The weather forecast called for rain on Saturday night. Saturday night was also the debut for the new Ken-Ten Pro Late Model Series. The rain held off and the stars came out. Local driving stars from three states, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. Twenty six cars where on hand for the first race of the new series at Highland Rim Speedway. Greenbrier, TN. Davey Coble set fast time and was dq’d in post qualifying tech, however Coble was able to bolt on four new tires and start shotgun on the field. Mike Barrett gets the ARP Bodies fast time award with a lap of 12:982. Mike rolled a five for the invert putting Robbie Brown on the pole. The first caution of the race was for driver Tony Ussery as he got jacked up and into turn one wall. The race restarted as the green flag waves and driver Robbie Brown leads until lap 15 as the yellow comes out for Hunter “The Hitman” Willis who hit the wall. This caused Kevin Willis to spin his car. The restart had Robbie leading until the caution flew on lap 25 for Mike Barrett (ARP Bodies fast time award) hitting and climbing the backstretch wall. On the restart Robbie Brown keeps the lead, Ricky Sanford 2nd and Chad Willis moves from his starting spot of 6th to 3rd. Lap 70 we had a lead change, Ricky Sanford takes first and Robbie slips back to 2nd with Chad Willis 3rd where they ran until lap 77, the caution is out for Josh Brock one of the rookie contenders with a flat right rear. On lap 82 Robbie Brown in 2nd hits turn one wall hard with brake failure, killing the front clip. Robbie stated that it was the hardest hit he had ever taken!! Lap 93 restart and Ricky Sanford is 1st, Chad Willis 2nd, Austin Brawley (R) 3rd, Jason Jones 4th, Josh Byrns 5th and Sammy Sanders 6th. Lap 98 caution comes out again with Kevin Willis against the turn two wall and Chris Harmon in turn three with a flat tire (right front). Last five laps must be ran under green, so they restarted the race and Ricky Sanford took the checkers. Ricky gets the win for car owners Jimmy Rippy and David Sanford. Ricky had a Renegade Race Cars chassis , ARP Body, Carrera shocks and a 604 crate engine. Ricky is sponsored by Greenbrier Auto Sales, Rippy Masonary and ARP Bodies. Renegade Race Cars Long Haul Award went to Brian Royalty. B & D Landscaping Hard Charger Award goes to Davey Coble, 26th to 7th. DBV Properties Rookie of the Race went to Austin Brawley driving for Bobby Hamilton, Jr. finished in the 3rd spot. ARP Bodies Hardest Hit Award went to Robbie Brown, he’ll need a bunch of parts. Overall it was a very good debut for the new series, Ken-Ten Pro Late Models.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 21, 2009 DEMOLITION DERBY RETURNS TO FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY IN NASHVILLE NASHVILLE, Tenn - After a 16-year absence, the Fairgrounds Speedway is eager to announce their first Demolition Derby contest this weekend, April 25, at the historical short track facility. “In days past, the fans really enjoyed the beating and banging of the Demolition Derby participants and we wanted to bring it back to Nashville as soon as possible. So far we have 15 cars registered, but expect more on race day. It consists of mainly old cars with the last one running without assistance taking home the $750 winner’s purse. The second-place finisher will walk away with $500 in their pocket,” said Track Vice-President Boyd Adams. The event will take place on the front straightaway of the quarter-mile track after the last scheduled racing event concludes. The event is open to all and no membership is required to participate, but registration is mandatory at the back gate. “This is a fun event for everyone to watch and participate in, so we hope to have a big crowd on hand Saturday night to watch them demolish the cars down to the last one standing,” stated Danny Denson, Fairgrounds Speedway Promoter. Opening night at the Fairgrounds Speedway proved to be a smashing success! Even with the threat of rain and track management finding themselves in the unenviable position of going head-to-head with a nationally-televised NASCAR Sprint Cup race, an estimated 4,000 race fans converged on the historical short track for a night of action-packed racing. “We were thrilled with the opening night crowd and the feedback we received from the grandstands was nothing but positive. The