POSTED 5-31-09 HAS ANTHONY RUSSELL REALLY CHANGED?

Anthony showed great sportsmanship the first race. Then his second race we see him hit Tony Rothe coming out of turn two and push him all the way down the back stretch and then turn Tony just before entering turn three. I was standing in turn one on the wall and could see this very good. I also could hear the engine and it never sounded like Anthony was lifting his foot. Hey, I'm not trying to down Anthony, I even put my neck out there and said we need to give him another chance. I took a lot of crap for it too! I would like to hear from both drivers and NOT your crew and friends, family and etc. But from my view it look like another bad judgement call on Anthony or just simply BAD SPORTSMANSHIP! Fans be nice and fair, but what did you see? Post your comments today. Again, please drivers you have the chance to set me straight if this is NOT true. My site is NEWS and RUMORS!

POSTED 5-31-09 CURTIS BUTLER AND TERRY GILL, JR. INCIDENT

Hey, folks I didn't see how this started. However, when I looked up the cars were fighting hard hitting each other. I will say from turn one in which I was standing it looked more like Curtis was more the aggressor. I have also been contacted by several different people about this race. I didn't know this and still don't know for sure but have had calls and emails that Curtis and Terry had words in the pits and that Curtis hit Terry and knocked Terry to the ground. Everyone that contacted me said that Curtis started the fight and that Terry after being knocked to the ground walked away. Again remember , this story is hear say. I did hear security being called to the 8c car. Hey guys this kind of action needs to STOP!

POSTED 5-26-09 FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY RACE RECAP

