HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BEECH BEND TRACK TECH. MAN, BOBBY WHITE. BIRTHDAY WAS TODAY SEPTEMBER 25TH.
Last night races go bad for two Late Model drivers, #31 Josh Byrns and #28 Steve Ashley. I didn't see this happen so I will not comment. However you the reader can give your opinion, just remember keep it clean or it will deleted.
This picture is a winning moment for Driver Joe Ray #7 of Portland, TN. Joe is to the right of the feature winner sign and his son Bubba is next to Joe. Joe's wife, Gail Ray is on the left side of the sign. Plus flagman Stevie Kinser. Look to the left and tell me who the little girl walking onto the track is? This picture was taken by me on May 8, 1986. YES, YOU HAVE GUESSED CORRECTLY. THE LITTLE GIRL IS CHERYL GRIDER, SISTER OF SPORTSMAN DRIVER BILLY GRIDER #30
Congratulations to Wayne Green, Jr. in the #6 Chevy. Wayne picks up his first and only win in the figure-8. Wayne has lead races and finished second in the figure-8 but this night it finally paid off with a win. Good job Wayne!
This picture was taken at Beech Bend Raceway on August 5, 1988. Driver of the #28 Damon Long shown here with winning flag. Also check out that young flagman, Aubrey Turner!
This is Terry "Tubby" Gravel #2 and this picture was taken Oct. 2, 1988 at Beech Bend Raceway as Tubby took the win.
This picture was taken by former Beech Bend Raceway track photographer Odell Turner on Friday, Oct. 2, 1988. Pictured left to right were, Driver John Key #00, the late Wayne "Tiny" Reece and car owner Kenny Lay. John was a Figure-8 driver. Look for more old Beech Bend pictures from now all through the winter months.
The best race of the night, no I should say the best race of the season. Years ago there was a racer that came out of Tennessee carrying the number 55 and was loved by a few but hated by others. Why? Because he won a lot of races and drove how ever he had too for the win. He was nicknamed the KING. Yes, James "THE KING" Climer. Well, the old saying goes, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, is right. James might get mad at me if he reads this but I will say it anyway, move over KING, there is a new KING in town. Last week I ran a poll which ask, will anyone beat Bo Miller with three races left? And more of you said no one could beat Bo Miller and his #38 machine. Tommy Climer comes in here out of Tennessee and proved that Bo can be beat at Beech Bend Raceway. Bo Miller is one of the best drivers to ever pull onto the flat track of Beech Bend Raceway and you can't take that away from him. And with this lost it doesn't say anything bad about Bo. On the other hand, Tommy didn't have the fastest car on the track. Tommy was all up on the wheel. He drove his race and refused to let Bo get in his head. Tommy held his line and would not be moved. One of the most impressive drives that I have had the chance to witness. Bo got into Tommy a couple of times and Tommy never backed out. One other thing, did you hear the fans in the stands? They cheered and clapped for Tommy like he was really the KING. Oh well, at least Tommy showed that you can live life as you dream and at least be KING for a night. I also think Tommy was very much a gentleman as he gave God thanks first and foremost for his safe race and win. Tommy welcome back to Beech Bend Raceway you showed class.
Tommy Climer #05 wins the late model race. Bo Miller #38 takes second with Josh Byrns #31 finishing third. Good Job, Tommy!
Another first time winner this year. Long time over due for winner of the sportsman class, Robert Cohron #46. Also pictured here is his son (Chase) I think that is his name. Anyway a very proud kid. It is good to see a family having fun racing. Robert has his Dad and Mom at the races each week and his wife also. Good Job Robert and the whole Cohron Family!