drivers were equally impressed. We’re hoping all the off-season hard work will pay off now,” said promoter Danny Denson. Ten different racing divisions took to the asphalt short track including the headliner and premier division, the Late Model Series. Andy Johnson, a Mt. Juliet, Tennessee driver and defending 2008 Late Model champion, started off 2009 precisely the way he ended last fall, in victory circle. Starting from the pole position in the 50-lap event, Johnson never gave up the lead to his closest challenger, Mark Day. Johnson, in the #20 car, led every lap and put all other drivers in his division on notice that the way to victory circle will be through him in 2009. Johnson stated, “Getting that first championship makes you more excited to get back out there and get back-to-back titles. We’re going to try to run all the races so we can shoot for the second consecutive title. We had a really good, fast car tonight, but the lap cars were racing terrible. It was pretty exciting to look up on the grandstands and see so many race fans out here tonight watching us.” Bobby Buttrey muscled his way to victory circle in the SuperTruck division, while Lee Goddard started off his 2009 season on a winning note in the Sportsman division. Top-5 Finish at Highland Rim Speedway for Turn or Burn Motorsports Josh Byrns and the Southern Foods team made their first appearance this weekend for the 2009 Season. Under cloudy weather conditions, Byrns and team looked to capitalize on success in the Kentucky/Tennessee Pro Late Model Series. Starting the No. 31 Southern Foods Impala in 9th position, Byrns was quick to advance. Though Byrns reported low oil pressure and fought tight conditions inside his race car. He was able to knock on the door to the top-5 mid-way through the run. Numerous cautions were displayed which slowed down the twenty-six car field and Byrns’ progress. The No. 31 Southern Foods Impala maintained a place inside the top-5 for the remainder of the race. Impressively Byrns held his own against the offensive field. Spending the closing laps in a battle, Byrns prevailed to finish 5th. He was unhurt, but unable to continue.Legends Semi-pro:#48 Cody Fernett led flag to flag in the Legends race. The race was caution-free.Legends Pro:Tyler Sladen passed Tyler Cordell on lap 8 to win the Legends Pro Feature. Cordell was second followed by Kevin Rollins.Thunderstocks:Coming out of turn 2 on lap 1, 3rd place starter Jeremy Newman spun pole sitter Charlie Goddard. The incident also involved Dale Travis. Corey LaJoie Snares First UARA Victory In Rockingham Debut FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Charles Hudson 910-205-8800 ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (April 18, 2009) – Corey LaJoie followed in his father’s tread marks Saturday at Rockingham Speedway, snaring his first-ever UARA victory at the track where father Randy LaJoie clinched one of his two NASCAR Busch Series championships in the late 1990s. “This is an awesome place to get a first win!” an ecstatic Corey LaJoie said. “I remember sitting in victory lane in ’96 or ’97. I was probably five or six, sitting on his shoulders in victory lane when he clinched the championship here. So it’s cool to win here, especially having earned my way here. It was an awesome opportunity that Eddie Sharp gave me and I’m thankful for it.” It was, indeed, a Cinderella story for the young LaJoie who crashed his car during a test at the 1-mile track earlier this year. “I came here three months ago, built a brand-new (Steve) Leavitt car, broke a left rear hub and totaled it,” LaJoie explained. “I was like, ‘Oh, hell. What am I going to do now? I have no race car?’ I was here with the ARCA cars and Eddie’s (Sharp) team felt bad for me. He said, ‘I tell you what. I’ve got a Late Model; it’s just a sitting chassis with a body on it. If you get it ready, you’ll run it at Rockingham.’ “I drove up there (to Denver, N.C.) an hour every day, trying to get that thing ready and get it dialed in. The first laps on that thing were the first laps on Friday. Ain’t the normal way to do it, but it’s the way we had to do it. We didn’t have a choice.” Randy LaJoie admitted he was “way proud” of his son’s victory. “I’m just happy for the kid,” LaJoie said. “He’s worked very hard. Built a new car for himself and built the one of Eddie’s. I’m just very proud of him.” It was clear from the beginning the battle for the race victory would be between LaJoie’s Chevrolet and Paddy Rodenbeck’s Dodge. The two rode nose-to-tail for most of the event, then broke into a side-by-side, fender-to-fender duel in the final 10 laps. A late-race caution forced the event to 79 laps from the originally scheduled 70 and into a green-white-checker finish with LaJoie holding off Rodenbeck for a 0.337 victory. “Paddy Rodenbeck was fast,” Randy LaJoie said. “He wasn’t scared to use eight tires through the corners. The longer they went the better Corey got. But on the short runs, the (No.) 81 (Rodenbeck) was fast and he wasn’t afraid to lean on us and I didn’t want to give him that chance. “We might have left a little early on the restart, but when you are coming to (a) win at Rockingham, I would have pushed the darn pace car around the race track.” Rounding out the top five, respectfully, were: Andy Loden, Chevrolet; Kyle Grissom, Dodge; and Clay Greenfield, Chevrolet. Coleman Pressley, son of retired NASCAR driver Robert Pressley, finished seventh, while defending series champion Jake Crum placed 10th. Both drove Chevrolets. Lee Tissot, son of former driver Randy Tissot, took 11th in his Chevrolet. Brandon McReynolds, son of FOX analyst and former NASCAR crew chief Larry McReynolds, finished 19th in his Dodge. The UARA Series race was a prelude to Sunday’s ARCA/REMAX Series Carolina 200. POSTED 4-15-09 UARA-STARS READY TO SHINE AT "THE ROCK"

UARA-Stars Ready to Shine at ‘The Rock’ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Charles Hudson 910-205-8800 ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (April 15, 2009) – Race weekend at Rockingham kicks off this Friday when the UARA Late Model Series takes to the track for practice and qualifying before their race Saturday afternoon. The entry list contains a mixture of youth as well as veterans who will be attempting to win the first late model race at the Rockingham Speedway. The youth side contains some big names in motorsports; Pressley, McReynolds and Grissom. Third generation driver Coleman Pressley, son of Robert Pressley and developmental driver for JTG Daugherty Racing is no stranger to victory lane in late model competition having won several races last season at multiple tracks. Pressley will be attempting to win his first UARA race and make it into the Rock’s victory lane. Larry McReynolds might be in Phoenix this weekend announcing the NASCAR Sprint Cup race for FOX, but his heart will be with his son, Brandon who will be running the UARA race a few hours before the Cup telecast. McReynolds won his first UARA race last season picking up the win at Franklin County Speedway. Kyle Grissom has been a force in the late model ranks for several years now and will be looking to join his father Steve Grissom, the 1993 NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion, with a win at Rockingham. Steve won the 1990 Nationwide race at Rockingham while Kyle was one of the fastest cars in recent testing for the UARA race. “It would be neat to come here and win and run good where he [Steve Grissom] has won so we will see what we can do,” said Kyle Grissom. “I mainly feel lucky to have him helping me.” Other young drivers to watch for include: Matt DiBenedetto, Brennan Poole, Darrell Wallace, Jr., Dylan Presnell, Joey Coulter and John Stancill. The veterans will not make it easy on the young stars during the 70-lap race and will want to claim the top prize for themselves. Clayton Rogers has already chiseled his name into the rock, having won the Pro Cup race at the track last November. Rogers will be looking to become the first two time winner at the track since it reopened for racing last year. He was one of the fastest cars during the open test last month. Only one race of the UARA season has actually been run so far, thanks to Mother Nature. Matt McCall was the winner of that race at the Bristol Motor Speedway leading the most laps on his way to the win. McCall will try and make it two in a row for the series with a win on Saturday. Jamie Caudill will be looking to gain one position from Bristol where he finished second in the season’s only race so far. Another good run could see Caudill leave Rockingham with the UARA points lead. Rockingham’s Randy Benson and Late Model legend Hal Goodson are two more veterans