Fairgrounds Speedway Wrap: Rowdy Night in Music City! By contributing writers Paul Jensen, Rob Spires & Tammy Brewington It was a wild night of racing at Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday that saw Andy Johnson, the reigning track champion, and former track champion Mark Day both losing their poise and later receiving harsh penalties for their actions. NASCAR driver and two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin was also penalized for working on his car under a red flag. Where have we seen that before? The occasion for the gathering was the Full Throttle 200 presented by Nossi College of Art. Top Late Model drivers from throughout the area converged on the grand old track for an evening of banging and bumping, and that's exactly what happened. The rivalry between reigning champion Andy Johnson and former champ Mark Day goes back several years. Saturday night it boiled over. The race was to run in three segments, the first for 100 laps, then 50 laps, and then a final 50 laps for the cash. A bonus was on the table for anyone who could win all three segments from the inverted fields. The fun started after qualifying when it was determined Michael House's car had illegal tires, so he was sent to the back of the starting grid. Chevy White jumped out into the lead at the start of the race, but he eventually fell back, was lapped, and then had to pit under green to change a flat tire, putting him several laps down. Daniel Pope passed White and took the lead on lap 18. Baker Curb Racing developmental driver Tommy Joe Martins and Marlin also passed White to take second and third. The first caution came out on lap 39 when Chuck Tuckspun on the frontstretch. Pope held the lead to the next caution at lap 73 when Martins and Day made contact with each other, sending Martins hard into the frontstretch wall, ending the night for him. Paul Connelly got loose and spun in turn 2 on lap 80. When the race restarted on lap 87, Joseph Meyer and Dean McIntyre got together near the entrance to turn 1, causing a red flag to come out as debris was strewn across the track. In the short shootout to the end of the first segment, Day passed Pope on the final lap to grab the lead going into the break. Pope, Sterling Marlin, Steadman Marlin, and Andy Johnson rounded out the top 5. An inversion of 6 was drawn for the second segment, putting Daniel Boldenin the lead, followed by Johnson, Steadman Marlin, Sterling Marlin, Pope and Day. On lap 106 the large crowd came to its feet as Sterling Marlin passed Pope for the lead in a move Nashville fans have witnessed for decades. Marlins' lead would be short-lived as four laps later, Day, who was simply running in a zone apart from everyone else, breezed by to retake the lead. By lap 132 the caution flew for a light mist that began falling over the backstretch and then enveloped the entire track. On lap 144 the track went to green-yellow, allowing the cars to go faster to help dry the track, but still no passing. After surveying crew chiefs and getting a mixed response, track officials were set to restart the race, but they had gotten to lap 150, the scheduled end of the second segment. Day won the second segment followed by Sterling Marlin, Pope, Bolden, and Johnson. If he could win the final segment, Day would score the $500 bonus. The third segment was to pay $1,400-to-win, so everyone was getting dialed in during the brief break between segments. An inversion of 6 was again drawn for the third segment. That put Steadman Marlin first, followed by Johnson, Bolden, Pope, Sterling Marlin, and Day. As the third segment began, all hell broke loose. Johnson passed Steadman for the lead and then Johnson and Day collided with each other in turn 1. The entire field was collected in the mess except Pope. After the cars untangled themselves and came around the track under the caution, Johnson and Day were playing bumper tag with each other. Day tagged Johnson at least twice between the backstretch and turn 4. When the cars came down pit road, Day stopped at his pit as Johnson pulled up next to him. Johnson then intentionally plowed his car into Day's stopped race car, pushing Day's car up against the pit wall as crew members and officials scurried behind the wall to avoid being injured. As the drivers got out of their cars, a large brawl ensued. As the ruckus grew, Steadman Marlin could be seen running from the south pit area to join the fracas. His father Sterling stayed in his pit box, watching the spectacle several stalls in front of him. Sterling eventually moved his car to the south pits, apparently ready to start loading up to leave, as at first race officials said they were going to call the race at that time. The red flag was out, thus Marlin was penalized for working on his car during the red flag, reminding fans of the famous incident in the 2002 Daytona 500 when Marlin, leading the race with six laps to go, hopped out of his car and began pulling on a fender during a red flag. He would finish 8th that day. Officials decided they had to let what cars remained race so a winner could be determined. Johnson was tossed out of the race, but Day was allowed to continue, although he too was penalized for working on his car during the red flag. It was determined by officials to run the race to 165 laps, as weather was threatening, and even though the normal 11:00 curfew was not in affect for the special race, it was well past 11:00 and track promoter Danny Denson made the call to end the race early. When the race resumed the leaders were Pope, Riverview Speedway lead foot Jimmy Victory, TW Fisher, and Bolden. Sterling Marlin ran a couple of laps, then took his ailing car to the hauler and called it a night. Pope ran the short distance to the win with Victory taking second. "Man, the fans got their money's worth tonight. It was wild out there with all the on-track and off-track craziness. I have to thank my whole racing operation for this win and also my parents and the fans for supporting my racing efforts," said an excited Pope. As hard as it is to believe, this was not the only race Saturday night at the Fairgrounds. The evening began on the 1/4 mile with the Legends Semi Pro/ Young Guns. A.J. Carlisi took the lead from the pole. The caution flew on lap 6 when C.J. Tuck broke a left front wheel and pulled off the track in turn 3. Another yellow flag flew on lap 14 when Ross Rollings, Tanner Derryberry, and Jake Dunsmorecrashed in turn 1. Dunsmore was done for the evening. Carlisi held off a strong rush from Cody Fernett on the final lap to take the win. In the Legends Pro/ Masters feature, Kenny Summers and Kevin Riggscrashed on the frontstretch going into turn 1 on the first lap. Both cars were too heavily damaged to continue. Tyler Slayden passed Chris Wilson for the lead coming out of turn 4 on the first lap. Wilson then pulled his car off the track. On lap 6 Josh Berrypassed Slayden for the lead, then held off a hard-charging Tyler Cordell for the win. Mitchell Vickers grabbed the lead from Art Choateat the end of the first lap of the Thunderstox feature. The caution flew on lap 19 when Stephanie Barnes spun by herself in turn 4. Travis Ryman spun by himself in turn 4 of lap 22, bringing out the yellow again. Mitchell Vickers then won the race while Charles Goddard prevailed in a 3-wide photo finish for 2nd. Robert Forsythe muscled his way past Clint Iveyto take the lead on the opening lap of the Super Stock feature. The caution flew on lap when 23 when Forsythe, still leading the race, spun by himself in turn 2. Charles Goddard took the lead and won the race pulling away from the field. Racing then moved to the 5/8-mile track, where Blake Carter spun Stacey Crain going into the first turn of the first lap, causing a complete restart for the Super Truck feature. Blake Williams jumped out to an early lead when the caution flew on lap 14 after Jason Adamsgot loose and hit the wall hard on the frontstretch. The red flag came out while the track was cleaned up. Williams held off hard charges from Clint Crowell and Bobby Buttrey to capture his first career victory. "This is my first win here at the Fairgrounds Speedway. My team and I have been digging for four long years and it finally paid off. I feel almost speechless. I have to dedicate this win to my father and the fans that support us. I had to hang on the last 5 laps because I was easing in the corners on very slick tires. I'm grateful for this win," stated Williams. Second-place finisher Crowell said, "I drove my butt off tonight. I have to give props to my crew tonight because even with my right rear burned up we still brought home the runner-up spot. This was a good night for this race team." Truck Series points leader Bobby Buttrey hung on to the points lead with a 3rd place finish. Buttrey said, "We had to do a motor change and start at the back so I knew I had my work cut out for me, but I have full faith in this phenomenal team to give me equipment to move to the front in any race. We're still on pace towards the Truck championship." In the Sportsman feature, Michael House pulled out to the lead after battling Jeff Belt through turns 1 and 2 on the opening lap. House held off spirited charges from Belt and Lee Goddard to win the lightning fast, caution-free race. House said, "It's really good to be back racing at the Fairgrounds Speedway and it was even nicer grabbing the win tonight. We had a strong car and I definitely want to thank my crew and all the fans who came out to support us." The evening was then topped off by what would be a 165-lap Late Model feature. Please stay tuned for an updated official results & points standings from Saturday, May 23.

