Media personalities, park fans and local dignitaries were on hand to witness the historic announcement and ground breaking ceremony. Dallas Jones, President and owner of Beech Bend Park, Inc., announced plans for a multi-million dollar park expansion and several significant improvements to the existing facilities. The new attractions and enhancements are slated to be open for the 2010 season. Water Park Expansion Plans The expansion plans include a wave pool, lazy river and water play structure. The 275,000-gallon wave pool will be the centerpiece of the new water park expansion. It is being designed by Family Fun Corporation and CDI of Ohio and will include waves generated by Murphy Waves. It will feature eight wave chambers and can generate eight different wave patterns from mild to wild. The 1,100 foot long lazy river will feature a “not so lazy” component as it is connected directly to the wave pool. Waves generated from the wave pool flow into the river causing a unique ocean motion effect. The four-story play structure will feature seven slides, cascading waterfalls and interactive water elements all contained in a 72,000-gallon zero entry pool. The structure was designed by Texas based Fun Works Design Group and will feature a tropical theme complete with toucans, surf boards, tiki statues and palm trees. Beech Bend Park is sponsoring a contest to name the wave pool, lazy river and play structure. Contestants can go to beechbendpark@msn.com to submit a name for each attraction----please put "contest" in the subject line and identify which attraction the name is being submitted for. Contestants can enter as often as they want. If a submitted name is chosen, the winner will receive a family four pack of tickets to Beech Bend Park. The contest will end on December 31, 2009. If duplicate winning names are submitted, the first one submitted will be declared the winner. Exciting New Ride Additions In addition to the water park expansion, two new rides will be added, a Family Tea Cup and a Quad Runner children’s ride. The new Family Tea Cup Ride will replace the mini tea-cup ride that has been in the park for several years. The ride is a larger, family size ride being constructed in Italy by Zamperla Rides. The new Quad Runner Ride is for the little ones in the family. This ride is a new version of the Hampton Combo ride that is next to the Tornado. It features Quad Runners as the ride vehicles. It's sure to be a hit! Other New Additions A new amphitheatre will also be added for the 2010 season. The new facility will include a 60 foot wide stage area, three dressing rooms and private restrooms and will seat 400 people. Beech Bend Park will feature a new musical production for 2010 and two favorites will return. The popular magic show starring Master Illusionist Dinky Gowen will return. The magic show features good ole’ fashioned family fun with magic, lots of laughs and some ventriloquism antics. The Beech Bend Super Star Talent Show was a huge hit and will return in 2010 also. Several winners from the 2009 season were discovered while performing at Beech Bend and are pursuing many great leads generated by the show. Other 2010 enhancements will include a new employee break room, restrooms and a first aid facility. Economic Impact This expansion project will have an immediate effect on the Bowling Green region. From concept to completion, this multi-million dollar park expansion will have an immediate economic impact on the area. “We have hired local workers to begin phase one of the project,” said Jones. “Each phase will require different types of local talent.” Beech Bend also expects the expansion to create an additional 50 jobs for the 2010 summer season. (April 15, 2009) – Race weekend at Rockingham kicks off this Friday when the UARA Late Model Series takes to the track for practice and qualifying before their race Saturday afternoon. The entry list contains a mixture of youth as well as veterans who will be attempting to win the first late model race at the Rockingham Speedway. The youth side contains some big names in motorsports; Pressley, McReynolds and Grissom. Third generation driver Coleman Pressley, son of Robert Pressley and developmental driver for JTG Daugherty Racing is no stranger to victory lane in late model competition having won several races last season at multiple tracks. Pressley will be attempting to win his first UARA race and make it into the Rock’s victory lane. Larry McReynolds might be in Phoenix this weekend announcing the NASCAR Sprint Cup race for FOX, but his heart will be with his son, Brandon who will be running the UARA race a few hours before the Cup telecast. McReynolds won his first UARA race last season picking up the win at