on the UARA entry blank. Developmental drivers are another part of the mix of the UARA Series. Coleman Pressley with JTG Daugherty Racing was already mentioned, but he will not be the only developmental driver in the field. Joe Gibbs Racing developmental drivers Matt DiBenedetto and Darrell Wallace Jr. are both racing this Saturday as well as John King driving for Bill Elliott Racing. JR Motorsports owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have two cars in the race with Jamie Caudill and Richard Boswell driving. Carolina 200 race weekend kicks off on Friday April 17th with Thunderfest in downtown Rockingham from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. There will be a hauler parade through downtown Rockingham at noon on Friday for the day-long celebration as well as most of the drivers signing autographs at 6:00 p.m. On track activities begin Friday as well with UARA practice and qualifying. Saturday April 18th will feature the UARA race and practice and qualifying for the ARCA cars. The Carolina 200 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday April 19th. Daniel Pope: Holding Nothing Back.... 2009 could be a very big year for Daniel Pope. The 22 year-old will be driving a full season for championship car owner Brance Beaty at the Fairgrounds Speedway. Last season Beaty Enterprises drivers Bo Miller and Chevy White were multiple time winners at the track, so Pope knows the potential is there. "I'm going for the championship," he said. "Nothing else will satisfy me." Pope's racing career at the Fairgrounds Speedway began with a bang- he won the first race he drove at age 16. "I won that race with Dad's help, we bought the car and won," Pope said. Pope is quick to credit his father Dan as his hero for all the assistance he has provided throughout his career. In fact, Dan's company, D&D Repairs, will serve as an associate sponsor on Daniel's car throughout the season. The team is still searching for primary sponsorship. Pope said he is excited to be running a full season at the Fairgrounds Speedway, something he didn't do last year. In addition to the competitiveness of the track, Pope is also humbled to be racing on the same track where NASCAR Champions Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Hamilton, Jeff Green, and others honed their skills. In fact, Pope hopes to be able to run races in the style of the Fairgrounds Speedway's winningest driver, Joe Buford. "He would blow everybody away," Pope said. Beaty is also looking forward to a good season. "We finally have the right chemistry here," he said." A big part of that chemistry is new crew chief Randy Weaver. "He's one of the best in the business. He's won in Bristol, and he has numerous other wins in Late Models," Beaty said. Pope's longtime friend, Josh Jacobs, whom he refers to as a brother, is another new addition to the Beaty team this year. He will serve as spotter and tire specialist. Beaty Enterprises is looking for its third consecutive championship. In 2007 Josh Adams won the championship at the Fairgrounds Speedway, and last season Bo Miller was the champion at Beech Bend Park in Bowling Green, KY. The team's chances for the three-peat are strong, as Chevy White will return to Beaty Enterprises as a teammate to Pope. Beaty's plan is to field a third car, but he isn't ready to reveal the driver at this time. Beaty Enterprises also has cars available for rent to drivers who may not have funding to purchase their own. Pope himself is no stranger to driving for championship car owners. In 2006, Pope drove a Kevin Harvick Incorporated entry in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Mansfield Motorsports Park. In that race, Pope's teammate was three-time Truck Series Champion, Ron Hornaday. Pope also has experience in the NASCAR Camping World East Series, as well as the UARA Stars Late Model series. Fairgrounds Speedway will open its season on Saturday, April 18 with competition in nine divisions. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for children from 11-17, and children under 10 are admitted free. POSTED 4-13-09 XTREME WINGED FIGURE-8 ONE HOUR ENDURO RESULTS

