POSTED 10-25-07 DON'T MISS THE EXCITING HALLOWEEN 200 AT SALEM SPEEDWAY IN SALEM, IN. THIS SUNDAY

STRONG FIELD EXPECTED FOR SEASON ENDING HALLOWEEN 200 BY SMOKER FRIENDLY DISCOUNT TOBACCO SALEM, IN, October 17 – The ultimate challenge of 200-laps in rush-hour type traffic faces upwards of 100 drivers in the 19th annual Halloween 200, presented by Smoker Friendly Discount Tobacco, on Sunday, October 28 at Salem Speedway. “It’s the most challenging race of the season at Salem,” said track general manager Richard Deaton. “It takes a combination of driving ability and pure luck to survive the three plus hours of frenzied on-track action.” In past years as many as 101 cars have lined up three abreast on the .555-mile, 33-degree banked oval and taken the green flag for 111-miles of fender-to-fender competition. A total of 104 entries were received for the 2006 Halloween 200, with 93 cars answering the call to start engines. The grueling 200-lap race presents a major challenge to all teams in terms of car and driver endurance. Drivers realize that anything can happen in the blink of an eye on the lightning-fast Salem Speedway oval. “This is shaping up to be another very competitive Halloween 200 field,” said Deaton. “The quality of entries already received is outstanding from top to bottom.” At least eight former Halloween 200 winners, including defending race champion, Beau Mitchell of Owensboro, Ky., are expected to grace the starting line-up for the 2007 edition of the street stock classic. Other former winners entered include Chuck Barnes Sr. of Louisville (1999, 2000, 2002 and 2005), Dan Banker of Mitchellville, Iowa (1990), Johnny Banker of Orleans, Ind., (1994), Tony Conway of Louisville (1998), Johnny Magee of Carthage, Ind., (2003) and Rich Boyer of Anderson, Ind., (2004). Former Firecracker 200 winners Frank Kimmel II of Borden (2007), David Bayens of Memphis, Ind., (2006), John Collins of Sellersburg, (2003) and Todd Kempf of Huntingburg (2001) are also expected for the season ending race. Spectator gates open at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, with practice slated for 10 a.m., and the start of the Halloween 200 presented by Smoker Friendly Discount Tobacco at 1 p.m. Advance general admission tickets are priced at $13 for adults and $3 for children (age 7-12).
