ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (February 5, 2009) – The last few weeks have brought big announcements from the Rockingham Speedway concerning all of the new races scheduled for 2009 at the historic track. Today’s news features the return of a series to the speedway – the Pro Cup Series will race on Saturday October 10th, 2009.
The series formerly known as USAR Pro Cup is now known as USARacing. The race will be 150 laps and will be on the Saturday before the ARCA RE/MAX Series championship race on October 11th, 2009.
Fans attending the USARacing Pro Cup race will also get to see ARCA practice and qualifying the same day.
Last year’s Pro Cup race was a great one that saw Clayton Rodgers win with Drew Herring in second place and Tom Hessert finishing third, all taking the checkered flag within 10-car lengths of each other.
"Having the Pro Cup Series back means a lot and it will make for an incredible race weekend in October," said Rockingham Speedway President, Andy Hillenburg. “The schedule for our 2009 season will be action-packed for all of our fans.”
There are now seven races scheduled for the one-mile oval at Rockingham. The UARA-Stars Late Model Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series will open the 2009 season with their races on April 18th and 19th, respectively. July 4th will see the Cherry Bomb 200 featuring the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Series and the ASA Late Model Series racing 100 laps each for the Independence Day double-header. The second annual Polar Bear 150 is scheduled for January 1st.
Tickets for the ARCA and UARA races have been going quickly since each race was announced. Tickets are available at the speedway ticket office or for purchase by phone.