By Angie Dickens - Jeffersonville, IN. - Anyone that ventured outside Saturday evening knew it was a slightly cool out. In fact, it got down right cold at The Sportdrome (Jeffersonville, IN) but that did not stop several people, including myself from showing up for the Xtreme Winged Figure 8 1 hour Enduro. The car count was a bit low as many have not completed their car for the 2009 season and/or they have not got all the kinks worked out just yet. Nevertheless, there were still 24 cars on hand with 22 of them taking the green flag. Artie B. Ware set in the pole position in his #38 machine after turning in a time of 20.2578. The rest of the top 5 consisted of #6 Chris Harmon, #5 Gary Isgrigg, #91 Gerald Poe and #85 Alan Williams, Jr. As the starting line up began their pace laps, the #00 machine of Raymond Johnson appeared to have some type of trouble as he exited the track and headed to the pits. Johnson did not make qualifying so this automatically put him at the tail end of the field. Luckily for Johnson, his troubles were that of a transponder not working correctly so he was able to make a quick fix and return to the track before the drop of the green. Around 8:45pm (EST) things began to heat up a notch as the green flag waved and put these figure 8 cars into action. Artie quickly took over the top spot followed by Chris Harmon, G. Isgrigg, G. Poe and J. Robert. There was racing from the front of the pack to the back. On lap 2, the #00 of Raymond Johnson and the #05 of Kevin Sewell got tangled, sending Johnson to the pits and Sewell making several trip in and out until finally retiring that ride. Meanwhile, Artie and the rest of the top 4 lined up and set themselves ahead of the rest of the field. It appeared that Artie would have a dominating performance but it was too early to tell. In an hour long race...an hour long figure 8 race at that...anything can happen! Five minutes into the show, Artie finds himself stuck behind some lap traffic. This allows for Chris Harmon to pull close to Artie's bumper but also separates the front two for the 3rd and 4th place cars. As the top 2 continue to put cars a lap down, a battle for 5th place was taking place between the #85 of Alan Williams, Jr. and the #91 of Gerald Poe with Williams capturing the spot. Although, the field is becoming spread out, the intersection was pretty calm- there were several close calls but no serious contact. They had only completed a little over 10 minutes when the #55 of Bud "Budman" Russell lost a transmission creating lots of smoke which fogged up the intersection. This could have made it very interesting but surprisingly everyone made it through unharmed. Back up front, the action was picking up. Artie and Chris began battling side by side for a few laps. On lap 66, Chris challenged Artie for that top spot. It appeared that Artie was not going to let go. On lap 68, Chris Harmon took over the leadership role and never looked back. Unless something unfortunate was going to happen, you could almost predict the finishing order as the top 5 remained as it had most of the evening. Plus, at the point, there were only a handful of cars left competing. As we all know, in an event such as this, it is not over until the checkered flag falls. And guess what? On lap 153, 55.24 minutes into the hour long race, the red flags is brought out. The #79 of Jerry Newkirk catches fire after running several laps with the car backfiring and not running so mechanically sound. This red flag gives the drivers a chance to cool the tires, take a deep breath and plan their attack. All Chris Harmon had to do was keep himself out of trouble and out front. Artie ran 2nd and #27 Ricky Heine had silently moved into the 3rd position. The remaining 5 minutes had you guessing if Artie would be able to hold off a charging Heine or not. Heine did all he could do to pressure Artie but was unable to succeed. On lap 165 the clock had reached 60.00 minutes bringing out the checkered and the end to an exciting event that anyone would have been proud to have their name mentioned as the winner. As you know, there is only one winner and that was Chris Harmon. Rounding out the top 5 were Artie B. Ware in 2nd, Ricky Heine in 3rd, Greg Isgrigg in 4th and Alan Williams, Jr in 5th. So, all in all, the racing was great! As the weather warms up and season progresses, I look for many more cars, more fans in the stands ( hey, keep in mind it was COLD) and many more battles on and off the track so be sure to plan a trip to The Sportsdrome to check out the action packed Xtreme Winged Figure 8 cars.
