ASA Late Model Stock Cars Test at The Rock
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (June 8, 2009) – The drivers and teams of the ASA Late Model Stock Car took to the track today to get an education in all things “Rock.”
The series held an open test at the Rockingham Speedway in anticipation of the Fourth of July running of the Cheerwine Cherry Bomb 200 and learning was the name of the game for the drivers and crews.
“We are just trying to get comfortable with the car here this morning,” said Helotes, Texas native Kyle Sirizzotti. “This place is so much bigger and different than most of the places we run. It kind of reminds me of a super-sized Bristol. The car really sits down in the corner.”
Brian Blum, who turned the most laps and was second-fastest in the morning session, echoed those sentiments.
“We are trying to get a feel for what the car is going to do here.” said the 18-year old from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. “We are really looking forward to bringing back what we learn here today next month and running well in the Cherry Bomb.”
The Cheerwine Cherry Bomb 200 is a special double header race featuring the Kimmel Street Stock Series and the ASA Late Model Series.
The ASA portion of the 200 will include 100 laps of racing for ‘America’s Premiere Short Track Series.’ The ASA Late Model Series uses a crate engine, coil over shocks with a fiberglass body on the 2,700 lbs. cars.
Tickets for the Cheerwine Cherry Bomb 200 are $10 for adults with children under 12 admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket. For more information or to order tickets, please contact the speedway at (910) 205-8800 or visit our website at www.rockinghamspeedway.com.