POSTED 5-26-09 FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY ISSUES STATEMENT

A MESSAGE FROM TRACK PROMOTER DANNY DENSON (With quotes from Andy Johnson and Mark Day) I am so proud of the strides we have made and the things we have accomplished in a very short span of time at the Fairgrounds Speedway. This is without a doubt the greatest short track in America! We have so many exciting events on the horizon in 2009 with series' such as ASA, CRA, and Ken-Ten making an appearance later in the year. Our show this past weekend was an impressive night of competition on both tracks here at the Fairgrounds Speedway. I think it may have been the best show of the year to date. We now have new competitors in our Sportsman division, which is a big plus for the fans too. The Trucks are without a doubt the show the fans cannot wait to witness on the track with its non-stop action. In our Late Model division we feel we have some of the best racers in the country, but this past weekend short tempers gave way to dangerous actions by our current track champion Andy Johnson and former track champion Mark Day. The first 100 laps were exhilarating for the fans and the staff here at the track. The second leg of the action, the first 50 lap section, was also intense and eventful. But, the beginning of the last leg of the race, the second 50 laps, is where I have to draw the line as a respectable promoter. After the massive wreck on the track that virtually took out the entire field for a short while was not only an on-track melee, but it spilled over onto pit road. As the promoter of the Fairgrounds Speedway I will not tolerate drivers and/or their crews taking situations into their own hands and therefore endangering themselves, the pit crews, officials, and fans in the pit area. This has been an ongoing battle for several years between Johnson and Day, two of the best Late Model drivers in the country, but tempers flared past the acceptable stage on Saturday night. I fully understand the passion and talent these two drivers possess, but those attributes should be a deterrent to such behavior not a catalyst for a brawl to ensue. I have issued the following penalties against Johnson and Day: · Both drivers are disqualified from the event on Saturday, May 23 · Neither driver will receive points for the event · Neither driver will receive money for the event · Both drivers are suspended for one race · Andy Johnson is fined an additional $500 for his action on pit road as his actions could have resulted in severe injury or even death of a crew member, an official, or an innocent bystander in the pit area. Several other crew members from random teams will also be contacted and possibly fined or suspended for their involvement during the pit road clash. We are striving hard to make this track the premier destination for all racers. We want all racers to know this type of ill-advised conflict will not be tolerated and it will be penalized to the fullest at the Fairgrounds Speedway. I'm truly grateful for all the support we are receiving from the competitors and the community and I want to thank every one of them. THANK YOU! Sincerely, Danny Denson Fairgrounds Speedway Promoter Andy Johnson said, "I understand the penalties leveled against me. As far as the points and championship run I know I will have to come back after a week's suspension and win a lot of races." Mark Day said, "I guess I'll have to decide if I want to come back and race at the Fairgrounds Speedway anymore. It's something I'll have a week to think about and will make the best decision for me then."

