ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (March 10, 2009) – One year ago, the open ARCA test was the first chance for race teams to get back to the Rockingham Speedway and prepare for the first major race at the track in several years. A year later, just as many teams are expected back for the 2009 open test to once again get the invaluable track time at the tricky one-mile speedway.
The test is this Saturday, March 14th and on track practice will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude at 5:00 p.m. with a one hour lunch break at noon. With all three NASCAR touring series off this weekend, being at the track in Rockingham will be the only opportunity for race fans to see stock cars on a superspeedway this weekend.
As always for the open tests at Rockingham, fans will be admitted free into the grandstands.
One of the drivers scheduled to be here this weekend is Justin Loftin – he was the highest finishing series regular in the season opening Daytona race and will have a very strong car for the Carolina 200.
Drew Herring is coming off of a second place finish during the Pro Cup American 200 at the Rockingham Speedway and is now adding the ARCA RE/MAX Series to his resume. Drew will be driving for the same team, the No. 92 BTS Tire and Wheel Distributors/Hog Slat car for his first ARCA Series open test session while he prepares for a selected number of ARCA starts in 2009.
Bryan Silas will be back at Rockingham – Bryan was the only driver to compete in all three races on the one-mile track last season. Bryan ran an ARCA car in the Carolina 500, a Pro Cup car in the American 200 and a Kimmel Street Stock Car in the Polar Bear 150.
Another driver ready to break through in the series is Tom Hessert. Tom led the most laps in the American 200 Pro Cup race at Rockingham and almost won the race with a fantastic third place finish.
Among the names already on the Rockingham Speedway wall of winners is Chad Hackenbracht thanks to his win in a Legends Car last season at Rockingham. Chad is fresh out of the inaugural Fast Track High Performance Development Driver driving school having tested an ARCA car on Little Rock, Rockingham’s half-mile track. Chad will get his first laps on the one-mile track this weekend at the ARCA open test.
Venturini Motorsports will be back to defend their race win with a new driver, Sean Caisse. Sean will be piloting the No. 25 car with the team that propelled Joey Logano to the first Rockingham win just a season ago.
Teams are using this test to prepare for the Carolina 200 on April 19th. Carolina 200 race weekend kicks off on Friday April 17th with Thunderfest in downtown Rockingham from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. There will be a hauler parade through downtown Rockingham at noon on Friday for the day-long celebration as well as most of the drivers signing autographs at 6:00 p.m.
On track activities begin Friday as well with UARA practice and qualifying. Saturday April 18th will feature the UARA race and practice and qualifying for the ARCA cars. The Carolina 200 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday April 19th.
Reserved seat tickets for the Carolina 200 start at $20 with kids 12 and under admitted for only $15 in any section with paid adult. Tickets for Saturday April 18th are only $15 in advance or $20 the day of the race with kids 12 and under free with a paid adult for general admission seating. Friday is free admission for everyone.
