I know you say I'm not going to kill someone, right! Ask a former racer Joe Ray. He hit a crew member/Owner and when he fell to the blacktop he hit his head and almost died. Joe got 5 years. Is this really worth it? I think not. NASCAR has trouble with drivers. Just like Carl Edwards and Kyle Bush. NASCAR also keeps a handle on things. And again, with that being said, a good rivalry is fine and also fun for the fans to watch. Even bumping and hard racing is good. But if a guy spins you be a man a shake his hand at the end of the race. He will think a lot more of you. But if he spins you again next week? Get someone that is not with you, like Dallas Jones, Bobby White, Gary Dalton and after the drivers meeting talk to him with them. But talk like a man and no foul language or such. Work it out like grown men. Hey, and you kids racing in a man's world need to act like grown men too! I could rattle on for ever, but I will stop. Guy's remember, young kids in the stand may want to race someday and may have you as their idle. And if you post on my site remember to KEEP IT CLEAN.

POSTED 8-24-08 LUCAS OIL SERIES FIRE AND SAFETY CREWS DO A GOOD JOB AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY

As a photographer and a former stock car driver let me start by saying this. There were hundreds of drag cars at Beech Bend Raceway this weekend from all over the states. With that being said, sometimes thing happen that you don't what to happen. As I was on the starting line shooting pictures, I most always watch toward the next car coming up. And that is what I was doing, when I heard the tires and crowd react to a wreck at the finishing line of the quarter mile track. I was most impressed with the Lucas Oil Series Fire and safety crews along with Beech Bend Raceway crew. Almost before the cars got stopped the fire and safety crew was on the track and there. I give them a big thumb's up! I am also happy to report that both drivers walked away. That says something to the safety of NHRA. I think the only real hurt to both drivers was their feelings. So, in my final thoughts, who said Stock Car drivers are the only ones to crash and put on a show. See you at another drag event. If you see me with the Photos by Odell shirt on, give me a shout. See ya Fans!

POSTED 8-24-08 BEECH BEND RACEWAY HOST THE LUCAS OIL DRAG SERIES THIS WEEK END

I was at Beech Bend Raceway all weekend for the Lucas Oil Drag Series. Even though I worked on the starting line most of the time shooting photos for this blog site and my other site www.photosbyodell.com it was a real fun event to see. If you like motorsports, then you need to make plans to visit Beech Bend Raceway. Folks some of you live right here in Bowling Green, Ky. with Beech Bend Raceway and Park in your backdoor. With gas so high in price, Beech Bend should look even better to visit. I will tell you that your money to get into one of these events is money well spent. Ok, enough! And the answer is NO! I don't get paid a penny for promoting Beech Bend. I simply love racing of all types and hope to keep Beech Bend here by supporting them. If you would like to see more photos of this Lucas Oil Series go to www.photosbyodell.com then at the click home page and then at the bottom right click on the shopping cart. (NO you will not have to buy a photo) You will see two catalogues of Lucas Oil event plus other photos.
