Bowling Green, Ky. – The 10th Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA (June 14-16) not only puts on a thrilling drag race, it’s also the place to walk and gawk at thousands of beautiful cars entered in the SoffSeal Show ‘N’ Shine and Memory Lane. For a decade, car lovers and hot rodders have come to the Reunion’s Show ‘N’ Shine to see a variety of cars (nearly 2,000) including customs, classics, street rods, race cars, muscle cars, and trucks held at the beautiful Beech Bend Raceway grounds.

New for the 10th - Street Rodder magazine and Painless Performance has named the Reunion as one of the 10 premier U.S. events – this means show car participants will have yet another coveted award up for grabs. Street Rodder Magazine staff will select 10 significant cars or trucks at the Reunion . These rods will be pictured in Street Rodder magazine and will be posted on the Painless Performance Presents the Street Rodder Top 100 section of www.streetrodder.com

“We are very pleased to have Painless Performance and Street Rodder Magazine as part of the SoffSeal Show ‘N’ Shine program, and now participants will have another amazing incentive to join,” said Eileen Daniels , Show N Shine organizer, “Fans from all over the U.S. return to Bowling Green to be a part of this family fun event and just to be at the Reunion is rewarding!”

The SoffSeal Show ‘N’ Shine is limited to ’72 and earlier vehicles in the Hot Rod, Street Rod, Rat Rod, Custom, Classic, Muscle Car, Truck, Classic Chevy ’55-’57, Street Gasser, Pro Street, and Open Class ’58-’63 categories, and a Memory Lane class for historic race cars is available. All Show ‘N’ Shine and Memory Lane cars are eligible for the Reunion’s Top 50, Street Rodder Magazine Top 10, and Best of the Best awards entitling them to display at the Mac Tool U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis . An extra treat for hungry eyes will be the 2012 AMSOIL Vintage Air Street Rodder Tour caravan of beautiful rods.

On Thursday following a full day of fun at the track, the party continues at the Reunion’s friendly host hotel, the Holiday Inn University Plaza Hotel and Sloan Convention Center . Show N Shine participants and everyone in town is invited to the Heacock Classic Insurance 10th Anniversary Party starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Every year, the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, city officials and community members give Reunion fans a taste of true Southern charm. Music, food, prizes and a ribbon cutting are all part of this special gathering.

If you’re interested in joining the fun, register your car online or call today. The Show ‘N’ Shine entry fee for all categories is $65 and includes vehicle registration, three-day driver credential, one guest credential, and a goody bag (advance sales only). The pre-entry deadline is June 1. Purchase early and get $10 off and a goody bag. AAA members, show your card and save. Kids 15 and under are admitted free with paid adult admission.

Today's Featured Story

I had the pleasure to meet this fine racer today.  This story is about John Messina (Pictured above).  John was telling me that back in 1973 he came to Bowling Green and raced at Beech Bend Raceway Park.  The funny part of this story was that he took his bike apart and hauled it in the trunk of his car.  While other teams had nice trailers.  John also said,  his son would ride on the old wooden rides at Beech Bend Park while they were here racing.  As we talked John expressed his thanks to Dallas Jones and family who has really made Beech Bend Raceway and Park so nice and clean.  John said he really likes this track and was glad that the Jones family got the track fixed back after the big flood back a couple years ago.  John's bike has the name "Time Tunnel" on it.  He is from Warren, MI.  John has been racing bikes for 52 years.  Thanks John for the interview.  We now have another racing friend.  Good luck John this weekend and in the 2012 season.

Holley NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

Bowling Green, Kentucky in June just got hotter with the new addition of Koolhouse Publishing's Rodz DeLuxe Lot featuring some cool customs, rods and even a few pin-up models at the 10th Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA, Father's Day weekend (June 14-16) at Beech Bend Raceway Park.

Koolhouse has been a long-time Reunion participant and fan so this first-time display is a perfect fit! The popular custom car and rods magazines Ol’ Skool Rodz and Car Culture DeLuxe has become a staple in every hot rodder's garage, and share the same passion and love of American car culture and drag racing history as the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum and the Hot Rod Reunions.

So get ready to get your socks knocked off with their cool display which will be located in the oval track at Beech Bend. If you have a traditional hot rod, gasser or custom, send your pics to alan@koolhousepublishing.com or Alan Mayes , Koolhouse Publishing PO Box 1928, Tullahoma , TN 37388. Send in your regular entry to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion staff (forms available on museum.nhra.com and click on "reunions"). Just send pics and car description for "Rodz Deluxe Lot" consideration to Alan.

On Saturday, one car will win the coveted "Rodz Deluxe Award" (a diecast plaque designed by artist Max Grundy and produced by O’Brien Truckers) and perhaps a photo in an issue of the magazine.

In addition, Koolhouse is raising the mercury level and breaking thermometers with the first-ever Ol’ Skool Rodz Pin-Up Doll contest. Contact Alan if interested in being a contestant.

Be at the hottest place this June 14-16 for the 10th anniversary of the Holley NHRA Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA. It's going to be sweltering and you'll be whistling like a tea kettle!

Tickets are on sale now at www.nhratix.com or, by calling 800-884-6472. Three-day credentials are just $65 (advance sales only) which includes three days of fun, a goody bag with commemorative dash plaque and a reunion program.

For further details of all events at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum visit our web site at museum.nhra.com or, call 909.622.2133.

Greathouse Motorsports set a new 275 drag radial record for the quickest and fastest pass in history

Photo Courtesy of Austin Acker Photography
By Justin McChesney -  At the ORTC “Lights Out 3” Race at South Georgia Motorsports Park, Greathouse Motorsports set a new 275 drag radial record for the quickest and fastest pass in history. In round 3 qualifying, Joel Greathouse in his 1990 silver Fox Mustang posted a 4.565 at 162.47 in the eighth mile. It was accomplished on the newly released Mickey Thompson 275 drag radial. The car is powered by a Bennett Racing 434” small block Ford with a 98mm Precision Turbo with an 88mm reducer. The pass was also a record for any single turbo vehicle on any size drag radial. Greathouse Motorsports would like to thank Bennett Racing, Precision Turbo, Kolivas Racing, TCI transmissions, Pro Torque converters, VP Racing Fuels, and Mickey Thompson Tires for making this possible.