Franklin County Speedway. Kyle Grissom has been a force in the late model ranks for several years now and will be looking to join his father Steve Grissom, the 1993 NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion, with a win at Rockingham. Steve won the 1990 Nationwide race at Rockingham while Kyle was one of the fastest cars in recent testing for the UARA race. “It would be neat to come here and win and run good where he [Steve Grissom] has won so we will see what we can do,” said Kyle Grissom. “I mainly feel lucky to have him helping me.” Other young drivers to watch for include: Matt DiBenedetto, Brennan Poole, Darrell Wallace, Jr., Dylan Presnell, Joey Coulter and John Stancill. The veterans will not make it easy on the young stars during the 70-lap race and will want to claim the top prize for themselves. Clayton Rogers has already chiseled his name into the rock, having won the Pro Cup race at the track last November. Rogers will be looking to become the first two time winner at the track since it reopened for racing last year. He was one of the fastest cars during the open test last month. Only one race of the UARA season has actually been run so far, thanks to Mother Nature. Matt McCall was the winner of that race at the Bristol Motor Speedway leading the most laps on his way to the win. McCall will try and make it two in a row for the series with a win on Saturday. Jamie Caudill will be looking to gain one position from Bristol where he finished second in the season’s only race so far. Another good run could see Caudill leave Rockingham with the UARA points lead. Rockingham’s Randy Benson and Late Model legend Hal Goodson are two more veterans on the UARA entry blank. Developmental drivers are another part of the mix of the UARA Series. Coleman Pressley with JTG Daugherty Racing was already mentioned, but he will not be the only developmental driver in the field. Joe Gibbs Racing developmental drivers Matt DiBenedetto and Darrell Wallace Jr. are both racing this Saturday as well as John King driving for Bill Elliott Racing. JR Motorsports owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have two cars in the race with Jamie Caudill and Richard Boswell driving. Carolina 200 race weekend kicks off on Friday April 17th with Thunderfest in downtown Rockingham from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. There will be a hauler parade through downtown Rockingham at noon on Friday for the day-long celebration as well as most of the drivers signing autographs at 6:00 p.m. On track activities begin Friday as well with UARA practice and qualifying. Saturday April 18th will feature the UARA race and practice and qualifying for the ARCA cars. The Carolina 200 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday April 19th. Reserved seat tickets for the Carolina 200 start at $20 with kids 12 and under admitted for only $15 in any section with paid adult. FENWICK SET TO RETURN IN 2009Indianapolis, IN - March 30, 2009 - IOFS (International Outlaw Figure 8 Series) officials announced today that veteran Rich Fenwick will be behind the wheel full-time with the newly formed IOFS series. Fewick will make his return at the season opener May 3rd at Kentucky Motor Speedway in Whitesville, KY.Fenwick, the 1994 National Figure 8 champ, has only competed twice since his retirement in 2001. “The two Outlaw races they had at Anderson last year are what got me excited about getting back in it “insists Fenwick. " I've been wanting to run Anderson with these cars again, so it was perfect timing".Car owner, Steve Brown, has told Fenwick to run when he wants to. Fenwick stated that he will run the entire IOFS campaign and a few of the bigger events at the Edco Welding Indianapolis Speedrome. “You can’t pass up on an option like that. I might end up doing a couple of races at the Drome, maybe the big ones" explained Fenwick.Fenwick has stayed involved in the sport since his 2001 retirement. He estimates that he has built around twenty-five cars during this time. Fenwick is quick to point out that he currently has cars competing in Michigan, Florida and Indiana." This is the first year since I've been doing this that I haven’t built anybody a car".As the new season approaches Fenwick explains he feels great since a surgery two years ago. “I feel like I'm twenty years old again" he states proudly. Ziemann has indicated that he will return to the Midwest this fall and plans on competing in the October 10th IOFS season ending event at Anderson Speedway. The event will be the IOFS Championship Night and will be Ziemann's first time to the legendary speedway.The series has landed a new sponsor for its 2009 ' Hard Charger ' award at each IOFS event this coming season.