POSTED 5-25-09 HRS RACE RECAP

Highland Rim Speedway Race Recap May 23, 2009 – It was a great night of racing at Highland Rim Speedway. For the first time in several weeks, rain was not a factor for the evening! The Rim Runners kicked off the night’s action with a caution free race. Kevin Figueroa led early with Donold Webb nipping at his bumper. Webb took the lead but Figueroa didn’t give an inch. The pair had a great run going all the way to the wire. Webb took the win by inches over Figueroa. Paul Lambert took third place followed by Cory Clark and Phillip Bilyeu for fourth and fifth respectively. Billy Schaffer showed them how it was done in the Challengers. Schaffer took the lead with the wave of the green and never looked back. By the half way point, Schaffer had lapped the fourth place car and with four laps put the third place car a lap down as well. Toby Tobitt tried to get a run on Schaffer but he fell short ending up second in the caution free race. Donald Ayers was third with Kenny Newsom taking home fourth place. Jamie VanEtten was posted as fifth place after mechanical troubles ended his run early. Seventeen cars started the Front Wheel Drive Modified feature race. Mark Cummings took only three laps to take the top spot. A mid race caution bunched the field up, erasing Cummings advantage over the rest of the field. On the restart, Joey Williams, Scott Conner and Tracy Storey, II had a great run chasing Cummings for the lead. Joey Williams and Scott Conner ran side by side for the final two laps as they gobbled up Cummings’ lead. Cummings took the checkers with Williams beating Conner at the stripe by inches for second. Tim Ezell led flag to flag in the Sportsman class. Matt Goodwin turned the heat up on Ezell early in the race, even getting completely sideways on lap 8. As Goodwin gathered it back up, Brice Crabtree sailed around him and set his sights on Ezell’s lead. Crabtree ran Ezell down as the laps ticked away, but time ran out. Ezell was victorious with Crabtree settling for second. Thomas Pannell cruised home for a third place finish. Johnathan Dishman finished a solid fourth place. Goodwin and Jonathan Wilhite, Jr. swapped a few love taps between them as they battled for position. Goodwin finally ended up taking the fifth spot. A few rain sprinkles fell as the Super Stocks took to the track. But that wasn’t enough to slow the field. Charlie Briley and Josh Hood pushed out early over the rest of the pack. Hood tried nearly every corner to take Briley’s lead away as Daniel Barnes quietly rolled through the field into third place. With just a handful of laps to go the top three were nose to tail as they circled the track. Briley took home the trophy. Barnes made his move past Hood on the final lap to come away second. “Little Man”, Roger Birdsong, Jr. was fourth. Tink Jackson rolled in fifth place. The Pro Trucks were scheduled to run a 100 lapper, but some of the competitors had mechanical issues earlier in the day during practice. Track officials decided to cut the laps in half due to the decreasing truck count. Ten trucks lined up for the race. Zach Evans used a restart on lap 12 to make his move on early race leader, Buddy Williams for the top spot. Evans grabbed the position and checked out on the field. Cautions bunched the field back together but each time; Evans would stretch out opening a cushion between him and the rest of the field. With just ten laps to go, Chuck Adcock was in place to make a run on Evans. Adcock went into turn four a little hot and broke loose. Adcock pulled it back in line as Evans opened up a little distance over him. Jay Jay Williams and Matt Spurlock ran hard chasing down Adcock. With two laps to go, Jay Jay drove into the turn too deep, looping it and bringing out the final caution. Evans sailed on to the checkers beating Adcock by less than a truck length. Spurlock had a great night finishing third. Buddy Williams got by Bobby Wingo on the final restart to finish fourth. Taxis ended the night with an action packed race that went all the way down to the wire. The top five cars of Jim Bork, Michael Womack, Terry Swift, William Newton, and Tink Jackson pulled out into their own race. On lap 5, Jackson pulled into the infield with a fire under the hood of his racer. Crew members jumped to action quickly putting the fire out but his night was through. Swift used the old chrome horn on Womack to take over the lead. Just past half way, Swift completed the pass. It looked like the race was his as he ticked off cars. With only a handful of laps to go, a lapped car got loose going into turn one and collected Swift as he crossed down into his line. Not only did Swift get caught up, so did Womack. The lead went to Bork for the restart. Bork shot out over Newton for the lead and the win! Bork and Newton were a full straight ahead of Kenny Newsom who finished third. Dean Phelps was posted in fourth in his first run of the season. Swift wound up finishing fifth. Racing continues next weekend at the Rim. POSTED 5-20-09 TWO DRIVERS TO RETURN AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY PARK

