POSTED 6-2-09 FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY'S SPECIAL GUEST

SPEEDWAY’S SPECIAL GUESTS Contributing writers: Tammy Brewington & Rob Spires Fairgrounds Speedway Public Relations In addition to the thousands of fans who regularly attend the weekly races at the Fairgrounds Speedway, promoter Danny Denson has set aside tickets for a few extra-special spectators. Students from the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center (TRC) are able to enjoy the races as part of their Recreational Services program. “We are so grateful to the Fairgrounds Speedway staff for the tickets and allowing us to bring the students out for a fun night of racing. Many of the kids are big race fans, so it is special for them to be there. Because the students are disabled, it’s good to get them out to have fun when we can. We all love the experience and the students talk about it for weeks,” said Recreational Therapist Roby Lanius. TRC is a comprehensive residential rehabilitation facility located 25 miles south of Nashville in Smyrna, Tennessee that offers specialized programs and services within a campus environment. There are many different programs to prepare individuals with disabilities for employment and greater independence. TRC aptly serves clients of the Division of Rehabilitation Services from all 95 counties in the state of Tennessee. Some of these programs include, but are not limited to, vocational training, job objective and behavioral services, transitional living skills, and support services. Students attending the TRC are all young adults between the ages of 18 and 25. The TRC has partnered with the Fairgrounds Speedway for the past four years, and it is a partnership that will continue into the future. “We feel privileged to be associated with such a fine group at the Rehabilitation Center. We’re always willing to extend a hand to youngsters and young adults with special needs. We try to reach out to as many community programs as possible and to partner with them in various ways,” said Denson. The Fairgrounds Speedway happily welcomes the students as not only our special guests, but as part of the speedway family.
