This was taken at my house in 1986. It was my very first stock car. I raced this car at Highland Rim Speedway in a enduro race. The race was 300 lap race. There were 69 cars started that race and I started last because I got there late and the draw had just been done. Tommy Climer, Kevin Lamastus, Darrell Miller, Bubba Fomosa and many more was in that race. I didn't do to good in my very first race. I made it 21 laps before I was put on top of the wall. Oh well, that's racing (At least that is what they say!)

I took this picture at Beech Bend in 1986. The # 11 Budweiser Chevy was driven by Mike Witherspoon, which is standing to the right of the car. Think somebody helped him into the wall? I bet Mike could tell you. I talked to Mike at his father-in law (Pat Cassady's) funeral. It was bad to see Mike at a sad time like that, but I was still glad to talk to him. Mike we miss you at the Bend.

POSTED 2-18-08 BOBBY BURTON WAS KILLED TODAY IN A ACCIDENT.

Several of us that race knew Bobby Burton. Today Bobby was on Crewdson Drive only one house down from my parents, as he was loading some old wood into his pickup in a yard a woman ran off the road and hit Bobby and then hits truck. Bobby passed away from that injury. I for one had had lunch with Bobby different times. I had been to his garage many times too. Bobby will be missed by many of his friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family. Bobby Rest in Peace.

POSTED 2-16-08 EMAIL FROM ANGIE DICKENS ABOUT THE SHOOTING AT NIU

This is a bit of non-racing news but please remind everyone to keep the victims of the NIU shooting in their prayers. That tragedy hits a little close to home for me. My aunt is the secretary to John Peters (NIU's president) and was only yards from the shooter. This is just a glimpse of what CAN happen...we should not take each day for granted. At times what we think is important really isn't. It is a real uneasy feeling see what events took place on the tv and then not being able to contact you loved ones. I could only imagine what the parents are going through. I am sure they could use our prayers. Thank you, Ang85 (Angie Dickens)

Funeral is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (2-6-08) at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue Chapel. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight(2-5-08).
