By Odell Turner /Bowling Green, KY.- The AMRA All Harley Drags were in town this weekend. Today was the final day of the event. We saw bikes of all divisions hit the 1/4 mile track at Beech Bend Raceway Park in the last three days. The top fuel bikes had a hard time making passes with the heat/air effecting the fuel. On Sunday the air cooled by almost 10 degrees with the humidity a lot cooler. Everything was going great until late Sunday afternoon, when biker Tom Schwartz made a run down the 1/4 track with a E.T. of 7.615 seconds and a speed of 156.26 M.P.H. and then something happened. From my point of view it looked like Tom hit the wall in his lane (Left lane/Budweiser lane) and then his body comes off the bike and comes to a stop in the right lane near the middle of the track while his bike travel several feet on to the end of the track. ABOVE: (TOP PHOTO) Shown here is Tom making his run just before the wreck. (SECOND PHOTO FROM TOP) Tom lying in the middle of the track where his body came to rest. (THIRD PHOTO FROM TOP) Tom as the safety workers prepare to load him in the ambulance. (FOURTH PHOTO FROM THE TOP) Tom as they put him in the ambulance. NOTE: I have not gotten a report from Beech Bend Raceway, AMRA or Family on Tom's condition. Tom was alert when he was taken from Beech Bend Raceway. I was told that he was taken to Bowling Green Medical Center. I will post updates as I have them. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom and his family. UPDATE 6-30-09: TOM SUFFERED ONLY A BROKEN WRIST AND RETURNED HOME. GLAD TO REPORT THE GOOD NEWS.