Two drivers back at Beech Bend Raceway Park. After some time off two drivers are back and were out last night (Tue.) testing. (Top Photo) Anthony Russell back in the modified street class after sitting out much of the season in 2008. At the time of Anthony's exit last year he was the points leader. (Bottom Photo) This is the car owned by Eric "Bubbio" Johnson. Last year it ran just a few figure-8 races with Gary Brock behind the wheel. With the figure-8 being dropped at Beech Bend Raceway, Eric has come out as the driver of this car in the modified street class. Good luck to you both! See you Friday night. POSTED 5-19-09 EMAIL FROM DRIVER OF THE IOFS

First, I would like to thank everyone that came along to KMS for their support and help. It is really appreciated and I hope everyone gets a chance to attend some of the other IOFS races. As the series moves forward, it will continue to grow and get better and better. A huge thank you and job well done goes out to Charlie Hargraves and his people for putting this series together. Not to mention all that Scott Greer and his staff did in order to get KMS ready for the weekend due to the flood. I got the chance to meet Charlie and several of the other drivers and each of them are outstanding people. I really look forward to racing with them again. I have plans to attend all of the scheduled IOFS races, the next one being June 13th in Plymouth, IN., in hopes of bringing home the Yardarm Chassis that will be given away to the highest finishing stocker in the IOFS points championship. As of now, I am leading those points standings. There are 8 scheduled events left on the IOFS tour with most of those being held at Plymouth and Anderson, IN., two of these 8 races being held back here in the Bluegrass state. I am hoping that some sponsors will come on board to help with the fuel and tire bill. It will be a great opportunity to give a "local boy" a chance to keep running with the big dogs! I would love to stay here in BG to race figure 8 but the IOFS has brought something new and exciting to the table. Had the IOFS not been formed, I do not know if I or some of the others would have the chance to run at some of these other figure 8 tracks, experience something new and gain some exposure. So, I hope that many of my fans and sponsors that has been with me throughout the years at BBR will continue to give their support as I make my attempt to finish well in the IOFS points standings. If there is anyone that is willing to help out, I certainly would appreciate it. If interested, they can contact me or Angie for additional details. I'm not asking for much...just a little help. Again, thanks to all that helped me out at KMS and to everyone that showed up in the stands. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Hope to see yall at some of the other events as well! (Oh, and Odell, the pictures turned out great! I wouldn't worry about the quality...they are fine. Angie has a list a mile long she'll be ordering soon, lol. Keep up the good work)! Doodle NOTE: THIS WAS SENT TO ME VIA EMAIL FROM DOODLE.

POSTED 5-18-09 THE IOFS PHOTOS FROM KMS HAVE BEEN POSTED

I would like to thank all of you for the email's that I received asking about pictures from KMS of the IOFS. Yes, I did take the camera but only to get some shots for the blog site. However, with so many asking for them I have put them on my site. Remember these photos my be blurry, have fence, post and electric wires in them. I was in the grandstand at the very top and a long ways from the track. Be sure to look at the photo close up. You don't have to buy them to look at them, looking is FREE. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed the races. Go to www.photosbyodell.photoreflect.com

POSTED 5-18-09 NEWS ABOUT RACES AT KMS

First let me say, I sorry for the quality of the photos on the next few post about racing at KMS on Sunday, May 17. I was at the very top of the bleachers on the spectator side. I had to shoot through fences, electric wires, post and sometimes people standing up in front of me. I was not in the infield. I would say to Bowling Green drivers, you did a great job. We had drivers in four classes. Open Wheel with a win, Front Runner with a second place, Figure-8 with a fourth and Thunder class with a DNF. Overall Bowling Green drivers made us proud. Good job guys!

