Hello race fans. Margaret and I have been on vacation for a week. We went to Beech Bend and took our camper for the AMRA Harley Drags. Margaret did video for The Odell and Billy Show. This weeks "LOCAL RACING NEWS AND RUMORS BY ODELL" Driver of the Week Award goes to J.J. Scheizer #7 Figure-8 Class. J.J. has raced for many years at Beech Bend Raceway Park and has never had the year he is having in 2008. With back to back wins in the wild and woolly figure-8. Not only has J.J. had back to back wins, he has had a very fast car. He has also gotten out front and made some really good moves through the "X". My hat goes off to J.J. Scheizer this week. Pictured in the center among all them fans is Driver Bo Miller. Bo picked up another win in the late model class. Even after adding 50 pounds to his car Bo drivers through the field of cars and wins again. The Beech Bend Raceway official have told Bo that after he wins three more races he will have to add another 50 pounds. Will Bo be adding that 50 pounds anytime soon? I say YES. Good Job and Congratulations Bo!

Anthony Russell grabs another win in the Modified Street Class. Picture here is Anthony and his new bride Lisa. Just to let you the readers know, Beech Bend officials told Anthony to add 400 pounds of weight to his car before he races next week. I talked to one official that said it was because he was a second or so faster than the rest of the other cars in that class. This was not the first time this has happen this year, Bo Miller was told a week ago to add 50 pounds to his car. Oh well, Anthony congratulations on the win!

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (AP) — Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car crashed and burst into flames during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
The NHRA said the 46-year-old Kalitta — the 1994 and 1995 Top Fuel season champion who had 18 career victories, 17 in Top Fuel and one in Funny Car — was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge, where he died a short time later.
Witnesses told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Kalitta's Toyota Solara was traveling at an estimated speed of 300 mph when the crash occurred.
The Palmetto, Fla., resident started his career at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in 1982. His father, Connie Kalitta, was a longtime driver and team owner known as "The Bounty Hunter," and his cousin, Doug Kalitta, also drives competitively.
Scott Kalitta is survived by wife Kathy and sons Corey and Colin.
NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Brad Keselowski — a native of Rochester Hills, Mich., about 20 miles away from Kalitta's hometown of Mount Clemens — learned the news from a television report Saturday afternoon.
"That really hits close to home," Keselowski said after winning the pole position for Saturday night's race at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis. "(He was) a friend of my family's, and I send my thoughts and prayers out to him. That's tough to hear."
Last year, Funny Car driver Eric Medlen died after an accident in a testing session at Gainesville, Fla.

As a fan of stock car racing I watch the races just like you all do. And as a somewhat reporter for this blog and The Odell and Billy TV Show I report what I see and think. This week I am reporting on a driver that I think deserves the driver of the week. His Name is Tommy Hoover of Springfield, TN. Tommy was in and out of the lead and hit and pushed on but held his cool and ended up with the win. Congratulations to Tommy Hoover for being Driver of the Week on this site.

Hunter Willis winning the Front Runner Class race. Hunter drove the wheel's off his car. He had to deal with the #11 of Matt Melton and #23 of Tommy Hoover of Springfield, TN. But at the end Hunter Willis was disqualified because he refused to sale his car after being claimed by the driver #11 Matt Melton. Hunter you are a great sportsman and remember what I told you last night in your TV interview, "What goes around comes around" you will do good in your new ride. Hope your open wheel runs great.