POSTED 5-18-09 LOCAL FIGURE-8 DRIVER GETS A TOP FIVE FINISH IN THE IOFS AT KMS

Richard "Doodle" Dickens of Bowling Green and 5 time Figure-8 champion from Beech Bend Raceway Park raced in the new IOFS. Doddle made the field of 17 cars and turned it into a great night. He got the "Hard Charger Award" and got the bonus money for the best finishing non-winged/Stock car. ($200.00) and then finished 4th overall. Great job Doodle! Congratulations.

POSTED 5-18-09 KMS AND IOFS IS A SUCCESS

Race fans, after rain outs finally the new figure-8 series (IOFS) makes it for the first night of the 2009 series. And was it wild? Yes, and crazy. KMS had a very good crowd on hand as you can see in the photo above and that was just about half of the crowd. The other side which I didn't shoot was just as full. Scott Greer congratulations goes out to you. And Charlie Hargrove the series director of the new IOFS, congratulations to you. 17 cars took the green flag. There were other cars that came but had trouble before the race started. KMS and IOFS you did a great job. Beech Bend Raceway park is my home track and I sure hope Dallas and the IOFS finalizes the September 18 date.

POSTED 5-18-09 TWO IOFS CARS MAKE A SPLASH AT KMS

In the top photos, the #1 figure-8 car spins and makes the mud fly. Then in the bottom photos #80 Butch Winters tries out the mud. At least Butch gets out of his car and takes the water hose to it. This site would like to give the MUD award to Butch and the #1 car to share. Better luck next race guys.

POSTED 5-18-09 NASCAR MAY HAVE A DRIVER NICKNAMED SMOKE, BUT WE HAVE A DRIVER THAT SHOULD BE NICKNAMED FIRE

Can you say HOT! This driver is on FIRE! You have always heard that where there is smoke there is FIRE. Bowling Green's open wheel modified driver #30 Daniel Young. Daniel has won both the first race and second race of the 2009 season at KMS. Daniel built this car to run at Beech Bend Raceway Park but with very low car count this class was cut out. Daniel then takes advantage of the newly reopening by Scott Greer of the KMS track. Congratulations Daniel! (NOTE: Daniel is from Richardsville, KY.)

POSTED 5-17-09 MATT MELTON HAS A MUDDY EXPERIENCE

Bowling Green's Matt Melton in the #11 Chevy didn't have the night he wanted. With all the rain in the past weeks the infield was very muddy. Matt found that out as shown above. Matt spun in turn two and took his car into the grass infield. The raced was stopped and the wrecker had to pull him out. Oh well Matt there will be another day. Better luck next race.

POSTED 5-18-09 BOWLING GREEN DRIVER TERRY GILL MAKES A GOOD SHOWING!

As shown in the photo above, Terry Gill of Bowling Green, KY. did a very good job at KMS. Terry ran a very fast race finishing second of 15+ cars. Good job and Congratulations!

POSTED 5-18-09 YOUNG DRIVER GETS FIRST WIN AT KMS

The races were very exciting at Kentucky Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 17. With the IOFS (New Figure-8 Series) putting on a great show. But that wasn't the only show in town on Sunday. Seventeen year old Jeffery Barnett, driving his #38 Chevy, got his first win. I talked to his Dad and this was his second race in a full size car. Last race he finished a very close second. Tonight, Jeffery had fast time and then drew the #one spot and got to start on the poll. As the green flag waved, Jeffery hauled that #38 machine off into turn one very deep and to my surprise he made it work. He didn't just do it once. The yellow flag was thrown a couple more times and he did it each time. I believe this kid is someone to be heard of in years to come.
